Does Restorative Justice Work? Pam and Elli’s Story

Would you come face-to-face with the man who burgled you and your granddaughter? Pam and Elli did.
When a man broke into Pam and her husband’s home, she stopped feeling safe in her own home. But it her granddaughter Elli - who first discovered they’d been burgled - who wanted to meet the person who did it.
Elli had been terrified that the man in the house could hurt her grandparents and she wanted to tell him how angry she was and show the full impact of his actions. Restorative Justice gave them the chance, as victims of crime, to meet their offender.
It was a chance to ask questions to the only person who has the answers. And it ended up helping both the family and Craig, the offender. Elli’s confidence has been restored and Craig still carries the card Elli wrote him.
