I never understood why, whenever I'd ask dad about his life during ww2 he'd always reply, I don't want to talk about it.Only once when I was in my early 20's. Did open up about it. One day while having a few Whiskeys with him at home I asked him. He said he saw children being bayoneted onto fires, people lined up and machine gunned, people hanging in the streets. Also neighbours fighting neighbours, complete anarchy. I then understood why he never wanted to re-live those memories.
I wonder if some of the people your father saw being murdered and bayoneted were also by Ukrainians who were “helping” the Germans massacre innocent men women and children.
