I hope these videos stay up forever. When I was young I stumbled upon a Dick Smith book that changed my life. I hope that ten year olds stumble across these videos for years to come.
I don't even know how many videos I watched to finally find THIS. In my country rubber cement and other products like that are not even available, I was about to giving up. THANK YOU ❤
This was the most informative diy monster painting video I've ever seen. I normally go the rubber cement base route. But I'm going to try your method. I can't wait to try it out!
Legend. Dude I was looking for this answer everywhere, thank you so much. I just finally got into airbrushing and have been struggling to get more than one use out of the little ones.
@@DistortionsUnlimited i learn alot from watching your Channel. I live in Indonesia. I'm a Mask maker since 2017. Not much of a Latex Mask Maker here. Because sometimes its hard to find the stuff to make a latex mask. For years I watching your Channel and learn A lot. Its really a fun job. Even if my Neighbor thinks im Nuts. With all the Scary mask I made and Sell in my home. My mask freightened their children. You and jordu are my inspiration.
I just started getting most of the stuff that you put in the description and made my first mask! Now I am waiting for the pottery stuff to case the mold! Thank you for explaining so nicely and easy for someone who wants to start!
It took me a moment to understand the purpose of rub-out. However, once I did get it, I realized it was the same as drybrushing. I paint my weird with black, first. Then, I drybrush my flesh color, which gives me the shadows, and detailing. I don't make large items, for the most part, so it's the technique that works for me. However, this video (like all of your videos) was highly informative, and incredibly entertaining. Thank you for what you do.
Question? Are FW paints acrylic? I understand about using interior house latex paints for base so it can stretch and not Crack. I thought acrylic cracked on latex? 🤔
Hey! Thanks for the video it really helped! Got a question to ask, did you say the rub out paint is the same one used for making like clown makeup for a prop or something. Like you know a tongue, lips, etc. Or is it a different formula?
I know this video is a few years old. Tho I am still going to ask and hopefully I get a response. In the video you mention FW Ink antler Brown. I have looked several places and cannot locat Antler Brown. I have located antelope brown. Are they the same or close enough for the ink rub out. That you for the great and insightful videos. I do greatly appreciate your wealth of knowledge and years of experience. Thank you
Me n my homie had to do a lot a mixing to get the color i wanted to paint my oderus mask i had got i didn't like.the color it was so had to repaint it n i love these vids so helpful when ur diy mask n all that ur vids help out a lot thank u 🤘🤘🤘😈😈😈
Hi Ed, I made that three part paint for my Batman 89 latex armor. I really like the result of it when I tested it on a latex piece. The shine of it is perfect, it looks like foam latex just like the movie. However, it tend to loose his shine when I pass my fingers on. Should I reduce latex in the recipe ? Should I seal my painted latex after ? If yes, what would you suggest ? Thank you very much !
Love your tutorials! Thank you for sharing all your information. I was wondering about the dried dripping blood you had on your zombie podium. Didn’t see it listed at the ghost ride productions and wondered if you could share what you know about where we could get it or make it. Thanks again!
Here is one of awesome things as usual...! Awesome tuto Ed, thanks so much.. :-) By the way let me ask this, can we do same things for silicone masks? I mean, mixing transparent silicone with enamel or acrylic paints ? thanks...
Hey Ed. Thanks for the vids. Big fan. I have been using pros aide and would like to switch to this method. Are you using just tap water or does it need to be distilled?
Hello and thank you for this video! I'm an amateur trying to paint a thinner, skin tight silicone mask from Spirit Halloween. I need to make it solid black and grey with no shading, would the base coat be safe to breathe around for long periods of time once dry? Thanks so much!
Whats some good latex to get to mix with house paint for a latex mask? Im trying to make my own rehaul on a tots 2018 michael myers mask. Im painting with a brush.
He Ed I know it’s kinda late post to this video but I went and got interior house paint from my local store and 100% acrylic but on the front it has interior paint+ primer? Is that ok or do I need to find something else? Thanks
Hello, no the rub out is just one way to give a prop or mask detail. There are other techniques and methods as well so depending on the look you want you have choices.
Damping the bristles first helps. If it clumps up stop and change brush or pick them out with a pin before re starting, If you don't they will just cause the paint you just put on to stick to them and clump up worse - also let it dry between coats. Cheap disposable chip brushes will work to get on your base layers and dry brushing. Latex kills brushes so don't spend too much if you intend to use them with this paint. (hope this helps)
Here's what you do. First rub the brush in your palm to get all the loose bristles out. Then soak the bristles in 50/50 dawn dish soap and water for 5 minutes. Make sure you get a good soak. Wipe off the brush thoroughly on the brim of the container and then pat well with a damp paper towel. The goal is to dry but keep the soap in the bristles just enough for when you rinse. Let it air dry completely. When you paint your base wipe off the latex and run under a slop sink or slop bucket. Then repeat the process until the bristles are all gummed up. I've done 18 masks on one brush with this method. Good luck!

@@DistortionsUnlimited do you know we’re to get the latex ?
Would you ever do a Monster Lab on mixing and using polyfoam? I love this series!
Yes we are planing on it.
We will still see this question everyday in Latex Mask Central lol
I REALLY want to see armature making with Mike Glover! What it takes, the in and outs of metal and welding for the big props and so on! 🧟
Wow this is amazing
Really Cool!
Wait, was this a part of the longer video? If so, I'm so happy you guys took the time to trim it out of it and gave it it's own video.
Yes it is!!! However we knew if you weren't interested in making hands you would miss it.

Hi, nice video, would acrylic paint work as good?
Hi Ed,
I made that three part paint for my Batman 89 latex armor.

Silicon is much more complicated!!! I've done it a little, but I am definitely not the guy for silicon!!!
link to the "quartz" airbrush gun ? please
Really hope I get a reply but I'm just new to painting latex mask, is it okay to use acrylic paint the one where artists/painters uses?
What sort of mix do you recommend if we are stuck working with the Halloween store latex?
Cool, I have a question: for eyebrows, Would I use the Liquitex gloss Medium? and how would you color it?
Question, how do clean the spray gun out after u use it ? Mine always gets gunked up at some point
If you keep up with it water is fine.
What is the best glue for latex ?
Hey can i still use poster paint to paint a mask?
Hey Ed. Thanks for the vids. Big fan. I have been using pros aide and would like to switch to this method. Are you using just tap water or does it need to be distilled?
We just use tap water!
You got any tips on my Mitzi mask? i ordered some paint off of monster makers and are there any tips do I put water in it?

Could you pour up a mask using this mixture?
I wish I could work with you i do FXs to
This helped for my Michael Myers mask. But I don't have liquid latex. Could I use Elmer's glue instead?
We just work with latex and have never used Elmer's glue for it...
Were can I get laytex
Where do you get your latex
Where do you get your latex from?

what sheen would you suggest for the house paint? Gloss, flat, semi gloss, eggshell?
I use matte when mix, the gloss is hard to drybrush over
What's the brand name of the latex paint that you use to make the mask base?
I have a rubber latex mask and it’s a little too floppy. What can I use to stiffen it a little?
Is the rub out necessary
Hello, no the rub out is just one way to give a prop or mask detail. There are other techniques and methods as well so depending on the look you want you have choices.
Can this work in dry rotting animatronics example chin up zombie from spirit Halloween
What brush can you use to apply latex paint? I tried yesterday and it almost immediately dried in the bristles.
If you brush paint with latex, I don’t think you can wash it out.
I've done 18 masks on one brush with this method. Good luck!
I just coat my brush with liquid dish soap, squeeze out excess with my hands and boom no more sticky bristles or bogies in the paint
how can I strengthen and make thicker a thin latex mask
Mix more latex into the paint. I do that to all thin pulls
what is rub out?
Its a paint technique. We go more in depth on other Monster Lab tutorial videos.
Is this Steve Carell in disguise?
wanted to like the vid but it was on 666
You should make a video on how to make an animatronic like programming the motors and how they work and what parts you need to make one.
We will!
