      Exactly! The bottom is usually much wider and most of the time needs a trench dug through it so water can drain more. Keni is pretty good at doing this once the water recedes enough for him to get to it.@rustyiron

    From what I have observed the dams aren't being removed! Just a channel is cut in the middle. So it doesn't take much to rebuild the cut. The dam ends are a real convenience for the beavers... you'll always have work by doing it this way!

  • @xrayron1
    @xrayron1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try going on the up side of the dam. It is easier to take apart as the dam is made to hold the weight of water on the down stream side.

Always think the safe way to do things we would rather you just take it down like you did and go home to the Mažė and Mama. There are other opportunities, and you did not risk denying the Mažė her Teti.

    As the water level comes up on the down stream side of the dam, then even though it's flowing, it still has weight, so it helps support the base of the dam.

  • @jackx4311
    @jackx4311 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What happened? You left a very narrow gap in the dam - and they had no trouble closing it.

  • @module79l28
    @module79l28 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The piles of dam leftovers are getting bigger and bigger, if the beavers keep rebuilding the dams that quickly, soon you'll have no more space on the banks to put more sticks. 😄
    Someone should go there with an excavator and open that passage from bank to bank, that narrow passage makes it too easy for the beavers to rebuild the dam.

    I enjoy watching the beaver dams collapse, I'm sure it's hard work. I was wondering if there is two dams close together what would happen if you weaken the downstream one then collapse the upstream one. The rush of water should collapse the downstream one. Would make a great video. We don't have beaver in Australia, so I really like your videos.

      Talk with the local ministry of natural resources in your area. These little buggers can be trapped and shipped if you want them. The ones you find in Europe are pretty much the same as the ones you find here in Canada and the U.S. But take heed, their pelts make great coats, mitts and hats, but your lack of winter weather makes that unfashionable.

    I know that you enjoy it. But for me it's even more fun to just dig a tunnel where you started, about 1- 1 1/2 meters long into the bank of dirt. Set a 20 liter sealed plastic bucket of tannerite at the back of the tunnel. Have a good friend shoot it from 100 meters with a.308 or a 7mm Magnum, or whatever heavier long rifle that is in your country! The bigger the hole the longer it takes to repair or isn't done at all because of winter!

  • @bakerzumbersmith7341
    @bakerzumbersmith7341 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you need to use that water pressure to take out ALL of the dam not just a part of the dam. Too easy for beavers to rebuild quickly. If you remove more of the dam, then they would need to work harder to rebuild if they rebuilt at all due to the mass collapsing of the entire dam. Use that water pressure when you have it. Good luck & keep doing what you are doing it's fun to watch!!
