Lungwort, a tree lichen, sign of excellent air quality. Also, snowshoe hare. They are brown this time of year, and sized as you described. ❤️💪 You are such a strong human and an absolute inspiration to myself and others. Thank you for sharing your adventure!

The flowers at 7:18 are bunchberry which is actually a dogwood - very tiny - but it will have red berries in the fall. The tree "fungus" is indeed a lichen which is a symbiotic connection of a fungus and either an algae or a cyanobacteria - the fungus sticks to the tree and the other part is the green that performs photosynthesis to make energy for both. Because they are all slightly different combinations, the colors are not the same.

The "tree fungus" might be lichen, which can vary in color, including white and light green - it's a sign of good air conditions, so that's good!

Hi Stella! I can't believe you guys are about to enter the hundred mile wilderness! As for your journal, you can store it in a large Ziploc bag. Not sure why you didn't do that with the first one.

Always unbuckle your pack, before crossing rivers. If you fall into deep water, you'll want to be able to ditch it quickly. Two nights before exiting the 100 MW, I stopped for the night (Didn't want to attempt a sketchy crossing). Glad I did, because a bull moose visited me, the next morning. Love Monson. My buddy just sold his 100 Mile Wilderness Camp, just down from Shaw's.

So glad that you two made it through all of those water crossing. Glad that they weren't really deep. And then all of those blow downs. They need to get out their and remove them. Enjoy your evening at Monson. Then on to Katahadin 🙂🙂🙂

And when they hurt a bit...pull them down and the should fit perfectly over your shins...they were made for wieght lifters. THEY ARE FANTASTIC FOR KNEE PAIN!!!!

The rare and elusive tyrannosaurus rabbitus - an ancient and rodent-like meat-eating rabbit. Besides the changing of the footwear and clothing, those river crossings must have been cold, but fun. Supply up - once you leave Monson, there's not much out there in the way of convenience stores. Be well, stay safe.
