You know what he should do? Offer his services for free to random people and he can pick whoever you choose is. But he needs to offer for free.

I grew up with a dad who rarely showed love and was quick to lose his temper and give out. I ended growing up quiet shy and afraid to speak because of him. Conversation was never free flowing and I felt/still feel like i can't connect to him. He's very negative too, maybe he's narcisstics, I don't know. His dad is the same way. The environment you grow up in has a huge impact on how you turn out. I was shy, developed social anxiety in my teens and clinical depression. I don't think this was all chance. I had a poor support network at home, felt it hard to make friends, a dad who was negative and felt I could never open up to or be myself around.I started hypontheraphy to clear core beliefs such as im worthless and unlovable since my dad showed me not much love, or it was always conditional. I'll never make the same mistakes if I ever have children. I feel better away from my dad and so will move out on my own soon, once I save up some money to do so.

    • @kenburns4547
      @kenburns4547 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Don't believe him, he's lying. The "complex" is CONFLICT between state dogma and plain reality; and the reason for most mental illness, is cognitive dissonance over living in a "democracy"where the people don't consent to their government, thus creating a covert oligarchy that dictates narrowly-limited TOKEN choices, in the form of state-ultimatums on how the people can and can't change their government.
As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, "there are none more enslaved, than those who falsely think they're free."
But since Peterson is employed licensed and accredited by the state, he won't address that. Psychology is the SCIENCE of validating the state oligarchy by Gaslighting the individual. He is just a political puppet, who engages in Political Abuse of Psychiatry to validate its power, while maintaining the delusion of liberty and democracy under government-dictated ultimatums called "elections."

It will be a few hour cosy rumbling moment around rest time, but afterwards its just calm and you feel amazing and gain your freedom. Psilocybin is different dudes, its the only "treatment" I would recommend to someone who genuinely wants to get better. There is no addiction, withdrawal, or negative side effects. I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.

As an older man I can attest to the fact that a complicated life is often fraught with stress; and often it's not the unforeseen hardships we face but embracing cultural cancers which make life less enjoyable. Living beyond our means is a huge stress factor; often crippling debt is linked to that behavior. I think many people go through a stage of accumulating stuff they don't need at the cost of running up debt and working excessively to maintain a "lifestyle". But it doesn't matter how nice a house you have if you're never there to enjoy it. In recent years I've started steering my life toward a simpler way of living, and it's made all the difference.

I find joy in the simple things in life but could never just live a simple life. I'm just waaaaay too ambitious for that and can take on a shit load of work, and nothing makes me happier. The reason, why I'm kind of depressed these days, is that I haven't achieved valuable goals recently and are stuck in Limbo as a highly educated 35-year-old man who simply can't start at the bottom anymore and not at the top either.
I mean, to get feedback from interviewers saying that I'm overqualified is never fun to hear, yet it is the truth and I can't do anything about it. Also, the thing that bothers me the most, is that at this point in life I should have my OWN profitable business. Yet, based on my history, I don't have the experience in the right kind of fields to establish that business and it sucks because I basically have to start all over again if I truly want that.
Also, be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. I lived the simpler life once with great work/training/friend/family balance but I can never get that back.

As an emotion coach, this is also what I found to be true. Most people don't have a "disorder" that needs medication, but a complex life that feels out of control. Their life may be disordered (or the people around them) but that doesn't mean they have a disorder.
It does take a bit of work to muddle through the mess, but that's what I love doing with them!

Wow. I never thought about things this way, but he has a very good point. Peoples' brains nowadays can become completely overloaded, especially with all the CRAP going on in the world. Personally, when I get to that point, I completely shut down, because I can't even see where/how to begin to dig myself out of my out of control situation, i.e., job I despised, both parents became ill, had to fly home, parents got better, flew back, then one parent DIED, had to fly back home again, and deal with death and a funeral, plus the other traumatized parent; then flew back again, quit my job, determined I was going to MOVE home, so spent months packing and all of the stuff that goes with that; packed everything up, drove 1,000 miles home by myself. So I know it's going to take me a loooong time to decompress and come to grips with everything that's been going on over the past 6 months. Sometimes I think that just sitting and staring at a wall for a few days is preferable over having to deal with life. But I literally just take one....step....at....a....time. Suicide is NEVER the answer.

The reality is that your limit is self-imposed and you'll stop where you tell yourself to stop - and you'll go where you tell yourself to go. Society as a whole will often agree with your limited view of limits, and agree that there are just limits we can't touch. Then you have someone that says they won't be limited, and then break those limits, as well as show society that it's no longer a limit. What happens afterward? Everyone else stops being limited by what they previously thought was their limit. Admit you have a limit and be limited by it, or tell yourself that's not your limit and push the limits.

Never thought it was mental illness, is a reasonable reaction to devastation in a person's life. Completely overwhelmed, not knowing which way to turn, sinking ship. The ever present fear and loss of hope of being able to regain their former strong and familiar selves can debilitating.
Update: human resilience is amazing. It is within you too. Happened to me and lived to tell. Took a couple of years, one foot in front of the other towards the light despite setbacks. Simplify life, push aside the sound of crushed hopes & dreams and surrounding chaos. You don't hv control over it anyway, eventually it subsides.

I think that might be right. I had a distant cousin who went through a mental breakdown. Looking back he had always had OCD tendencies (washing his hands until they practically bled, having to touch a doorknob so many times before using it, etc...) but the last few years of his life he started drinking heavily, became increasing paranoid, spent all his time online reading up on conspiracy theories and becoming obsessed with them. He attempted to kill himself at least twice that I know of and presumably managed to do it in the end.
Meanwhile, he was having physical issues that one could seem to figure out, his live in girlfriend had a lifelong heart condition and other ailments that would cause her to have very bad days and he would often say that they both had bad days and they always seemed to happen at the same time and he was mentally beating himself up over not being able to take care of her.
On top of that his mother (his only parent, admittedly not a great parent as she was a bit of a drunk and could be verbally cruel) died of cancer and he had been taking care of her on his own but, as it would happen, he had run to town to pick up supplies the day she died and, to his mind, he said the ambulance people looked, to him, like they were judging him for not being around. Not to mention, she was, to the end, full of malice and always complained about everything he tried to do for her.
He had a lot of reasons to go the way he did but, sadly, until reading your post, I never really thought to connect the two. Now, I wish I had while he was alive.

I had that kind of experience when I was under stress which logically should not even be there. and when you need your body working at that top performance to overcome problems it decides to destroy itself as if you do not have enough problems already.

Actually it's easy to fix the error but if you want to trace the root cause of the error to prevent cascading or similar errors, it just takes a lot of time and effort. That's why most engineers keep code as simple and as modular as possible to make it more manageable. If only life was as structured and as easy to understand and manage.

My mother likes the attention of constantly having problems, and it took me many years to figure out I was wasting my time listening to her and devising solutions for her when she just wanted the attention, not to actually solve the problem. She would just get angrier because I was solving the problem which meant she wasn't getting attention for it. My advice to young people is to not waste your precious youth on that nonsense. Spend time with productive people.

As someone who has 'been there done that' I know that you are spot on with your thinking. A popular song when I was going through a suicidal depression was Roy Clark's "Right of Left at Oak Street" in which a man comes to an intersection he encounters every day on his way to work. In the song he has stopped at that intersection and asks himself if he should right like he always does and go to work, or should he turn left and keep going to escape it all. To me the left turn was a metaphore for suicide.

Then, within a two week period, I had a relationship fall apart from the other person cheating with numerous people, I read all of the texts, had a panic attack that night and didnt know what it was. A week later, my job managing a major craft store, that sought me out to work for them, just up and let me go one day, with no clue it was coming and no reason givin. I left the building in tears, got in my car , called my mom to tell her, and dont ask me why, but after I explain I have been fired, she decided to tell me " well, I haven't been completely honest with you for a couple years now...." and decided this was the time to tell me she has a serious health problem! I lost it. I screamed at her, threw my phone across the car, and wanted to drive into a brick wall.
A week later, my 18 years old cat I'd hate since she was born in my apt, passed on.
These 4 things, combined , have made me a mess for the last 5 years. I had systptoms happen to me that scared the heck out of me, so I went to get help. My vision was going blurry, couldnt swallow, ringing in my ears, numbness in my hands and arms, it was horrible. Now ,I'm on meds to help me get through these spells.

This hasn't been the case with me at all. Of course, as I became increasingly unable to navigate the complexities of life, it did exacerbate my depression and anxiety. However i feel like the root problem is a lack of sense of purpose and connectedness and an inability to extract a feeling of gratification or gratitude from anything. I hear what you are saying, I have gone through that point in my life as well, but I also think it does relate to what is being discussed in this video because I think finding a central purpose is something that can help people to simplify their lives.
After going through a burn out period I shifted my focus into creating a more permanent living situation and a developing a more engaging creative process. This in turn led me to drop a lot if superfluous things in my life that had previously been taking attention.
I've researched a lot of religions, meditation, and self-help practices, and although they all offer tools to help mitigate the suffering in our lives, I agree with the idea that ultimately as humans we are limited beings, and many issues in our lives really come down to limitations in our ability to make good decisions in complicated situations. So I think the more we can simplify our lives, the better chance we have of making good decisions.
Also in response to the chicken or the egg when it comes to depression, I would suggest practicing meditation. What certain practices help you achieve is the ability to disengage the emotional sensations of your mind from the motivational processes that result in physical actions.
A simple way I like to think of it is, like driving a car without being aware that our feet are constantly pressing the pedal. So we are in a constant state of driving because we don't want to hit anything on the road. Meditation is like putting the car in neutral, so that even though our thoughts may still be running, it has disengaged the process from motivating your actions.
Once in that neutral state you no longer are worried about driving and it frees your mind now to observe other things and practice other forms of thought because you are no longer obligated to focus on the road.

Emotions are the bodies way of deciphering thousands of subconscious thoughts and sensory input data...
The lack of purpose comes because a stop in our growth. We stop growing and experiencing things in relation to our morals and desires. This feeling Can even come about from an unhealthy body.... If you would sit down and ask yourself why, and retrospectively link cause and effect... from this you will learn that everything in life is ordered exactly as it should be.. and that as a living creature our only purpose is to live and experience this world... as an individual your desires and morals differ from others. You will never find purpose or joy looking outwards... only when you look inwards and learn to understand yourself can you achieve this.
      Understand no one is special..
The need to be special brings feelings of inferiority... about ourselves or others....when In reality happiness is an inside job, and is only a reflection of our unfocused or uncontent thoughts...no one is any more special than any one else. We are creatures of nature and thats its. And feelings of uncontentness or unhappiness are massive motivators for change... they are there to help you grow.
Focus on what you want to experience, or have ever found interesting. And take actions toward shifting your perceptions into a new reality. And make life happen because of you. Instead of just happening to you. And you will find the peace you desire.

@@Respectations The peace that surpasses all understanding is in reference to that which is beyond thought. It beings with our willingness in thought that first turns us towards God, but it is our utter and complete abandonment to the Will of God that leads to the silence of the mind. For what does a mind who trust absolutely in God have to think, to plan, to do? It is this cessation of thought that is the infinite and indescribable, non-verbal peace and boundless joy, that thought knows nothing of. Indeed, because we identify ourselves with a steam of thoughts, and believe that is what we are, that it is said by God "I am where you are not". Where thought is not, God is. Where we are not, Love is.
This is what Jesus spoke of - the peace of God - and he gave himself so we may be led to him, to Truth. This thought-free bliss and unconditional love is what sages such as Ramana Maharishi and Nisargadatta Maharaj point to, who have realized the eternal nature of ourselves and our true identities not as thought, but as one and the same with God's being.

if someone not belive in afterlife than whats the point of living why are you bearing the suffering easy way is to die so you wont exist anymore the end of suffering, so suicide obviously not a good idea people die on their oppointed time thats again a sign of existing of Almighty God he gave time so you can search the straight path, so you can search him, but today human beign is busy with money alot of money earning money is not bad but again you have millions you die millions turn into nothing you left with what you have done with your life, which actually have a consequence on permenent life, so please dont ruin your permanent life.

@Michael Hayes @Michael Hayes I assume you're an atheist who's into marxism eh?
If you automatically assume the worst of this great man, I don't know what to tell you. You've been bought and sold by propaganda, and you probably think you're not.
Let's run through each of your outlandish claims.
      1. "he didn't accept his schizophrenia diagnosis" (citation needed)
      2. He wasn't a drug addict. That is the most uncharitable perspective of the hell he went through for over a year. He was PRESCRIBED by his doctor that HE TRUSTED, and did not take extra. Like I said, we wouldn't have people on every corner in LA shooting up if doctors were handling the opioid crisis properly. It's not even that he "got hooked", if you ever listened to his story (probably not), you would know he suffered several complications one after another because of other auto-immune drugs he needed for a different disease. His daughter has very similar auto-immune issues. He trusted his doctor and the drugs he was "prescribed" failed him because, guess what, life is hard, and humans make errors. go figure.
      3. "blamed the medical science in general" Everything you said in this response just screams that you don't think opioids are a huge problem. It's almost like you just don't know. It's like you think every doctor that prescribes an opioid does it perfectly, and almost every person who uses it is a junkie. Truth is, some people actually need opioids to manage severe pain, and at the same time it's being overprescribed, or misprescribed often. Feel free to prove me wrong, but Jordan probably thinks opioids are by far the most overprescribed med, and most doctors can actually get the med right for people that need a less physically taxing or dependent med.
      4. His room is probably cleaner than yours.
      5. Carry his cross? Now you're just reaching for religious jabs.
      6. His posture is fine, what are you on?
      7. He's not suicidal anymore. But if you experience the hell he went through, you probably would be suicidal at that time too.
      8. If you haven't seen him lately, he's in his prime. He seems a bit more humble and more willing to "give the devil his due" when conversing with people on his podcast.

The reason for all mental illness is that we pay too much attention to our own mental processes rather than to all of the things around us through the senses. We can come out of this by changing the position of our eyes and taking our attention away from the thinking elements of the brain. These processes will still continue to work much like the liver and kidneys work and anything of value from them will come down into the main system. The eyes floats in the center of it all between the thinking processes and what we are seeing through the senses. You can find stillness there and everything will report to the eyes.

Of all the schools of thought that I have read into, Buddhist thought seems a good one, at least for me. This entire material realm is illusory, transitory, and empty of any real and lasting value. Everything we see around us is man made and impermanent. Sure we should have nice things but not become attached to them as they end in disappointment. Do not become the mouse that runs all day in the wheel to get the pellet of food only to become exhausted and still without the pellet. The weak point of our biology will not then be taxed to the point of breakdown. There will be no pressure.
