Great video, thanks for posting. Brings tears to my eyes evoking all the great memories I have. Mr King was the very first head teacher at Glenburm. Mrs Fallon was the cook for the 1st year pupils. Been a lover of Manchester Tart since my days at Glenburn.
@@alsonberg Aww that is so nice, I'm glad you liked the video and have such lovely memories. It's funny the things we remember from our past, that can shape our future. Del 👍
Thanks, sad goodbye to Glenburn gave me a tear that. I attended 1967 to 1971 I was one of the last Easter leaves, have a good few memories, laffs and giggles of Point 6 too.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, it did the same to me. Having shot the video for almost 2 months and then put it altogether. I left in 1985, didn't have the best of times but some good memories. Just a shame its now all gone, just so glad I managed to capture it before it went. 👍
It is so sad, I was in the first year at Skelmersdale Secondary Modern School, we where the first class at Glenburn, everything was brand new, 1965/66, I enjoyed my time there, was in the well know award winning Choir, left in 1970, great memories.
Hi Paul, yes it was a very sad ending. Thankfully I managed to capture it before it was completely demolished. It's been great for a lot of people like yourself to see. It has evoked a lot of emotions, but also brought back some fond memories. I'm glad you liked the video, and great to hear your back story. Thanks for watching. Del👍
I was also amongst the 1st year pupils from Skelmersdale Secondary Modern who were sent up there...Fantastic days, never to be repeated. Does anyone remember the long winding footpath, fenced on both sides, from the school to Wigan road?
Oh the loves of some of them memories that we don't talk about I can just close my eye's and there there, so I'm just glad you had the idea to make this and now the history lives on many thanks again.
Aww thank you, and your very welcome. That was my aim with all the videos I create. To preserve the past history around us, so future generations can get to see what was there.
It's quite sad getting old, when you see construction of the school and also the demolition. I never thought that I would outlast some of the buildings of "Skelmersdale New Town".
Aww it certainly is Chris, I enjoyed creating the video which took almost 2 months to shoot. I was hard for me to believe that I attended there from 1980 to 1985. Hope you enjoyed the video. Del 👍
Hi there, I know I’m a bit late but I was searching for videos of Skem, and this popped up… It is rather sad seeing the old college getting demolished. My father went there in the late 80s, so i have some knowledge of what it was like in its heyday. There were reports that a train station would be built where Glenburn was… Again, thanks for making this!
@@mackyjohnson5516 You are very welcome, it seems such a long time ago now since I made this. It was a labour of love, especially as we were all going through COVID at the time. It took around a month and a half to collect the footage, then edit it down. I was there between 1980-85. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, it stirred up a lot of memories for a lot of different people. Just glad I was able to capture it before it was lost for all time. Sadly I think we will end up with houses on the site rather than a much needed train station. Take care, Del. 👍
Aww it is so sad, and hard to believe I left in 1985. I was just glad I was able to capture it before it went. It has opened up a lot of fond memories for people, since I posted the video. I'm glad you enjoyed watching it. Del👍
Thanks for all your hard work. Surprising how much can be achieved in the lead up to an election!!! Such a pity that we can all guess what comes next, houses, houses and more houses. When you look at how many they have put on much smaller plots of land, just think how many they could get on that site!!! Oh how much I would like them to prove me wrong, BUT...........
Even though I didn't go to school here, I feel the sadness. All the memories that must have been made there. Both my own primary and secondary schools have gone... Very sad.
It is indeed, it certainly stirred up a lot of memories for people when I put this video up. I left there in 1985, it was very emotional videoing it for a month and a half during demolition, and then watching it back. I'm glad you liked the video. Del👍
I love this babe. You've done an amazing job and worked hard on it over these past couple of months. I know how emotional its been too with it being your old school. It's fantastic seeing you do something you enjoy. Can't wait for future ones ♥️♥️
Great video once again bro, sad to see it go, it's almost inevitable what the site will be used for - more housing, we need other essential buildings first, as mentioned in other posts.
When we moved to Skelm I sent my three daughters there, Glenburn and West Bank were the main schools in Skelmersdale. Sad to see a towns memories torn down. There was no reason for these schools to close, so the council better have a good plan in place for the site! I'm sick of seing Skelm's amenities and buildings been torn down for bloody housing when the infrastructure is not there to support the growng population. Sick of this bloody council.

The school took its name from Glenburn Colliery. The pupils (SSM) designed the school badge based around the rose of lancashire.
