- Hi, my name is Stacy and it is my first video! On this channel I'm going to post different Russian songs with Russian and English text as well as some notes to understand the meaning of the text. I hope you find this video helpful. Please share this video with other Russian learners or fans of Russian music. I will be making new videos soon!
I'm learning Russian because despite all the negativity that is placed on Russia, i love the country. When I hear the music and read the lyrics it inspires me to get through everyday no matter what.
Me too.
Same bro, i get a lot of criticism but i do it because i want to
@@Martianwojack47 I'm learning Russian too, people really give you criticism for it?
@@DanielRowlands1 yea, i think it’s because Russians have always been depicted as the bad guys in the media. I’m Spanish American, bilingual. I Just wanted a third language and a chance to explore a new culture.
@@Martianwojack47 Fuck them man, they're closed-minded. It's admirable to expand your mind beyond your own culture. Plus, some of the greatest thinkers and writers to ever exist were Russian.
As a russian joke goes: in USSR there was no punk, it was post punk straight away.
So good to see you guys dig into our culture, as Tsoi really means a lot to 80-90 generation, me not being a fan, but some secret string of a soul are pulled each time i hear this song.
You might wanna check out film Leto (Summer) about him and Mike Naumenko and all that rock underground of the soviet 80s.
Peace!
im sad to correct you but there was very good punk music. for example sektor gaza. it was even too left for the gov. most band members died in misterious ways. may they rest in peace and may lenin come back
Russian music brings a certain feeling of dread even though I don't understand the lyrics at all
PostPunk will forever be my favourite genre
@@Terence.McKenna to me it brings the emotion of nostalgia, hope and hopelessness at the same time, its like accepting your hopeless situation and then getting some hope looking at the stars with a cigarette, it kinda sounds like trying to find your life purpose
@@Terence.McKennaНе надо бояться 😊 лучше посмотрите фильм Кин дза дза - пророчество на Россию 1990-2000
Pachka Sigaret is probably my favourite song from Kino. Even my friends who hate my Russian music always ask me to play this one. They can feel it.
Name song Pack of ciggarett. Hello from far cold Russia
2025 и все еще слушаю этот шедевр. Здорово из Греции!
Don't really understand Russian but I fell for this band long ago and that song made me feel the exact same way that I see now on the translation
Thanks a lot for giving a more close up view to this piece of art.
sometimes the music transcends the lyrics
I bet i'm responsible for at least 75% of the Canadian views on this video, I absolutely love the song
Same lol. I listen to this constantly 🚬
R.I.P. Viktor Tsoi o7
Your not the only one~

You're not alone here
I started learning Russian just bc of them, im so in love with this band
How its going? You keept learning it?
I'm Japanese and this is one of my favorite Russian songs
Love this jam Russian is a beautiful language
My mom would listen to Kino quite often when I lived with her. Kino is amazing and his songs are even better if you understand the lyrics.
Just a little bit of more explanation of the line "а без музыки и на миру смерть не красна". You did a great job explaining the last part of the sentence with the adjective "red"/"красна" used in the meaning "beautiful", but there is also another word which is used not in the regular meaning - "мир"/"на миру". Though it usually means "a world", here it means "a community" or "a society", and in this combination - "на миру", it means "in public". The whole sentence refers to the old proverb "На миру и смерть красна", which you can translate like "it is easier to die in public/together". So, in my opinion, you can translate the whole sentence "а без музыки и на миру смерть не красна" like "but without music public death is no fun".
edit: misspelling
Hey since you're editing in English we say "in public", not "on public". Thanks for the insight!
@@andrewdunbar828 Thanks! I have fixed this. As usual, I just did a direct translation from Russian, which is always not the proper one. :)
Im ngl dude this is amazing i wish i could understand russian on am advanced level just bc i wanna be able to pick up on small wordplays and things like this yk that you cant get using a translator
This song reminds me of songs that my grandpa showed me from Mexico
Please let us know what those are, that sounds really cool.
Such a sad and at the same time comfy Picture
Tsoi is the man
It’s so strange to describe. People who lived in Eastern Europe mostly think sad of the picture, but at the same time it’s home
Love this song, your songs are amazing RUSSIA, love from Italy
Man I love the songs of kino they’re all awesome! From a 🇬🇧 guy
here from bandsplaining, thank you
I found kino from that video too. I've been really into them
here from recommendation page. Every song of theirs is wonderful. Tsoi lives
Thanks for the send. Even if i speak well russian, i have never been experienced in the artsy side of the language, and just like with Latvians there's a lot to unpack.
Same bro
I love Kino and appreciate that you took the time to translate it for the rest of us who don't speak Russian.
if you have a pack of cigarette in your pocket , everything is not that bad for today
I’m a political science student, I know this band from my Russian's policy teacher, I fell in love with Slavic languages and it’s depressing vibes that surrounds it’s people, then the Russo-Ukrainian war started, I have to dig deep into the political shit, learning theory about political maneuvering in this war, when I listen to this band after the war, it makes me feel guilty as hell, I become just a spectator of this war learning soulless political facts when people are dying, it’s almost feel like I’ve lost contact with humanity and it’s suffering, thanks to Victor Tsoi for making me remains intact with humanity. Political, War, nothing is real but suffering, sometimes facts is utterly bullshit and the truth lies still, crying and in pain in one’s heart. Peace to us all.
Viktor was anti-war he warned people in his songs but they don't care, peace out
@@kaanmeister we don't know what Viktor Tsoi was. Because he got killed in a car crash in Latvia in 1990... All the bloody conflicts that started with the collapse of the Soviet Union - he never saw them and never had a chance to share his opinion.
Zelenskiy defeated Poroshenko in the 2018 elections with 75% support from Ukrainians, promising to restore peace in the Donbas by any means and restore good relations with Russia, his main economic partner. At the time of the election, more than 50% of Ukrainians were in favor of restoring good relations with Russia. In many cities of Ukraine, Ukrainians supported the Russian national football team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. And now, after 3 months, the policy of Zelensky, who has been on visits to many Western countries, is changing dramatically. And everyone's favorite humorist Zelensky gradually turns into Porosheko over the course of the year. Why ? Because both Poroshenko and Zelensky are most worried about their offshore accounts and are afraid of nationalists. Zelensky officially bans the Russian language throughout Ukraine, and control and penal services have been created that allow fines, including ordinary sellers and doctors who speak Russian. With the consent of the ambassadors of Western countries, he closed 3 TV channels that traditionally promote peace and restore relations with Russia. And now Zelensky has brought disaster to the whole of Ukraine. For 8 years now, Russia has been demanding the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which provided for the return of Donbass to Ukarina on the terms of amending the constitution with the federal status of Donbass and the possibility of electing a government, police and preserving the original Russian language. schools and the opportunity to communicate in Russian everywhere.
In 2014, the Ukrainian army killed 14,000 civilians in the Donbass, but in the end suffered a complete defeat. This is a huge figure for a region of 3 million people. For understanding, if you scale to the USA, then this is 1 million 400 thousand victims, including 25 thousand children. Russia in 2104 could easily conquer Ukraine in a matter of days, but did not. It was Russia that forced the leaders of Donbass (I repeat the leaders of Donbass, not Ukraine) to sit down with Poroshenko and sign the Minsk agreements, which many in Russia considered treacherous. Even then, Donbass demanded that Russia recognize its independence. But Russia then did not take this step and gave Ukarina a chance. For eight years, Poroshenko and Zelensky shied away from implementing the Minsk agreements. And already this year, Zelensky and members of his government openly admitted that they were not going to fulfill these agreements, calling them a noose around the neck of Ukraine. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine on open air called Donbass a cancerous tumor on the body of Ukraine. In January, under pressure from the United States and Britain, Zelensky escalated and moved troops to the line of demarcation with Donbass, as well as multiple launch rocket systems and large-caliber artillery (which is expressly prohibited by the Minsk agreements). Russia also pulled its troops to the Ukrainian border. Biden, Boris, and the Western media raised the cry for a Russian invasion precisely on the basis of what had been scripted ahead of time for Zelensky. Zelensky had to initiate an escalation of the conflict, at first he avoided it, then he was forced and the Ukrainian army began intensive shelling of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics. Residents of Donbass found themselves again in 2014, when there were numerous casualties among the civilian population. It was the Ukrainian army, stuffed with Western weapons and instigated by the West, that unleashed the conflict. Of course, Russia was forced to react. And Russia responded. From the very beginning, the United States and Great Britain aspired to this scenario in order to accuse Russia of aggression and the imposition of sanctions. At the same time, what will happen to Ukraine does not concern them. The enemy has taken place, now USA and GB and unite the collective West and tear Europe away from Russia. One of the next steps is liquefied American gas to Europe.
@@Maid-en-Head literally he had an ani-war song on soviet Afghan war dude
The song name "Gruppa krovi" a whole anti war song dedicated for that
@@fallaciousfirm2524 never considered Gruppa krovi as an anti-war song. Strictly speaking, where is "war" in it? "Wish me luck in the battle, wish me not to stay lying in this grass" ...?
Shout out to Maris, my good friend from Latvia 🇱🇻, who first introduced me to Kino through this song. All those years ago. Thank you my friend. I miss you dearly. Here is one forever and always until we meet again. 🚬
Thanks for this Song. Peace and hope for all.❤
Quite a fascinating piece! I'm just learning about the Soviet-era underground and punk music scene, and I can definitely see why this song was/is a hit- the lyrics are simple, elegant, and profoundly "feelable", even through a layer of translation.
Idioms, expressions and puns are some of the hardest things to translate between languages- they often simply don't work at all, and can only be extrapolated or expressed by example. You did a great job getting both the feeling and the meaning across (to my ignorant ears, that's for sure!) so thank you for that!!
А без музыки на миру смерть не красна
А без музыки не хочется проподать.
Surprisingly I am the weird one who came across this song. I am a Malaysia chinese. I being inspired by the music performed by the orchestra group named Cinema, I think. From there I thought of finding out what's or how the original version going to be liked and ended here. The powerful of music is beyond the understanding of the particular language. And is quite sorry to know that the main person of this rock band has passed away by car accident long time ago. From the tune and the music I got such feeling of Tsoi is an anti-war person, who well earned my so much.
This was one of my favorite songs before ever knowing the meaning of the lyrics! Now I appreciate it even more! Thank you
Listening from Venezuela 🇻🇪
Thanks for uploading ! Im getting more and more interested in Tsoi's music, but I'm italian and I do not understand a word of what he says. Thank you !!
i'd say for 'starting' with music of Kino you should listen to the album "Ночь". then newer ones, older ones...

No matter what governments say, I love Russia, its culture and its language. West has been very unfair to Russia since ever, and what we are living today will make the gap among us even bigger, that's sad. Screw the governments, politics and economical interests, we the people shall understand each other and appreciate our cultures. Greetings from Spain 🇪🇸
God bless you! From a British lady who feels
The same ;)
People who think for themselves, read books about history, and do not allow themselves to be brainwashed by corrupt western media feel the same. I m behind Russia! Greetings from Netherlands
@@KovietUnionDefectoranother brit who loves old Soviet music? 😮
The West isn't unfair to the Russian people, they are completely fair to the corrupt, war-mongering government. Those greedy bastards, and Putin just want total control over the people, the nation, everything. He is a deranged sick man, and anyone who says otherwise is either misinformed, or is an idiot.
Mancunian brit aged 23 here, always admired the Russian people since I was a child and I saw St. Basil's Cathedral in school for the first time. It kicked off a lifelong obsession with Russia, its culture, history and people. I'm currently learning how to speak the language with the hopes I can move there one day.
Not all westerners hate Russia, in fact quite a lot of us admire you very much😌

Thank you Stacy! Your work is very appreciated!!
Got a music MOD with some tracks of KINO for Project Zomboid.
That brought me here. 😆
Thank you so much. Long Live Tsoi
Long live Tsoi, Georgi, Yegor Letov, Yanka, Sektor Gaza and everybody else, I love Russia, would love to go on vacation when the peace comes back, btw I'm a politics scholar from Belgium with Moroccan roots, listening to Russian music istead of of Raï, for a lot of people these guys were some kind of sense of free freedom for the people in Soviet Russia and Siberia. I play guitar, I love playing songs of Kino, GrOB, Egor Letov. Last one was Gruppa Krovi and it's bass lines too. I'm conteplating creating a channel and make vids since I play for 15+ years.
Got all equipment but kinda nervenous, stuff is tense here if people think you're a sympitiser of Russia, you'll be an outcast, our get legal ttouble. But I don't care really... But still do... But I have multiple Tshirts of Letov, Viktor Tsoi, and to be honest one of Lenin on his propagenda, and I wear them and notice people looking dirty to me. And I'm a very very light skinned Morrocan, might get mistaken for a an eastern. european.
Free Palestine t shirts are forbidden, you get fined and some people get kicked out of places for just a shirt.
I wear them (The russian shirts I mean) as a statement that I am not a sheep like them, with Tsoi on it, Letov on it and Lenin on it, I Do not openly support palestine because I live in a concervative neighbourhood, might get attacked or worse... lots of racists here, but these shirts have meaning, one says Hochu Peremen (we want change) the letov one says (Everything is going according to plan in crylic).
We want change, that carries a lot of weight then you realize, it's not a simple statement looking at everything as is really is. Philosophilcal. I'm sorry for thr tangent, I smoke a joint sometime to relax and I get philosophical, all we want is everybody to get along or at least show respect to each other. These last words... I sound like my mother haha, she raised me the best she could, and I know she's a great mother, she knows I would give her my kidney if she ever needed one. This is a stoned philosophic dude talking, but it's true, wewant change, we need change. I hope for change. But this is reality and there will always be twisted dictators no matte if's the year 3000... Well... all i can say, peace upon you my friends, we say Assalamu Aleykum that's the word and meaning, you learned something today if you read this far.
Peace upon you❤
Everything about this song is so bleak, I love it.
Thanks for this heavenly music. There are some typos in both English and Russian, hope you can correct them to properly render hommage and pay heed to this great song.
Sounds as if he knew he was going on a trip in to the sky on the silver wing soon, happy that he had music so he can disapear, leaving us no more than a shadow, a memory in sound.

I read the description and was wondering are you still planning on doing russian songs with the lyrics and tell a bit what the meaning of certain sentences in the song? Because it's been 9 months ago since you uploaded something. I'm willing to see more stuff like that especially from viktor tsoi it's really cool. :)
I also found your vid recently by searching for a vid wit the lyrics for this song.

@@russianwithmusic2362 can you do Ataman by kino?
0:22 "foreign" seems too specific. "alien" is probably more appropriate in the context
Uh, nope. Definitely not "alien". I understand what you mean. That verse is about alienation and not belonging, after all. But I don't see it working in English really well.
That's the problem with poetry and idioms. They often dwell on borderline meanings of the words, and that borderline usually does not translate well in different languages.
@@laierr Why not? Works fine as in "legal alien, Englishman in New York". "Foreign" doesn't really have borderline meanings which makes it strictly worse.
Maybe “stranger” could work, but alien simply does not fit in. Alien has its own word in russian.
@@Proseless Which word? "Чужой" is exactly the word used to translate "alien" from Alien franchise
Turalcar “alien” is more so used to describe something otherwordly in russian. You can even search it up on google translate, it’ll give you its own word. “Foreign” or “strange” or even “unknown” simply works better under the context of the song. He isn’t talking about anything otherwordly, we know its from our world because windows are human objects and the whole song rather is under the context of being alone in your own world, rather than alone on another.

You can probably use "forth" instead of forward I actually find Russian translates better into more archaic English which has a slightly different syntax
i wasn't mixed heart and stomach "heart is soul but politic is for stomach".
My family is Ukrainian Canadian. The Ukrainian we speak in Canada is an old Ukrainian language. Much of it is unknown to Ukrainians in Ukraine today unless you lived over 100+ years ago. many soviet rock songs have links to drugs. so here it is "plane with silver wing", which means
foil packaging of drugs, morphine for example
I was wondering what he meant by that as silver wings seemed to specific to mean nothing
too bulky and
controversial version.
@@franciscolomeli8931
The silver wing of the aircraft is the image of forward and upward movement. . Antithesis to the rest of the text, where the situation is static, and the past has disappeared (there are no traces of what happens when
strong wind and bad weather cover up tracks in snow or sand)
@@svlgsvlg3903 after listening to the song again this explanation makes a lot more sense as the singer is often portrayed moving forward but being disoriented as whatever is behind is unrecognizable or just gone. Which I think is a metaphor the past and the USSR where people lived better lives and had a shared vision of a better future but after the fall made everyone feel disillusioned about the future and feel alienated about the new world they're living in.
