Weslaco Lady Panthers - 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTATION

In one of the greatest games that will ever go down in the history of the Rio Grande Valley and the State of Texas High School Softball, the Weslaco Lady Panthers are the 6A State Champions.
From the beginning the Lady Panthers were counted out and were considered the greatest underdogs compared to their opponents, The Waco Midway Pantherettes.
It was already history, the Weslaco Lady Panthers, along with the Harlingen South Lady Hawks, were the first in Rio Grande Valley History to make it to the Softball State Finals.
The game went on with Weslaco trailing the entire game. Madelynn Cantu, who is considered on the best pitchers in the entire State, gave up 3 home runs to the Midway Pantherettes. The score was 9-3 entering the bottom of the 7th. Weslaco was starting to lose hope.
A pop up was the first out of the inning and Midway was fired up.
Then, Midway’s pitcher began to give up walks and hits. Midway’s Head Coach panicked and took out her ace and stuck in a Freshman pitcher. Weslaco was not phased. They kept fighting and fighting and fighting.
Weslaco Lady Panthers came back 9-7 and the Weslaco crowd was fired up. Midway’s coach then put her ace pitcher back into the game cold. There was an obvious shift in momentum.
The bases were loaded, 1 out, and a State Championship on the line. Andrea Ortiz, steps up to bat. She was 0 for 3 in the game. The count was 3-2. One swing of the bat: Gone.
And the rest is history.
