summary of important sign during delivery of placenta: :
    umbilical cord lengthens
gush of blood after uterine contraction
    Uterus feels more firm
uterus rises closer to abdominal wall
if these dont all occur, there is inc. likelihood of Uterine Inversion ("prolapse")

Great video. I wanted to add for the nursing students the types of placenta acreta and how I remember them: 1. Placenta Acreta=AT the ENDometrium to slight myometrium 2. Placenta INcreta= IN the myometrium 3. Placenta PERcreta= PERFORATION of the uterus.
This can also lead to delayed post partum hemorrhage.

5-15 mins is a very short period of time to expect a body to expel a placenta. In fact may take up to 60 mins in normal physiological birth! The immediate thing that came to mind when I heard you say this was a very medicalized hospital birth in which the doctor panics that the body isn't just a birthing machine and administers Pitocin without informed choice :(

It can even take 12 hours in some cases. It's actually a brillian biological defense against placental abruption.
