I ran across reborn dolls by accident when I was scrolling through TH-cam. I became fascinated and began watching videos. Soon, I thought it would be fun to start collecting dolls, but due to the cost, my first few were baby dolls, but not actual reborns. Eventually I found a Coco Malu, which I still have, and spent what I thought was the exorbitant amount of $200. That was around 2015, and I’ve been buying dolls ever since. Monroe looks so cute!!

I have collected dolls since I was a little girl. My first collectible doll was an OOAK by Eva Helland, it was around 1994. I don’t know if I will ever have that feeling again as I remember vividly waiting for her. Eva wouldn’t send pictures, so your baby was a surprise. My first silicone was also by Eva Helland. Although I love all my dolls it’s become so common now that I don’t feel the same excitement as the first. I still really enjoy it and plan and shop for them, but it will never be the same!
My first ever reborn doll was a pluggy blonde rooted Berenguer crying doll that was rinsed purple inside her head and limbs and she was 16inches and I was enchanted by her! (found her on eBay £80 with 5 mins left on her auction) I was hunting down bear making supplies ..
Then.. my research began.. she was followed by a pair of high end vinyl twins by Helen Jalland, I redressed them in baby clothes from Boots everyday!! That was the start..nearly 20 years ago, now I am craving a long stable collection MORE than change or box arrivals and departures!! I am really really OVER adding more dolls to my collection (if only my heart would get the message 🙏😂🙏😂🙏
I remember my first reborn. I thought she was so real. Looking back she wasn't that realistic but the fact she was weighted and looked like a baby at the time just wowed me and I remember feeling such elation and contentment 😅
I started reborning in 2001 and there aren't even words to describe the difference between the art then and now. It truly is one of those "you had to be there" things. I had this same experience the first time I created a doll, and I get what you're saying about chasing that feeling of accomplishment rings true for creating them as well. My art has gone farther than I ever believed it could, but there's still some special element of completing that first one that can't be replicated.
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was during the shutdown. When I saw her I was blown away. I don't know if I am chasing the feeling of my first purchase, nothing compares to it for me.

My first reborn was actually also the first baby I painted. The jacelyn kit by bountiful baby. I have her still and adore her! I knew about and wanted a reborn for a while before but didnt want to spend hundreds on one so I made one myself. After that I was hooked!
