- It was a great downstate visit with alot of train catches. I forgot to bring my tripod and the videos show that but life goes on -right? The google map shows the location of the RR tunnel and where we stood to get our videos. THe red dot on the right mid screen is the tunnel entrance and the blue box on the left is our location. WE had planned on another catch at this location but did not get the opportunity. The second video is one of four catches in Imlay City to catch the CN as it travels West from Canada.
When I was in elementary school a field trip was held to ride a passenger train from the old tunnel depot through the original tunnel just north to sarmia and then return. Good times.
What fun!!
Freights running at 59 mph are real eye openers if you aren't used to it. Some spots on BNSF they run 69 mph. Awesome video, enjoyed it much. Thanks Nancy!
THank you!
This train's doing about 45-50mph. It seems Nancy's holding the camera fairly still as the first two locomotives come past, and it takes then about 65 frames of video to pass. That's about 150ft of locomotive in about 2.2s, which is somewhere between 45 and 50mph.
Wow those were Boston and Maine hoppers on there! Awesome video Nancy!
THanks Kevin!
That sound is the shift change sirens at the refinery across the river in Sarnia. I hope you enjoyed your visit down here.
THanks Mark-it was great but just not enough time!
St.Clair Tunnel ! You finally made it down south. Awesome Nancy, this spot you picked out is great. Those were nice freight's you caught especially the one entering the tunnel. Excellent video 👍🏻
Thanks Mike! I loved being '"HOME"!
@@nancyhaunYou're welcome You originally from this area of Michigan ?
@@MikeG42 Born and raised in Detroit!
Close as it is my trade activity in lower Michigan has never been even close to that of other Midwestern states. For quite some time the GTW hi Cube boxcars would have stencils on them saying do not put through the St Clair tunnel as they would get hung up and hence they had to go on the old car ferry between Detroit and Windsor. It looks like they have a bunch of CCTVs set up near the tunnel mouth and I don't think anyone wants the double whammy of railroad police and Border Patrol. It looks like they never finished the concrete work to the right of the opening however but thanks to you now I know what it looks like. That second train was really moving. Thanks for the interesting coverage
1st time I've seen the Port Huron tunnel. Nice catch. 👍🇺🇸😁
THis has been on my list for awhile!
Fantastic Pike and Walleye fishing. 🇺🇸🛥️
@@nancyhaunTake your fishing gear. 🇺🇸🛥️
@@markwilliams5606 WE were watching the freighters by the Bluewater bridge and a man had a steelhead and a nice walleye on the stringer!
Thanks for the very fine videos and for visiting my town of Port Huron. I am sorry that I missed seeing you and visiting with you, my home is just a few blocks away from the tunnel. I will try to visit with you in the future, either in my town or in the upper peninsula. You can also get some great videos of the Amtrak passenger trains west of Kalamazoo. The Amtrak passenger trains on the runs going to Chicago run a quite impressive speeds.
Hi Will!
Alot of the newer crossing bells do that--- on for a while, then off, then maybe on again after the train passes.
Good info thanks!
You make it sound very random. 🙂 The bells sound to warn that the gates are about to come down. Once the gates are closed, you're expected to be watching where you're going and not drive into them. Some of them also briefly ring the bells to warn that the gates are about to come up, probably in case anyone's standing close. Seems like a good idea -- saves having to listen to them for ten minutes while a train rumbles past.
Hello Nancy! I have subbed & hit the like and bell! Very nice shots and love the setting! Stay connected with me!
Thank you! I subbed your group also!
Wow,!! That second train was booking. Great video Nancy. Thanks for sharing. Hope you are having a good time.
A very good time!
As Jawtooth would say, “What’s your hurry!” Yep, it was “bookin’”.
Good to see these places getting coverage! 👍
Two nights there were young boys in Imlay City taking video-made me feel good to know they were were railfans!
I think some of those tanker cars may have been put off in Sarnia, as there is a lot of chemical industry there. But, I'm pretty sure that train ended up going by me, in London-- I've see those Boston and Maine cars go through town all the time, and I can't believe there's too many of those still around. Both CN and CP run through town, the lines that go to Sarnia/Port Huron run close, but CN also has a track that leads off to Windsor/Detroit. CN tends to be the busier line through London.
I would love to come there but no passport so... WE used to come to Canada all the time. It's such a clean country!
Great video! I sit in Imlay all the time and watch trains. I hope you guys got some of the delicious pizza from Pizza Machine on the corner! There used to be like 40+ trains through Imlay City back in the day. You will see Amtrak fly through there as well.
It sure is an excellent location to catch them! Wish I had known about Pizza Machine!
Great video Nancy. When I get the chance I go to Durand and sit at the depot two different subs come together there
I'm working on my Durand video now! Got there at 5 just as they were closing and getting ready for a Prom event but still caught a train going around the curve to Detroit!
@@nancyhaun Great Im glad you made it there can't wait to see your video.
Just west of where you were was the Pontiac, Oxford & Northern roadbed that is now the PollyAnn Trail. The Vlasic plant abuts both trainlines and there's a deactivated turnout from the CN (GT) line that used to drop off boxcars. That's back when this line had switching in both Imlay City and Lapeer. Those tracks were torn out in 1984.
THank you-I had planned on taking photos of the arch bridge on the PollyAnn Trail but ran out of time. Would you believe the stalls in my horse barn in Lapeer were made from old "pickel wood" when Vlasic was doing some renovations back in that time. Interesting!
Awesome video
Again awesome video Nancy beautiful and the country and watching enjoying too 🚂🚂👍😃😎♥️ awesome adventure Nancy ❤
Thanks Don!
Nice catches of Canadian National trains at Port Huron and Imlay City, Michigan, Nancy! You had some good railfanning at those two locations.
It was excellent Thomas!
Thanks for the good video
THanks I really enjoyed being there!
Hey got to be#1Today.nice video.
Thanks I really enjoyed being downstate where there is so much train action!
Apparently there are sensors in the Tunnel to detect pedestrians.
I'd like to go through the old tunnel but never this one!
CCTV cameras on the pole to the right of the entrance, too.
I’ve seen this up close in person it’s so cool to hear them in yhr tunnel and then explode out!!!
Hi Nancy these are bigger engines than on your line. caroline
That was a fast moving train
Almost blow you over!
Totally 100% cool surprise video.
Tunnel Vision: I'm kinda surprised at how close you got to the tunnel, and the apparent lack of border security there.
WE weren't so close-zoom lenses.
16th Street grade crossing?
@@erbewayne6868 Yes!!
What are you doing down state Nancy?
Visiting family and chasing trains!!
You can actually see the old original grade here…to yhr right if that opening is the older tunnel from long time ago
Port Huron Michigan. Pike and Walleye country 🇺🇸☕
Wow Nancy, what a train. I counted 4 engines and 184 cars, and it was haulin you know what. Shew, that's a change! Hey, I wished I would'a known you's was comin to Imlay, I own a house just south of Imlay, in Allenton. I'd a bought you a Chicken Dinner at Timmer's Maryland Chicken up at Old M-21& Vandyke. Or at least a Frosty at the Wendy's. I bought my folks last estate after Mom passed and it's only about 11.2 miles to the South right off of VanDyke. It's empty and I gotto go over there all the time, so it'd been easy for me & I'd a liked meetin ya. I've been going to Imaly City for 45yrs and I've owned the house for the last 8 this fall. OH WELL you're probably gone by now so we'll let bygones be I guess. Thank you for the video, safe riding and we'll see ya trackside in your next video. ben/ michigan a troll living under the bridge.
Sorry to have missed you Ben! WE stayed at the Days Inn-very clean and friendly staff. My girls showed at the Imlay City Fair 4-H dogs and horses so I am very familiar with the area. WE lived in Lapeer for many years!
Just three locomotives on the second train: two CN and one BNSF. You can see quite clearly at 7:18.
Excellent video ,😂😂nancy
THanks Brad!
probably local residents have complained about the noise from the lights or a person with a heart problem lives nearby. caroline
Once the gates are closed, there's really no reason to keep ringing the bells. If somebody's going to drive through the gate into the side of a train, a bell probably isn't going to change that.
Great video Nancy 👍🏻😎Robin out
Copy that Robin!
Hold on. I am confused. You were waiting for the train to come out of the tunnel, and then one came from the opposite direction. That means the train is still in the tunnel. 😂
Maybe there wasnt actually a train in the tunnel? 😂
😆😆😆
She never said there was one in the tunnel. She was waiting for a train coming out in the sense of "We're gonna sit here until a train comes out of the tunnel" not in the sense of "I know you're in there and I'm staying here until you come out!"
I would've walked closer to the tunnel if possible.
Since we were on RR property -even tho I would have liked to go closer it seemed like a good idea to stay back. That is why I like zoom lenses.
@nancyhaun unless you're near a yard I wouldn't be to concerned about trespassing the police wouldn't really care unless someone calls.
@@maxrshelltrack7443 It's railroad property and, more importantly, the US-Canadian border is half-way through the tunnel. It looks like there's CCTV on a pole to the right of the tunnel entrance. Regardless of what one thinks about trespassing in general, that's really not a good place to do it.
That "noise" after the first train may have been from testing tornado sirens..............L'Anse probably doesnt get tornadoes 🌪.
Somebody said it's the shift change siren at the local refinery. Doesn't sound like a tornado siren to me. Sirens warning of dangerous things sound... dangerous, for want of a better word. You don't hear that siren and think that something bad's on the way.
Well, that's a nice film of the train entering the tunnel. Ok, you would definitely have liked a train in the opposite direction better. The 2nd train caused quite a bit of wind. I thought you were almost going to fly away...laugh. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven..... Did you know this video from the tunnelbuilding???th-cam.com/video/BGpDH7I6hfg/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Sven-no I didn't know about the video but I will definitely share it with my groups!
@@nancyhaun Yes, make it.....thanks
