    • @VaChiee
      @VaChiee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      it looks to me a type of leveling/ tilling of the soil is done after the bogs are made strong, then they take the two squares of half growen rice, pull it and clean the roots, then transplant with 2in spacing so when they get bigger they will spread and fill in

    Amazing to see it all come together now! From when you build the fields and fertilised them (was always wondering when those were going to be removed) to harvesting the wild rice, sorting and treating the seeds and getting that initial growth to planting them in the nursery and now finally into the fields. It's awesome to see this entire process without any modern tools involved. I never realised that you'd need less than half the nursery rice to plant both fields, that is going to be a seriously big harvest.

      Just so you know, there are dry land rice growing techniques and hundreds of varieties of rice. Some can even grow in more temperate climates. (Missouri, a USA state near Canada, grows rice) So if you can grow wheat or barley, you should be able to grow rice too. I hope that was useful info for you. :)

      God created nature and animals, the devil created concrete jungles and ugly machines which destroys and pollutes the environment. The devil wants to create his own world but it's failing miserably. The more this world gets urbanized, the more chaos and sin it will breed and we're heading right on that path. 1. Build small box and take green grass and new sprouts and toss them in box to make compost. All the nutrients will break down and give you "food" for your plants.
    2. If you ever see your plants turn brown.. find bats and collect their poo. Let it dry and harden. Use it by sprinkling it over the ground you want to make green.

    I've done this before, it's back breaking work, especially the part where you have to put the plants one by one into the mud, which you'd think would be the easiest part but it's quite the opposite, cause your bending your back 90% of the time and you gotta be gentle with the roots so they don't break but still stand upright in the mud.

    Looks asif you are somewhere you going to need to reclaim more land, for the rice you have to plant looks asif you have more rice then paddies. You need to invest into a water buffalo to work the paddies with now and with the amount of rice that will be produced from them to plant next year that now you are a rice grower.

  • @montanus777
    @montanus777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    what's btw the benefit of putting the plants in deeper water and spread them more? in other words: how will the plants in your great rice fields be different from the plants in the original patch in a few weeks/months?

    • @rickknight3823
      @rickknight3823 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      montanus777 from my understanding it's all a process.
      In the beginning he sows the seeds and hope they will all grow well, some don't or the weaker ones die off.
      When they reach a certain height as in the video - you pick and start to give each group of 3 or 4 enough space and water to grow nice and healthy in a water logged paddy field close by. Rice plants love water and a bit of space around them.
      So when they grow to a good size they will start to produce flowers/seeds...
      Just before this happens (the clever bit) they drain the paddy field of all the water and leave for a specific time period.
      Why?
      Because this puts the rice plant under stress thinking it's going to die and so it makes more effort to produce more flowers/seeds (rice) - to ensure its survival when the main plant dies eventually.
      This method of draining just before seed development gives far higher crop yield = more rice.
      Many plants act this way.
      When the seeds are developing (I think) they refill the paddy field with water to give nice juicy healthy seed rice. Clever!

    • @montanus777
      @montanus777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      oh wow, that's an interesting detail with the draining. so, a 'good rice field' needs to be high enough to allow drainage. when you sometimes see pictures of rice fields, it may lead to the impression, that they're just constantly under water.

    • @lucasriley874
      @lucasriley874 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      montanus777, you could keep growing rice in the nursery paddy, but harvest would be tiny for the number of plants in there. Transplanting and spacing them out allows each one more room to grow and spread and although it obviously uses a lot more land you'll get a far, far, larger harvest from the same number of plants. As Rick Knight already explained rice paddies aren't flooded all the time, once your harvest is ready it's also usual to drain the paddy and let it dry out a bit first. Harvesting is a lot easier if it's done in a dry paddy rather than in water and mud.

    • @tableslam
      @tableslam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It depends on the variety of rice he used. Each grain can produce several stalks (just like lawn grass - rice is actually a type of grass), and each stalk has one seed head. Each seed head can produce anywhere from dozens to hundreds of individual seeds.
      If you watched his earlier video where he cleans the seeds and threshes them, his yield for just these two paddies will probably be higher than the total amount of rice he started with for both nursery areas.

    • @consideringorthodoxy5495
      @consideringorthodoxy5495 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most grass species don't like water, but rice does, the water also keeps the temperature consistent fore the rice.

      The first small area is a nursery. Starting with seedlings in your crop fields instead of sowing seed directly can partially or completely eliminate problems such as pests and disease. Also, crops started from seedlings rather than directly sown seeds produce faster yields.
      Humans have used this nursery method of agriculture for hundreds of years, and we still do it to this day in our commercial agriculture.

      Frediloc8 1. use it in other fields 2. Give it to Farmers nearby who can use them or 3. one can still put them in the corner of the fields in small handfuls. If it's more than a dozen or two stalks the rice produce is too much for that small area and it's tends to break or bend (making it easy easy target for mice etc) thereby making the extra exercise futile
