@@denroy3 As a huge fan of Robbie I sadly know of his passing. However, when he and Ringo played this they were in their seventies that was my point. Robbie did at age 80.
I love the Playing For Change videos. The first I ever saw was about 10 years ago. Stand By Me. It included an iconic New Orleans street performer, Grandpa Elliott. All those times in NOLA and I never saw him. RIP Grandpa. But I'm thankful for all the great street musicians that are all over the city.
Oh, good point! They need to check out Willie and Merle's rendition of "Pancho and Lefty". Written by Townes Van Zant, one of the great American songwriters in his own right. Van Zant's original recording is excellent but you know how sometimes a cover will overshadow the original? Think Jimi Hendrix covering Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower"; or "Black Magic Woman" written by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac or "Respect" written and originally recorded by the legendary Otis "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay" Redding or Manfred Mann's Earth Band's cover of Springsteen's "Blínded By the Light" &/or "Spirits In the Night". Well I think that Merle & Willie's cover is like those. Tioraidh an-drasta 🏴
YES! so glad you reacted to "Playing for Change" - what a great organization.. and this is only one of many great productions by them! appreciate your reaction, and look forward to more by PFC! (p.s. not just pandemic.. they've been doing this for well over a decade)... one more thing, in case you didn't know, "Lukas Nelson" featured on guitar is Willie's son... lol
Talk around the campfire is Robbie's son helped put this together as well as 6 months of editing. Amazing production/performances. The two ladies from Jamaica are singing in front of Bob Marley's birthplace. Way cool!!!
I get chills watching this video every time - Robbie is a Canuck! A Beatles and Band member together, perfect. Love how this is all "amateur" professionals.
Sam and Phil... as always a great reaction to a great collaboration piece of music. I have always loved the Band. Yeah they really brought in some diverse musicians. Loved the Sitar ❤
You really need to check out Playing for Change's cover of Led Zeppelin's "When The Levee Breaks", featuring John Paul Jones, Led Zep's bassist. It's a masterpiece.
Great Reaction from you! Here are two more great songs from Playing For Change 1. Skin Deep featuring Buddy Guy | Playing For Change | Song Across the USA 2. When The Levee Breaks feat. John Paul Jones | Playing For Change | Song Around The World
Also: Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, a collaboration between Playing for Change and the International Committee of the Red Cross in honor of the International Day of the Disappeared.
Robbie Robertson, one of the all time greats. Playing for Change has been around a long time. Originally they used a lot street performers, community members along with one “known” artist. “Gimme Shelter”, “La Tierra del Olvido”, “Redemption Song”. So many more.
Playing for Change has many of these videos, they make me feel better about the, world. Recommend When the Levy Breaks as your next Playing for Change video.
Thanks for reminding me of this project! Need to check it out again ... times flies by! I worte an magazine artikel about this project and their cd ... I just looked it up and ... wow, I wrote this article back in 2009!!! < yes, 2009 - not 2019. And now I am feeling old! XD Glady not to old to check it out again! Thanks for your reaction! :)
I think Robby Robinson last performance before he passed and he was the writer of the song. One more thing the Lucas Nelson, in the video is one of Willie Nelson sons he's amazing performer.
The Playing for Change organization is worth taking a look at. The money they raise has been used to build several music oriented schools around the world. They've been at it for a decade or so and have built up quite a tasty library.
Such a phenomenal collaboration proving we are one world and can come together beautifully. Also check out the same group doing Everyday People and Sitting On the Dock of the Bay.
You should watch the Last Waltz live version of the Band doing this with the Staple Singers. If you don't get chills when Mavis Staples starts the second verse, you have no feelings!
The line, "Rolled into Nazareth..." was inspired by the label stamped inside of a Martin guitar. "Made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania" - I have a pre-war D-35 that has the same thing stamped (it's actually lightly woodburned) inside. Our eldest daughter has claimed it when I am gone. She plays it pretty good, too. Our youngest wants my '62 Strat, because "Sheena is a punk rocker"🤘 Tioraidh an-drasta 🏴 frae your auld Scottish mate 😊
Some of the musicians are well known within the genres they perform in. Others tour with the "Playing for Change" band. Still others are regulars in "Playing for Change" videos. Check out "Playing for Change"' treatment of The Doobie Brothers' "Listen to the Music". Brings tears of joy every time.
If you guys haven't reacted to Gimmie Shelter by "playing for change" yet, you have to! It is the most amazing rendition of a classic Stones song I have ever heard. Freaking love that version. Just saying.
A lot of these musicians are locally popular, Marcus King is big on the SE US coast, Mermans is big in Africa, Larkin Poe is upcoming in California, Lukas Nelson (actually playing in New Orleans I think) is Willie Nelsons son, the Jamaican ladies sang with Bob Marley and the Wailers and are singing in front of the shack that Bob grew up in, I assume the other musicians are similarly important (locally at least). This effort was produced by Robbie Robertsons son as a gift/tribute to his dad.
All of the Play for Change songs are well done and the singers are wonderful. A lot of these players are street performers but others are more professional.
So glad you've discovered the Playing for Change series. As iconic performances as there are from all over the world. Check out When the Levee Breaks with John Paul Jones, Love Train with The O'Jays - pretty much any of their videos are just amazing - and shows that music is one of the forces that can bring people all over the world closer together.
There are some other great songs that are covered under "Playing for Change", they are worth checking out. The singers and musicianship are phenomenal. Like The Doobie Brothers' "Listen to the Music".
Marcus King, Larkin Poe, and Luke Nelson are all rising stars today. You might REALLY like Lukas Nelson's big hit Find Yourself (background vocals by Lady Gaga).
the original was called Playing For Change they take unknown artists and street performers and make these colabs and there beautifully done. again check out Stand By Me
Hi ya'll could you Please check out Earl Thomas Conley " HONOR BOUND " OR CHUCK WICKS "HOLD THAT THOUGHT " VIDEO A MUST OR CLAY WALKER " FORE SHE WAS MAMA " VIDEO A MUST OR LAST BUT NOT LEAST BLAINE ROY " PAPER AND PEN " TY
the whole concept of Playing for Change is beyond amazing.....................it unifies the whole world in music. I love it....................
The world has gone to war all over, so I guess it didn't work.
Robbie and Ringo in their seventies, they haven't lost their touch.
Robbie passed away August 6th 2023 R.I.P
@@stevenseul361 Yes, I know. I'm a huge Robbie fan. He died on August 9th at age 80. However, when he did this was in his seventies.
Ringo is in his 80s, not 70s. He was also the oldest member of the Beatles. Still tours sometimes with his brother-in-law Joe Walsh from the Eagles.
Robbie is dead...pretty sure his touch has left tge building.
@@denroy3 As a huge fan of Robbie I sadly know of his passing. However, when he and Ringo played this they were in their seventies that was my point. Robbie did at age 80.
Wish the world could be like this every day.
Two PLAYING FOR CHANGE tunes that have heavy focus of bringing the world together are Bob Marley tunes; ONE LOVE and WAR/NO MORE TROUBLE.
Well, it's not going to be...
This was recorded for the 50th anniversary of Robbie Robertson writing this song and playing for change is incredible
Love Robbie, and how he brings people together, from all over the world. Miss him.
Larkin and Poe. ❤

The harmonies with so many voices from around the world -- that's what hits my heart.
Lukas Nelson from Austin Tx is Willie's son. Good ol' Willie is the last of the Outlaws. Kris Kristopherson passed away recently.
I have CDs by both Willie and Lukas
Why would you say that? Now they're going to be confused. They just did a reaction to the Outlaws band from Tampa
@stevenseul361 Right. Willie is the last of The Highwaymen, and sadly is really showing his age

@@JimiBurleigh i love Pancho & Lefty. Emmy Lou does it justice too.
I had forgotten about this performance. Thank You so much for playing it. RIP Robbie!
Love the Playing for Change movement. Playing for change by Sara Breille is another beautiful banger to absorb.
R.I.P. Robbie Robertson. Wonderful to see Larkin Poe (at 4:00), recent Grammy winners for Best Contemporary Blues Album - the Lovell sisters rock!
You know a song is on another level when it translates to so many different voicings and never loses it’s feel
There is a very interesting "making of" video (in 2 parts) about this video. Shows the process. Robbie's son produced the video. Thanks guys!
Love the world collaboration!!
This is such an amazing group performance.
Simply excellent. Great choice guys, excellent excellent.....

That is so cool some of my next requests will be Bob Marley
His son, Sebastian, is a major producer for PFC and has appeared in several videos they have done, most notably in "When the Levee breaks" and "Biko"
@hectorsmommy1717 When the levee breaks is probably tied with The Weight as my favorites 👍✌️
Took me a long time to learn that Lucas Nelson, shown in the video, is Willie's son.
I saw him in concert with Willie a few years ago. He certainly is his father's son. The concert was awesome.
🔥🥰
Performances like this are something great that came from the lockdowns ❤
I LOVE these videos! Truly, music has the power to bring the world together.
We need to give it a chance.
RIP Robbie.

Playing for Change shows us how much we have in common which allows us to celebrate our differences instead of being afraid of them.

I read on a Nazareth CD cover that they took their name from the lyric "pulled in to Nazareth" form this song.
