The Hillman Super Minx is a family car which was produced by Hillman from 1961 to 1967. It was a slightly larger version of the Hillman Minx.
Announced in October 1961, the Super Minx gave Rootes (the Rootes Group or Rootes Motors Limited was a British car manufacturer), and especially its Hillman brand, a presence at the upper end of the family car market. It has been suggested that the Super Minx design was originally intended to replace rather than simply complement the standard Minx, but was deemed too large for that purpose. A station wagon joined the line in May 1962, and a two-door convertible followed in June 1962. The convertible never sold in significant numbers, with the last one being produced in June 1964, before the introduction of the Super Minx Mark III in September 1964.
The front suspension was independent using coil springs with an anti-roll bar, and the rear had leaf springs and a driven axle. Lockheed 9 in (229 mm) diameter drum brakes were installed. The steering used a recirculating ball system and, as was common at the time, was not power-assisted. The car can be ordered in one-color or two-tone paint. The four-speed manual transmission had synchromesh on the top three ratios and a floor lever from the start: a Smiths Easidrive automatic transmission was an option.
