In Lithuania we also have a layered cake, but instead of making it smooth we let the dough drip, forming little branches everywhere. That's why it's called “šakotis” aka "branched" (or something like that)

When I was an apprentice chef I had a German head chef who used to get me to make this every Saturday night in winter over an open fire. It tastes great over an open fire.
The first time I saw a cake like this was in a game called “Cooking Mama” I didn’t know this kind of cake existed before playing the game. But I still wondered if it was real because of the way that it’s made… so I googled it. It’s a very interesting way of making a cake. I would love to try it one day 🙂

It's to do with physics. You can't fold a piece of paper more than 7 times and you can't make baumkuchen more than 23 layers.
I think it is designed to fit within the heated part of this apparatus.

The first time I saw a cake like this was in a game called “Cooking Mama” I didn’t know this kind of cake existed before playing the game. But I still wondered if it was real because of the way that it’s made… so I googled it. It’s a very interesting way of making a cake. I would love to try it one day 🙂
