    You have probably saved me £250 +, so a big thank you to you . Such a detailed video …..
    Fixed my Howdens Lamona 6911 , wine cooler approx 7 years old . Ordered the part as advised , correct resistance 15 ohms and 2 for £7 . If you take off the old starter relay and shake it , if it rattles it is faulty . Took apart and discs was broken , same video . Not much room when taking off cover , so best to put on its side and be careful not to damage anything .

      I had the same issue, new relay was few mm larger so had to ditch the cover to get it in, but worked like a charm, strangely the motor hardly made any difference in noise but clearly this was the issue, a really good video.

    Sir... you are a legend! My daughter found your TH-cam video and within 24 Hours and for £6.49 I have a perfectly working CDAFWC303SS wine cooler! The part you linked to from Amazon took 30 seconds to fit and didn't require any modifications. The hardest part was gently getting to the electrical cover box and taking that lid off. Once done it was a breeze to fix. Thank you👍

    Many thanks Magic Smoke. We were going to replace ours when I found this video. The thermistor was intact but didn’t look great. Bought the replacement via the link in one of the other comments - didn’t quite fit at first (similar to Ben Cook). Turned the unit back on and it started working again! Paid £5.99 for the part. Saved me about £300. And with the satisfaction of having fixed it. Thanks again!

    • @razenby
      @razenby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad it helped. The main issue is that the supply impedance of the GB mains supply is low and the voltage is high and most stuff is designed to operate for 220-230V mains and in the UK it is 230 - 255 volts. It gives the thermistor a much greater whack of current when starting the motor. Power dissipation goes up as square of the voltage.....

    Mine (CDA Model FWC303SS) was the same so I bought the part from your link. Unfortunately the part was slightly to big to fit in the available space by about 1.5mm. Fortunately the plastic cover is double walled at that point so I could remove a portion of the cover without compromising the protection of the cover. Then bingo, it all worked fine. Thanks for a great fix.

      Good info. The one I bought plugged straight on. They are pretty generic parts and I wouldn't put it past a supplier buying the cheapest 'equivalent' that looks just about the same. Thanks for the update and good job!

    I have the same model cooler as yours and have removed the thermistor and the disc is broken. The thermistor is the same as yours but I can not find a replacement. The ones available that I have found so far are slightly larger and contain a 20mm diameter disc rather than a 15mm one. I have tried to use the larger one but because they sit in a metal tray they don't fit. Can you help me locate the smaller thermistor or a 15mm disc? Would be a shame to scrap the cooler because of a broken disc

      Great to hear! They are a cool thing, Check the fans are working and heat exchanger matrix free from dust and fluff. If the compressor and fans continue to run the check the fridge temp with a thermometer. If the display is reading correctly and If it just cant get low then you are likely low on compressor gas.

    Anything else we can try??

    • @razenby
      @razenby  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a shame. Double check the connections to the motor. Do the fans run and compressor run. You can hear it and feel it vibrating when running,. If the compressor is running and it isn't getting cold then you have a mechanical or coolant gas problem. (Refridgerant pressure is low or has all leaked out). If the compressor isn't running then check the relay on the controller. Is the display steady and bright and the set point controls working? if not suspect an electrolytic capacitor on the controller.

    I have one of these and it’s stopped cooling. The fan is running and I can hear a click as if a switch is coming on - there is a low buzz for a few seconds and then another click. • @razenby

      The compressor is running - you can hear a whir and feel vibration if you touch it. If it is running and you aren't cooling then it is likely the refrigerant has leaked out. Why don't you take the Start thermistor out and look inside to see if it is blown?

    Great video, thought I was onto a winner and replaced the part which was broken but still not chilling below 12c , and compressor doesn’t seem to be functioning correctly, - copper pipes not getting hot / cold. what’s the next component / diagnostic process to Follow? Thanks

    • @razenby
      @razenby  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please like and subscribe. First make sure the cooling fans are running and the heat exchanger that they blow on isn't stuffed with fluff. After checking/cleaning and it OK, check if the compressor is still running when it bottoms out at 12 deg C. i.e. The controller is demanding cold (compressor on) but the compressor has not enough ooomph to do the job. If the compressor doesn't turn off then it is likely low on refrigerant gas which likely means the unit is toast. However if the compressor cuts out at 12 deg C and the fridge indicated 12 deg C then you have a set point issue or the controller has failed. Out of interest what is the measured temp in the fridge when it indicated 12 deg C?

      I agree totally entirely. Al the mining, scrapping, melting down remaking is just churning more crap into the environment. The cycle of 'Take, make crap, scrap and throw away' needs to be 'take make, repair and carry on using'. Something like this should have a mandatory lifetime of 30,000 hours at least, If it needs fixing them make the spares cheap and provide the tech info and then you have LOCAL employment for repair Technicians and not recycling, landfill and pollution. When was the last time your were offered the choice: ' Do you want to spend 10% more and have something that last 5 times as long?'

      Glad to be of service. I suspect that there are lot of these out there. It constitutes a massive disrespect for the customer and the planet to incorporate such poor quality components. Part of the problem is the UK 240V mains supply. The power dissipation increases with the square of the voltage and the UK mains can go as high as 260 volts. Let us know how it goes.

      If the compressor is continues to run and the temperature will go no lower then you either have low gas OR blocked heat exchanger (dust and fluff), OR if it has fans then check they are blowing, The low gas needs a re-gas. If it is cyclo-pentane then it is very flammable. If the compressor is not running then investigate the cause.

    I almost gave up trying to figure out how to get access thinking I shouldn't turn it on its side. Then I saw your video 😁
    That plastic lid is a bit of a pain to remove...
    The cda engineer on the phone actually told me this part.
    I took the old one apart and it looked ok, the disc was whole but one bit a little black.
    Anyway it works now. Only thing I can think of apart from it is broken is I noticed the red wire to the ptc was loose and wouldn't stay on. Dunno if it was that or the ptc, but it works now.
    I agree, £250 quid and it only lasts under 2 years...
    I paid £9 plus postage for mine direct from them.

      You need to change that part if it was blackened. It will likely fail again.

This would stop manufacturers dumping inadequate goods on the market. Every time one goes to scrap another is dug out of the ground releasing pollution and carbon. My cooler is branded 'Lamona' but it's identical to yours, and with exactly the same fault. • @razenby
      @razenby  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info. The problem is UK mains. The voltage is too high (Up to 254V) and the ability to provide a big gulp of current is very good. Resulting in the PTC being overdriven. This is designed for 220-230V continental mains. I see a lot of product sthat don't work well in the UK.

      @@razenby I opened up the old PTC, the disc was in tact but scorched and reading high resistance. I gave it a bit of a clean and it started measuring the correct resistance again.

    Great video. I’ve done this twice now, but after a few days it stops again. Each time the thermistor is cracked, replace and it fires up again. Any ideas? Thanks

    • @razenby
      @razenby  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be that the starter winding is bad in the motor. What current thermistor did you fit? Make sure that is is the correct one and double check that you have the wires on the correct way around.. If all is good, maybe suspect the PTCs you are buying aren't good.

      @@razenby thank you. the module is marked 1/5 150ohm 220V. Seems it can only be wired one way, two blue wires (one with a link) to a single contact on the thermistor module. One thing I noticed is I have some discolouration to the wire connector. With a new one fitted another observation is that the compressor switches on and off even when it’s coming down to temp. Thanks for the help

    Advice please….I have this lamona wine cooler says model number is LAM6911. The fan is on but the temperature is not reducing…it stopped working after a hot summer last year and we just didn’t get around to fix it.
    Got power to the unit but the temp won’t drop, door is sealed…is it worth ordering this part and changing it over? Any ideas what part for my model?

    • @razenby
      @razenby  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you checked that the compressor is running? The fan and the compressor are a different modules. If you can confirm the compressor is not running (feel vibrations) then the part changed in the video will most likely fix it. See the other comments. Good luck.
