    hope you enjoy this different style of video! finally updating you on some of my books. also apologies for poor audio in the first couple mins - it gets better! xx if you haven’t seen Jordan Clark’s video on WHY you should start one - I highly recommend as she inspired me to start to my own!

      I just watched Jordan Clark's video, too! I'm actually half way through filling mine in with favorite quotes...and also little plant and flower drawings :D Such a perfectly timed video for my life - lol!

    A very dear friend made me a book for my 18 birthday - half filled with great (lovingly handwritten) quotes, half empty for me to continue. She put so much work and love in it, it was great! And I've continued ever since, am now about 50 and on my third book where I collect quotes. If you do it for a longer time, it's also interesting to go through it and see how the quotes I collected match the experiences I made at that time - there are things in there that I would never write down now, but remind me of certain times in my life.
    Really a great thing to do

    Never heard of the term "common place book" before. I've learned something new today and it's a nice idea: I've always wondered what to do with the interesting quotes I find on books and how not to loose the precious learnings I find in them. Thanks!

    I started an "art journal" three years ago now (that's very neglected at the moment). I choose a favorite quote from every book I read and make a watercolor/art design of it.
    I would love to have a full list of books you recommend when you've got time!
    Also, 100% support the change in video and the creativity you've been dishing out, thank you queen.

    I started a quote book 13 years ago, writing down all of my favorites, but it's since gone to the wayside once I got older, finished school, and stopped reading as much. This was validating to see someone else do the same, and motivational to perhaps return to the reading and writing down of favorites.

      You should look into a commonplace book box. The way it is designed would really help with keeping all your quotes organized. I actually just issued this challenge to my entire community. I'd love to have you check it out and join us for 2020!

    I keep many notebooks mainly of ideas for stories I would like to write, lists of things to do etc bucket lists etc.... another book is for my Thursday church group full of ideas for speakers and outings etc , the notes I will take at committee meetings for forth coming programmes. Church newsletter notes before I put it onto the computer etc x I don’t as of yet have a bible study plan or a prayer journal but I’m working on finding the quiet time I would like and also finding the right platform of study x

This one is particularly great in that I've found myself in the past trying to collect quotes, poems, etc. but was never really successful. I really love your book recommendations. I have read This Changes Everything, Prisoners of Geography and Pachinko so far and I loved each one, especially Pachinko. Don't forget when you write those quotes down to also put the book name, page number, and why it spoke to you at the time. That way, when you come back to it, you will not only have the quote, but everything you felt when it moved you. 👍

    This video embodied what a commonplace book is for me. It is a place where you collect everything that moved you, where you collect sentences that made you think. It is a place of calm and reflection, in the moment of reading and writing down what moved you as well as in the future, when you reread what you wrote.
    And sometimes, I find myself smiling about the things I have written down, because I have changed so much and because my world view has changed so much.
    Great video, thank you!

    English is widely spoken. But what
    beats me is why many English
    speakers expect everyone to just
    speak English to them. Glad I live
    in Switzerland where most of us
    speak Swiss German, German,
    French and English. We do not
    consider this anything special.
    Surely brings our nation together.
    This was a special video. Thanks.

    • @mmcTeacher
      @mmcTeacher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you are saying about the expectations that others should speak English. But I do think there should be common language around the world. I think English should be that language.I already speak Portuguese (my native language) and Spanish.

    So nice to feel like I am on the same wavelength with other people in the world. :) I've been doing a similar thing with notes/quotes from books, podcasts, lectures, and meetings with mentors. This slowed-down, reflective approach has helped me to be more selective about the content I consume. And using a thin, re-fillable journal means I am only toting around current inspiration, which encourages me to be more productive with my art, not waiting to address new ideas...great video topic. :) (I enjoyed T.N.'s BAC book, too!)

    • @TheStrategicKeys
      @TheStrategicKeys 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should use the note card system and a commonplace book - box. Much easier to keep it organized and find what you are looking for when the time comes. I made a video on it, but you can find a number of them on TH-cam. It was made popular by Ryan Holiday and Robert Greene because it is what they have used to write books.

    Your notebook made me wonder if you've ever heard of Karst stone paper? They sell things like notebooks and planners with paper made from 100% recycled stone from the mining and construction industries. This is stone that would normally be just thrown away, but by making paper out of it they're not harming any trees and they're using 1/3 of the carbon footprint of regular paper. They also utilize solar energy during their process of creating the paper and it's all 100% recyclable through regular paper recycling. I have no incentive to promote their stuff, but I found out about it recently, thought it was really cool and since you're one of my favorite youtubers, it made me think of you! :)

    Hello! I just wanted to comment further on language. I am an Asian American and have seen an influx of English only speaking Americans (predominantly white) who are trying to engage in conversations with strangers like me in some other language other then English. The pros are that I can see they want to try to connect but the cons are the rudeness that just because of the way I look they automatically assume I would enjoy the familiarity of another language. I grew up with white people who were very ignorant in my culture and even making fun of my accent or my name. But the best way I feel that we should approach this new age of whites wanting to be more welcoming is not by language but by Being treated just the same
