    I didn't realize it came with a bike pump either. My S3 is arriving tomorrow and I was just about to buy a bike pump too.

      Congratulations! You must be very excited. Ultimately I ended up using the one I purchased as it’s longer and more efficient than the one they sent. But still a nice surprise nonetheless.

    It IS hard to put that little cover plate on the front fork. I went to the hardware store & bought the same black screw but longer which made it easy. I emailed VanMoof about it when I bought it in 2021.

    How are you getting on with the bike? I’m undecided if I should go for this, The Cowboy bike or an Easi-Fit wheel converter? 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Thanks for watching! I have not had to have any repairs made to the bike. It drives very well and the power button remains my favorite feature. I love the boost it gives me on hills. I’ve now put close to 600 miles on the bike.

    Hi from the UK.
    Thank you so much for a very honest and helpful video. Like you I am watching many video's as I await my X3 due in December. I found your video the best because I need to know any problems to look out for and how to solve them. I am a 'young at heart (but not young) female! Cannot wait for it to arrive but still a little nervous about the locking situation, I hope it is resolved now.
    I'm wondering was the kick lock actually engaged when you took it out of the box because if it was then you hadn't been able to set your code in the app at that point which you would need to enable you to unlock it? This bit worries me! I live in the countryside and the nearest Van Moof store is 150 miles away so I have purchased the peace of mind maintenance pack for this reason, I just hope I don't have to use it before I get to ride the bike! Thanks once again and I'm looking forward to your next video.

      Hi Diane and thanks for watching! I set the code in the app while I was setting up the bike. From what I could tell the kick lock was not engaged when I unboxed. Luckily I have not had any further issues with it since it did a hard reset while I was riding on the day in my video.

      Thanks for watching! It’s always assisting you in pedaling the bike (the level of which can be adjusted in the app), but the boost button gives you a sudden surge in speed/power.

      The bike is constantly assisting but you can aslo switch it off. Also you can chose the level of support through the app (not on the bike while riding). The button is only for a short term boost - It is a lot of fun but I understand it is or will be banned in some (how many?) EU countries and they will disable or limit that function. Please read also my review above (and try to find another bike).

    There are updates available for the firmware.
    The kick lock has a rubber inside that needs to "set" after some use it will get more smooth.

      Yeah the issue seems to be resolved now after some firmware update and a hard reset. I’ll be doing an updated review later this week.

      Thanks for watching! I’m 6’0”. The seat and handle bars adjust upward, they were delivered in their lowest position. I had to adjust them up an inch or two so I think you might be ok.

    Thanx for this nice and honest video and your impressions on the vanmoof. I'm curious if the problem with the auto-lock will be gone from now after the reset of the bike. Should not be like that with a product at this price-pint. But besides that I'm pretty confident you'll have much fun driving the vanmoof s3 in the future!

I suspect the bike may have also had a firmware update once I started riding it for a while. You’re right - should not be issues like that right out of the box after the pay and wait.

    Thanks for your VanMoof doc. I had a VanMoof S3 and problems with the lock and the batterie, I had to bring it back to Amsterdam. The same day I received my money back. Still wanna have a VanMoof, but not as a IKEA box. I wanna receive the bike ready for use. Hopefully one day they decide to deliver a ready for use perfect working bike. I will be the first one in line to buy this bike again.

    Did they charge your credit card right away or did they charge you until you got your bike?

      It was charged as soon as I purchased the bike. I thought they should have waited until shipping or at least take a deposit until it ships.

      That was my last ride and it was ok for like half of that. I’m hoping when the bike reset itself maybe that corrected it. No idea what was wrong, it came that way out of the box. Will call VANMOOF if it continues. Thanks for watching!

      I think it had a little bit of a charge, but needed to be plugged in for a while to really get anywhere.

    Hello! Thanks for sharing your experience.. I have 2 questions. I did a test ride from their store in central london and the ride was little rough on cobbled streets, so am wondering without any suspension it’s just a clean road bike or is there’re a way to use this on light trails. Other issue I found was that you can’t chose the power on th go, you have to actually stop, go to app, make change in app and then ride again. Well one can use the boost button ( which I loved) but it would ba amazing if electric power could be changed while on the bike. Some people who have had this bike for much longer than have complained re saddle but that’s probably based on each persons body shape etc

      Hi Niradh and thanks for watching. Your experience was similar to mine; I also rode on some light trails and it’s quite bumpy - definitely a clean road bike! And I love the boost button as well. The gears and pedal support can be customized in the app, but you’re correct that the bike has to be stopped for this.

    Enjoyed my first ride today on my S3. I'd like to hear about other people's experience with the automatic gear shift. Mine has been mixed. There is a lot of clunking (also true of any manual gear change). But my issue is that the bike doesn't seem to move smoothly up the gears, and seems to change up and down involuntarily, as though not quite sure what gear to be in. How does the system work? When I slow right down, it seems to understand that I will want to be in a lower gear to accelerate away again from the low speed. But as I speed up, it does not move smoothly up from gear to gear. There is a lot of noise, and missed beats on the pedals. Have others experienced this? Is there a workaround?

      Bill, I experienced that when I first began riding and still do from time to time. What has helped me is manually adjusting the gear shift parameters inside the app. Especially if you are in especially hilly or flat terrain. You can also add manual parameters, which may help ease the transitions.

    I had fun test riding one and found the saddle was awful and the gears were clunky at times, in the UK the bikes are restricted to 15mph so that's slower than my unassisted pashley bike, still considering it though and hope to get a few more test rides in before the pop up shop closes.

    The sitting position on your bicycle is probably wrong. Your feet need idd to be different on the pedals. Probably you're also not having the right position on the bike with your bicycle saddle. Watch it on youtube.

    I bought this bike last summer and returned it because it had technical issues that they could not fix locally. Because of the proprietary technology, you can’t bring it to a local repair shop. Their promised maintenance service was not available, though they had it specifically advertised for my area (in Europe). Customer response time was several weeks per email (though always very friendly). The bike needed to be sent back to The Netherlands for repair. Until today I am still waiting for my full refund. It is a very cool bike and I was very much looking forward to it but unfortunately the company is too much focused on selling bikes and celebrating themselves rather than investing into getting the kinks out of the bikes (which are normal) and into a decent customer service. My conclusion: If you are in Europe: Think very very hard before buying this bike and be aware that you may not be able to use it for stretches of several weeks when it is in the shop. If you live outside of Europe: Don’t think about it at all!

    Got mine yesterday and had to leave it today already at the Amsterdam Brandstore as a couple of times the gear did not shift up. There are some issues around that I am sure VanMoof will solve eventually

      I test rode one in the UK and found the seat awful, like sitting on a plank with a small sponge on top, if I buy I will have to change the seat tube so I can fit a brooks saddle

    Honest Vid..... I myself have a 2020 Rad Rover which is like a Hummer compared to the Vanmoof....But I love the elegant, minimalist look of these Vanmoof offerings as much as the "thick" aesthetic of my Fat tire ride.....They seem to be very customer service oriented (did you consider the Theft/Recovery package?) so I hope you can sort out your issues quickly.....enjoy the ride !!

      Thanks for watching! The Vanmoof has such a great look, I still cannot get over how great it looks. I did not consider the Theft/Recovery package because I felt the price was too steep. My issue seems to have resolved itself; I think the hard reset the bike did when I was riding took care of that thankfully. I plan to do an update video next week about how I feel about it after riding for a couple weeks.

    It may be some kind of issue with the kiklock sensor, i heard in another video of une kiklock not moving all the way out that may create issue with the lock: the bike automatically locks when it detects that the kiklock is engaged so if it sits in a false position if mai trip the sensor.

    Can you compare this to the DC Capital Bikeshare e-bikes because I, too, have ridden those and was looking into the VanMoof.

      These are far more customizable than the Capital Bikeshare ebikes. I’ve had mine on 3/4 electric pedal support and it requires more strength to move than the Capital Bikeshare on that setting, but I haven’t tried at 4/4 power yet. The power boost with the Vanmoof does give you much more power than the Bikeshare ebikes. The Vanmoof looks 10 times better than those bikes as well. And, if you utilize Bikeshare much, the Vanmoof will pay for itself over time. Recommend Vanmoof!

    Have the s3 also. 3 sept.
    Don't use much forse on the paddles and use the boost button. Gears are perfect then.
    Also when you bike more everything getting better on the bike.
    Sometimes it takes time to connect the bike and the phone.
    Just use the simple code on the left bell button.
    If you still have problems ask vanmoof for a update.
    I think there is no better bike for that price.

      I’m 6’0”. The bike is awesome to ride. Smooth ride on the road, bumpy when there are bumps or uneven pavement.

    In fact, 2000 dollars for a pedelec is rather low. It is an ebike in the lower price range.

      I did order the S3 about a week ago.. but... i did cancel it last night haha..
      Im just not sure if i really want it, the bike is cool for sure, but i read that so many people need to send it back 3/4 times to get it fixed.. i dont want that with a 2K euro bike lol..
      But i'm happy to hear you enjoy yours

    Glad I decided not to buy one at least yet.
    My simple cheap rear hub conversion on a old full suspension mountain bike is awesome, no real security though which is the big selling point of this bike.

      Agree the security seems to be the biggest selling point - especially with their Theft add on. I’ll be doing a follow up review next week since the issue has gotten better. Thanks for watching!

    I would contact VanMoof straight away about the lock problem. It may just be something simple to correct, or they will get a bike doctor to fix, so no point causing yourself frustration.
    I have an S3 on order, expected in about one month, so am watching videos to make myself as knowledgable as possible on set-up and use.

    Hopefully you called VanMoof on the lock issue. I also have the S3 here in California and have had no issues the bike runs flawlessly. Everyone stops me and ask what kind of bike is that? It truly is the Tesla of e bikes. Only problem I have now is the wife wants one now😜

      It’s been better since the hard reset the bike did. I also suspect it may have done some firmware update as well. I’m definitely calling them if it happens again. The bike is amazing, I love it! Better save up and get your wife one now. Thanks so much for watching!

    All this smart technology but the bike quickly became a brick. After a month of seemingly good operation, new S3 failed with error 16 battery on a trip in the middle of a remote section. Took forever to get through to support who told me they were very sorry but there was nothing I could do but to get the bike to the SF office. Lost not only our entire trip and dream (SF to LA) a ton of money to get home, not to mention the time lost, stress, and serious dangerous situation because of this bike failure. It also appears to be a common occurance. Can never trust this company. Its so dangerous because it can take you further and then leave you stranded. Do not buy!

      Don’t think it’s a fail if it happens right out of the box. I’m a very tech savvy person - there was an issue with the lock/alarm. If you watch further into the video I explain how it happened the next day. It took the bike resetting itself for the problem to correct. Thanks for the comment, though.
