Lyrics
From the cradle to the grave
Destined to break like the waves
Existence is so threatening
It takes a fierce grace to crack us open
A moment sat with our sentencing
And the light comes flooding in
Oh, the light comes flooding in
When the leaves fall in the spring
May all the beggars be blessed
Like angels with anhedonia
We’re all just doing our best
Repeating ‘there’s nothing left’
That’s why we weed out the wonderers
Maybe there’s virtue in emptiness
But I still drown in distress
When the leaves fall in the spring
With the ravens here to stay
And the doves all flying away
Sedation feels so welcoming
In the subtle space there’s an endless ocean
But the devils sing and it’s deafening
What a world we’re living in
Oh, we’re never listening
When the leaves fall in the spring
I’ve got a lot to lose
But I won’t lie to you
And make believe sincerity
I’m praying for a remedy
Beloved distant blue
One day I’ll die for you
And swim in sweet serenity
‘Cause death is not my enemy

Epitaph Records is an artist-first indie label founded in Los Angeles by Bad Religion guitarist, Brett Gurewitz. Early releases from a variety of punk heavyweights helped launch the 90s punk explosion. Along the way, Epitaph has grown and evolved creatively while sticking to its mission of helping real artists make great recordings on their own terms.

Death is an open door -> Death is not defeat -> Death is not my enemy
they went from all stages of grief in 5 years. and they demonstrated how beautiful it can be made.
th-cam.com/video/wqPb61XTw2c/w-d-xo.html
@@StavrosSideris Thats why the album is called "for those who wish to exist" -- it's about acceptance of loss. Whereas previously he said in lyrics "I wasn't ready for the rapture", now they are ready. They have grown and moved on from grief, and became bigger persons instead of being beaten down by loss. They want to live
In Early Grave (third album: Hollow Crown), it is said "Death is no man's friend".
I really want them to close a concert with this.
I want all of us singing together:
Beloved distant blue
One day I'll die for you
And swim in sweet serenity
Cause death is not my enemy
I want to sing this loud. With them. With all of you.
Perfect
beautiful
Have always wanted a full Memento Mori or The Distant Blue live. Obviously this is the latest addition to the list.
@@Corazair Yeah me too, man. I always felt maybe Memento Mori was a little too intense for them to want to revisit too often. And I get it.
But The Distant Blue would have been really fun to hear live.
That's is the most beautiful idea I've ever read.
"That distant blue, that's me and you
It was from there that we all grew
Framed in space, our first home
All those beating hearts that were made of stone
We were disaster built from flesh and bone"
Beloved distant blue, one day I'll die for you
One of their best songs to me
Favourite song
The reference there is perfect

This made me shed a tear, I couldn't help it. These guys are true artists and I'm forever grateful for their music that helped me and many others to stay on the surface
Glad that you made it through man, and nothing wrong with shedding a tear :')
I sobbed to this song last night, nothing wrong with having a little moment and letting your emotions out 🥲It’s a beautiful track🤍
@@adammarks9582 I'm still learning to let go, keeping everything inside is not good at all, I only realised it now
I´m shedding one right now ;)
@@misfitmaik6213 Keeping everything inside has ruptured vessels in my heart, and mine was born out of a lack and will to understand me. Connecting with anyone now just feels fake and stressed.
One day I'll die for you and swim in sweet serenity cause death is not my enemy ❤
👍👍
Just finished the album. Now I am ready to take on the end of the world
Why because you're so disappointed that nothing else seems so bad? Lol
@@erich1380 no, cause death is not his enemy. He'll greet death as an old friend.
it would be sick if they would make a whole end of the world short film
As sad zzzyu so I.
I'd take your hand and fight to the end as it crumbles away. I too am ready with too much to live for.
I’ve not cried at a song in absolute years but this absolutely shattered me. It felt like someone was begging me to stay alive. I’ve not connected to a song so strongly in a very long time
For me it felt like they have been fighting with death for all these years and now they realised that its not something they have to defeat.
And yeah also shed a tear or two. :)
For me it sounds like someone starting to accept the fact that someone they loved is dead and won’t be coming back.
3:26 Gave me chills... Drop some manly tears on that part
"Death is not my Enemy" is such a badass line.. Perfect for after Meteor
Maybe I'm overthinking, but:
May all the beggars be blessed - (Royal Beggars)
I’ve got a lot to lose - Holy Hell, I’ve got nothing left to lose (Holy Hell)
I’m praying for a remedy - A sickness with no remedy (Gone With the Wind)
Beloved distant blue - That Distant Blue, that's me and you (The Distant Blue)
‘Cause death is not my enemy - Death is an open door (Doomsday) - Death is not defeat
Yeah, I'm overthinking.
There are "some" more,I first wanted to write down the references between Memento mori and Death is not defeat then it spiraled out...here's what I found until today.
imgur.com/a/0a3JsBg
@@adamszerbin5842 That Death is not defeat references to Memento Mori really hit hard...
And I'm glad to see there's someone else doing this too. There's also the reference in Dead Butterflies: "I just wanna live and die in peace" , to Memento Mori: "Just let me live and die in peace".
Little wonder/these colours don’t run - everything is (fucking) fine
Doves are flying away - Dead Butterflies
Excellent catch!
"Like angels with anhedonia." What a fuckin lyric. These dudes are brilliant.
That’s the lyric that stood out to me at first too as well. Absolutely brilliant line.
@@Kroeyn spot on
What's that?
@@mannyblackstar Anhedonia - "inability to feel pleasure."
@@kyyubii0510 thank you
Gotta give it to Architects, they expanded their sound while still keeping the heavier roots, and made a pretty decent album, there are some forgettable tracks on here but overall very solid material. This was a beautiful and sombre way to close this album.
I agree if only a bands like the amity affliction did it like this. They made a new sound but it’s soft as shit and it’s hard to listen to.
@@NimrodFishing1 And then there's whatever asking alexandria did
@@mansonsacidtrip6862 AA are from a town a couple of miles from me, they've always seemed just about the money and the fame, shallow. Maybe Ben matured but honestly I think he's just clawing at staying relevant and not having to join the ratrace.
Can't hold a candle to Architects, imo
@@hhd2415 I always thought Ben seemed like a decent person but I haven't payed attention to them in ages. Danny on the other hand was always completely unlikable.
Hollow crown was like it was meant for this album but was released 10 years before
The final lyrics are the most profound, beautiful and moving I've ever heard.
This is the perfect album closer, especially with all the references to past tracks
The album cover alone screamed that sentiment.
I commented it in another song, but I must do that on this one too. The Searle brothers definitely has some blessed thing in they blood. Dan is fcking killing in lyrics, what a masterpiece!
that's true!
This and DEAD BUTTERFLIES made me cry. And the lines are so similar: With the ravens here to stay
And the doves all flying away-> All the doves have flown away...Cause the Ravens are here to stay.
I love this song, this album, the Band and I can't understand the hate.
It's just the idiotic metal core elitists hating on them. This was a beautiful album after holy hell.
For me its kind of their "first" album since they closed the trilogy with holy hell. Now they are searching for something new, something their own. I think compering this to their older stuff is pointless. People should enjoy new journey.
@@rishinandan5562 You're absolutely right
@@unknownzero67 That's what I mean. And it's the Architects' boys decision what kind of music they make, not the fan's decision.
It's a cope for people that can't accept the truth
This band is one that I am the most proud of.
"Beloved distant blue
One day I’ll die for you
And swim in sweet serenity
‘Cause death is not my enemy"
And then I sincerely cried and sing along loudly
There's one thing we all can agree this album was perfectly balance between heavy and soft songs and that was awesome
Its also conceptually a masterpiece. They took the metaphor in the distant blue and made a whole album out of it.
Wont do a deep dive of it but thats why theres an astronaut in a church.
@@bradleywilliams1323 would be intersting to hear more of the metaphor :)
@@Antizokker in the song the distant blue hes on the moon. Looking at the earth(the distant blue) and he talks about it being our first home, our problems, religion etc.
In this whole album its about his return to earth and how all that he sang about before is happening and has happened. Its a warning for us. He now doesnt fear death because then all thats come about will finally cease and he/we will be at peace.
Thats the short and sweet version of what i derive from their past songs and now this album.
@@bradleywilliams1323 wow thanks so much for the explanation! I have read that Tom came up with the idea of Distant Blue and that makes it even more sad
@@bradleywilliams1323 thanks so much mate. I thought I understood it but you just made me really understand it. I appreciate you my friend
Unbeliever
The Distant Blue
Memento Mori
A Wasted Hymn
Dying Is Absolutely Safe
This beloved band have concluded with thought-provoking, powerfully moving songs for five albums straight. The lyrics change you, for the better.
💙
Unbeliever was the song that truly defined Daybreaker
Pretty good album closer I would say. This experimentation they want to go for really works in this song.
Yeah, if they made the rest of the album with this much emotion and surreality it would've been a banger. This song bumps it to a 6/10 for me.
@@machomaniac4512 I agree! Some of the songs on this album just didn't feel like Architects for me, though they weren't bad by any means, just didn't think they were anything special. Out of all of the songs, probably this, and especially Discourse Is Dead are my favorites from the new album.
@@acecrusher0288 yeah dude. I absolutely love architects, but this album is sub par for them. Impertinence was my favorite. Not a bad album, just not as good as it could be.
This is one of those songs that you can just sing along to on the first listen
Might be one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. I’m a soulless, emotionless piece of shit but I legitimately had tears.
After listening to this album for 1hr 10 min. I found many good and heavy stuff. But I didn't know I will get this masterpiece at last.❤️
Incredible song. It's hard to describe the existential angst that this stirs yet calms simultaneously.
This is probably my favourite song on the album. I’m a huge sucker for emotional ballads
"Beloved distant blue
One day I'll die for you
And swim in sweet serenity
'Cause death is not my enemy"
This is so hard
Meaning of this please
Imagine this as a farewell song on a funeral
their album-closing song in last 3 albums would be a decent playlist on a funeral
i can't stop crying and you just say the thing like this. thanks, i'm in the middle of an ocean rn
@@yourfriend2457 sorry, wasn't my intention with my comment to make you cry😅
@@babbedeggel1817 FILTHY LIAR 😅
I’ll make sure it’s played at mine
Holy fucking shit! This was so good, it gave me the chills.
This track just hits the soul . . .
This is definitely a big change in Architects songs! But it is so beautiful!
Been a fan since All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us. This band just keeps getting better with each release!
May all the beggers be blessed. We are all doing our best.
Masterpiece, this is how you close an album.
this song being the last one on the record just hits different if you listened to it from start to end
My favorite song of all time
never fail to end an album with a message
This song is absolutely beautiful
This one is so fucking beautiful. Wow. Best way to end an album.
This is the song I've been the most impatient to hear. Not desapointed !
Like the direction where these guys are going in, loved what they where before, and will surely enjoy what they will end up being in the future
Honestly this is helping me heal since my sons passing on May 16th 2020 he was 25 years old.
The feels on this track reminds me of The Little Things Give You Away and The Messenger by Linkin Park, love it
Duuuuuuuude......
... another piece of heart given to the world ... every word, every moment, every breath ... I know, I'm sure, Tom is proud of all of you guys ... proud of all of you...
That ending part. Just Wow. Lyrics, instrumental, everything is so emotional, I am literally crying. After all of the album being so much not like those before it and talking about different things bringing back the theme of death is just...I don't know, the feels are real.
This album is amazing and this song finishes it beautifully.
Listening to this while I stare at the sunrise. Wont lie... The vibe gave me chills.
Architects always close the album with the most beautiful and emotional tracks that make me sad that the album is over. But out of Memento Mori, A Wasted Hymn, Unbeliever, this is my favorite one.
3:12 gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. Amazing way to conclude the album, absolutely incredible
This song is like that scent that takes me back to a room that I don't wanna be in. Reminds me of the bad days in my life, regardless of that, this is a fantastic song!
This song really fit the ending of my journey trough the album today, a beautiful closure indeed.
Finally listened to the new album today for the first time.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
This song is beautiful
It is very breathtaking. All final tracks demonstrate the maximum atmosphere of the songs. This composition completes the album perfectly!
After listening to this song probably 15+ times, its grown on me more and more. I've now come to realise its a masterpiece. Well done Dan, its perfect.
Wow, I broke down in tears when this started playing while taking a shower such a beatiful song🤘😭🤘. Full of defeat and hope at the same time
The relatable nature of this is crazy. This is more than music, man. Wow. ❤😭
this song makes me cry every single time. i want these lyrics tattooed on my soul honestly
Definitely a fantastic way to end an album.
Very much enjoyed the album. Sure it's not like their previous material, but I think it's been one hell of a journey for fans of this band to watch them grow through all the adversities
Beautiful
I loooove this song
So much love this album
Just finished the album, and I truly feel as if I've experienced something. A work of art shown to me for the first time is the closest that I can come to describing it. Beautiful work, Architects, beautiful.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH!!!!!!!!
Also, this song is BEAUTIFUL!!!
The vocals remind me of Hollow Crown, which is one of my favourite songs... This somehow feels like Part II... with their new sounding twist.
"There must be an easier way to release these feelings" 😭
I just love this song.
best band in the world
Thanks you for that album. The last song just made me cry. 9,5/10 for the whole LP.
Damn. Might be the best song of the album for me!
This is beautiful
Wow!!! Every song is incredible!
Tears started at the beginning I dont know why :)
Beautiful.
One of the most impactful songs that i have ever heard, thanks for everything!
Totally in love with this album
This song literally touches your soul.
i absolutely love this song
What an amazing song.
Beloved distant blue
One day I’ll die for you
And swim in sweet serenity
‘Cause death is not my enemy
When that band started close to the end, it gave me goosebumps. It’s like the heavens opened up and let me see what was inside. Inside, I saw my uncle, smiling down at me as the song played. What a beautiful song.
This one grew on me, and it grew quick. Absolutely beautiful.
finally out, let-s enjoy every second of it!
Literally one of the “Greatest” songs I’ve ever heard!
I want this at my funeral! Xx
Absolute masterpiece
If dying is safe i am already dead, and should be in my heaven... I should be flying around like angels, or superman, lifting unimaginable weights, changing the world with my wishes, waking up to a new reality every day. Enjoying reality for what it can be with creativity.
This album, can't stop listening to it. And this is a perfect closer
I´ve always felt misunderstood except with music. I want this song to be heard at my funeral soon.
THNX TO ARCHITECTS FOR ALL THE SONGS IN THIS ALBUM
I got the album early and this was the first song to ever make me cry
Edit: the reason it did because I've only recently come to grips with the fact that death shouldn't be feared and the song just hit me weirdly in the emotions, I only shedded like 5 tears lol
EVER??? Sounds like a perfect life!
This song right here. This is the one that made you cry first? Are you like 11 because that would make sense.

What an album, guys! Y'all outdid yourselves on this one. Very good.
Very beautiful
Fun fact for everyone! The outro drums were recorded by Liam Kearley of Black Peaks probably one of the best rock bands to come out the uk in years. Though those drums don’t display his magnificent skills you should all give them a listen as they’re UNBELIEVABLY GOOD
This is absolutely beautiful what a way to end the album
God I love this band with all my heart.
That exactly what I would love to listen to from kings, from Architects. That’s a hit. The soul. The destination...
This song needs more attention!
Now that is how you end an album! Amazing!
He goes from death being Doomsday on the last record to acceptance on this song. This is incredible
I got chills
Best album of the year
So emotional. Cried hard. Wow.
