- Kyoto during the cherry blossom season is packed with tourists, and hotels are expensive and difficult to book. I chose The Pocket Hotel Kyoto Shijo Karasuma, which is conveniently located near Nishiki Market and offers easy access to transportation. Although the rooms are not spacious and do not have private bathrooms, you won't be spending much time indoors when you're in Kyoto anyway. The hotel facilities are simple but meet the needs of travelers, and each room has an individual room key for added security. Another advantage of staying here is that it's close to Nishiki Market. In the morning, you can stroll through Nishiki Market and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine without the crowds. Famous sights such as Gion and Yasaka Shrine are also within walking distance. I highly recommend The Pocket Hotel Kyoto Shijo Karasuma to independent travelers planning to visit Kyoto.
