i mostly read solo books (? idk what to call them haha) in 2021 and read so many amazing ones, but i also finally read the shadow and bone / six of crows books too and absolutely loved them! just started reading king of scars too

I agree with you on not wanting a Six of Crows book 3. The duology is so perfect and tied up and I'm happy to leave it where it is. I wouldn't mind them taking the story a little further in the show though.

I just finished chapter 1.. ehh idk I’ve been putting it off for so long too literally read chapter 1 again and again bc of how many times I stopped and came back to it due to the hype
@@Star-mn7gr Yeah, chapter 1 is a weird chapter but I will say that the person you follow in chapter 1 you literally NEVER see again. It's really just a plot explanation chapter but the rest of the book is way better. It's not for everyone of course, but I really enjoyed it.

Our Violent Ends was SO good! Its even better then the first one! The author Chloe Gong just announced there is going to be a spinoff duology called Foul Lady Fortune which comes out in Septemeber and will be following Rosoland, who becomes a spy for her country and has to pretend to be married to her enemy for an undercover assighnment. I am so excited, it sounds amazing!

So happy to hear someone talking 'bout Daughter of Smoke and Bone again! It's such a unique and entertaining series and yet somehow so underrated. The twists made me go insane and I haven't been that invested in side characters lines like ever. Hope more people will give it a try.
Also, is it just me or Sky in the Deep kinda have that same vibe? Picked it up after this video and it's really good so far!
I can't find the original covers *anywhere* unless I shell out an insane amount of money and it's maddening. I dislike the new covers so much 🙄 I want to read them again!

I'm so glad you mentioned Daughter of Smoke and Bone! It's one of my all time fave YA series, its unreal how its flown under the radar for so long - I think it blew up, online at least, prior to booktube really becoming a thing. It's also one of like three books that I've ever given 5 stars on goodreads. Can not recommend it enough! x

My all time favourite fantasy book
I was just peeling myself from my desk after studying and I wanted to watch/listen to one of your videos as I got ready to wind down. I find them familiar, gentle, comforting, and inspiring. And then I saw you had posted this 20 mins ago!! I felt so happy. I love little coincidences like this. I’ve had them a few times you/your videos. if you haven’t read it yet, I would recommend reading Six Crimson Cranes ! it’s a fantasy book which has asian fairy tales woven into it and overall asian culture (I think specifically chinese?) it’s about a princess who has to endure a powerful curse, there’s romance, action, and it’s really a great read, it’s a duology and the second book is coming out this year :)

My brother (who took until his adult years to willingly hug me) got so excited when I started reading his copy of Mistborn that he took me straight to the bookstore and bought me the trilogy in a brand new box set.
The Poppy War!!! I’m surprised I’m not seeing anyone recommend this in the top comments, I think you’ll really love it. It’s full of action and the relationships are so complicated but good. Please give it a try!

Yes, Gilded Wolves! I wish it was more popular. I only started the third book, but the first two I gave 5 stars and I really loved them. Although it took me a bit to finish them, I felt like it was the right move because I needed that time to process all the information and let that sink in. Also, I kinda didn't want to rush and just savor it. The research, the mysteries, clues, characters, dialogue, it's so perfect!
Omg I love your synopsis of The Wrath and the Dawn 😂😂 and I agree, Rule of Wolves let me down too!!! It felt like I finished two enormous books only to have an unsatisfactory ending :'( I am waiting for Chain of Thorns to come out before binging the whole series!

So I haven’t read the atlas six yet but from my understanding it was originally a self published book and ended up getting picked up by Tor recently and is getting a new version under their publishing company.

I just ordered the “shatter me “ series. I hope I like it. I saw so many people loving it. There was so many books so I just ordered the first 3. If I liked the I am gonna order the rest and also the way you described the sun and the wrath , I really want to read it.

That's so interesting because I actually liked Rule of Wolves more than King of Scars. But I definitely felt like there were a few moments in both books where the story was being pushed in a weird direction.

When you were describing the plot for Fable I was so confused because it sounded familiar but I know I have it on my tbr and haven't read it yet but it finally came to me! Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim also has a girl who is diving for gems to try to save up enough money for freedom, who was also abandoned under unknown circumstances.
Legendborn was my favorite book last year. It's actually how I found your channel. BOTM sent it to me on accident so I was trying to sus out if I should read it or give it away. Chloe gong actually has a new book coming out called Foul Lady Fortune, set a decade later in Shanghai, and the main character for the new series is a minor character from these Violent delights- would you consider reading and reviewing it once it’s out ? I hear it’s more of a spy book rather than a gangster book

I have buy the "daughter of smoke and bone" book, It's awesome! I can't stop reading it, it never gets bored. I order and the second one! Im so excited. The characters are interesting and i really like the conversations and the way which is described, it makes you understand everything. Amazing just amazing.

My fave series of the year is VE Schwab's 'A Darker Shade of Magic' - it is 10/10 all time fave series. You absolutely must read it, it is truly brilliant. Also the 'Carry on' series is really wonderful (I know you don't like the author's other books, but you should give this a go...best enemies to lovers around imo)

I honestly really liked From Blood And Ash but I think that's mainly because it was my second fantasy series that I ever read like a year ago and I didn't mind the repetitiveness then, now that I think back on it it was really repetitive but I'm so excited for the last one because the 3rd one broke my heart
If you liked the magic system in Gilded Wolves, it sounds like the systems in Charlie N. Holmberg's series, The Paper Magician. That series and her Spellbreaker duology were two of my favorite series reads last year. The magic systems are just so cool.

I just started the six of Crows books. I finished the first book earlier today and already started the second.
I usually don't read a lot of (ya) fantasy since a lot of the books I've read in the genre have kinda let me down but Six of Crows is actually making me want to pick up more ya fantasy this year😇

I absolutely LOVED Shatter Me. I wouldn’t quite compare it to other dystopians because it doesn’t really have an organized society with “factions”. I saw it basically as a dictatorship? Either way, you had an interesting take! I only read the first 3, and that was when they were coming out back in the day. Maybe if i tried reading them today, I’d have a different opinion!
Also, thanks for your words on Chain of Gold! I bought it when it came out because i love Clare’s Shadowhunters, but i went on a reading hiatus. Good to know that one should be safe to return to! :)

Hi Cari! Some YA books that I would recommandeer are: Ash princess (trilogy), Red Queen (4 books), Defy the night (One book is currently out, a second is going to be released later this year. It’s ritten by the same author as ‘a curse so dark and lonely’ but way better in my opinion) and To kill a kingdom (1 book) I don’t know if you’ve read any these already but if you haven’t I would highly recommend them.
I’m currently reading Caraval and completely agree with how fun and whimsical the descriptions of the world and charactersare! Another series I read this month and enjoyed is The Bone Witch Trilogy! Check it out if you haven’t already, it’s got a lot packed into three books!

My all time favorite fantasy series are the Riyria Revelations by Michael Sullivan, The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron, and The Keepers trilogy by David Dalglish.

Found this video a bit late, but the bit about you talking about the plot of The Atlas Six jolted me out of my spreadsheet editing - the plot sounds almost exactly like the plot of Rachel Caine's Ink and Bone which was released in 2015.. new recruits enlisted to work for the library of Alexandria which wasn't actually destroyed to keep the knowledge out of the hands of the masses.... Interesting.

Hi Cari ✨ I've seen in your last video that you like time travel and since you also like young adults fantasy I'm sure this book trilogy could be for you. I don't recall you talking about it in any of your video so maybe you haven't read it even though it was quite popular when it came out (but the writer is German so maybe it's not that well known in the American book community). Anyway I remember reading it and loving it, in my opinion they are a fast read as well so maybe try and check them out if you have time. I'll insert here the Wikipedia description: "The Ruby Red Trilogy is a series of three young adult fantasy novels by German writer Kerdtin Gier. The three books are: Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green. [...] The series follows the story of Gwendolyn Shepherd, a time-traveling girl living in contemporary London."

Also, I've read Piranesi by Susanna Clarke last week. I don't know if you have read it yet. It's an adult fantasy, no romance just vibes, but while reading it I constlaty thought "Cari would love this". I went in knowing nothing and I think that's the best way to read it, it's just one book and it's about 270 pages.

Yes! I loved the trilogy! My friends and I were obsessed with the books when we were teenagers. The movies are good too, although the deviate from the plot of the books quite a bit.

i think you put it perfectly, i started the shatter me series when i was a freshmen in high school and i loved it, my roommate recently wanted now 23 year old me to read her favorite series when she was in high school Hush Hush and it just felt too young
