Mountain Creek: Sojourn Double (300 fpm Special)

  • This Partek Double is the newest lift at Mountain Creek built in 2012. It runs from midway up South Peak to the top of Granite Peak to connect the two sides of the resort. It replaced a 1971 Borvig Double that was removed without replacement in 2010. The reason for the two year gap in lift service was because they were going to build a connector trail from the top of South to midway up Granite. That was deemed impractical, so the lift was built instead.
    The lift is about 4800 feet long and climbs about 580 vertical feet. The profile is mostly flat with a steep climb at the end. The capacity at full speed is only 780/hr because the lift is only ridden as a connection between the mountains and is never lapped. The design speed is 450 fpm, but it was clearly going much slower during this recording for a ridiculously long 17 minute ride.

    This is a freaking masterpiece....I never thought to film the lift ride over from South to Granite...it's always incredibly long.

    10:05 In summer of 2018 I rode a gondola where a ride in one direction at full speed (4m/s) took about 30 minutes. It was a pretty old one (Habegger, 1978), but I liked it. In 2019 it was replaced by a D-Line which can go up to 6,5m/s, at full speed a ride now takes about 19 minutes. It is the Männlichenbahn in Switzerland. Total length: 6,2km, 2 stages

    It does not look like there's any room to maneuver at the top. How the heck do you get off the lift when there is no margin for error?

    Jeez, is it too much to ask to have them speed their lifts up??

      I agree. The only lifts that didn't need to be sped up on Friday were Granite and Sugar.

    This is why I think this lift should have the Slide Brook standards. Low capacity, public riding in both directions, and high speed.

      @teddysliftworld 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      One standard it shouldn't have though is the fact that it never runs...

      They don't need to have bi-directional loading on this lift because there's a trail back to South. Oddly enough, it has 50% downhill capacity and space for an unloading ramp at the bottom. The South and Bear lifts have only 25% downhill capacity, and Granite, Triple, and Sugar have none. Cab is of course 100%.

      @@collinparsons3363 huh? It has 0% downhill capacity if it doesnt take anyone downhill. Where are you getting these numbers from?

    Mountain Creek, what's your damn excuse for running it that slow!!??? People want to get to Granite/Vernon and have to sit on a chair for over 18 minutes when it can be quicker if you run it at a good speed. Good Lord!

    • @tenderpawsm473
      @tenderpawsm473 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And it looks like it could be VERY difficult to unload from. Is there any room to maneuver? Sheesh.

      How do you know how fast their lift can run? Do you work on them?

      @@ThatSB It was designed to run 150 fpm faster. Difference is 18.5 minutes and 12.
