Excellent video and you are so right, I have found that at different times of the year, sometimes it is easier and cheaper to stay across the river in Crystal City. Keep up the great videos!
To me the best buy in DC is the Hotel Harrington downtown... at 10th & E Streets, NW, a short walk from the White House, Ford's Theater, and all subway lines. It's old & a little funky but it has a lot of international tourists and everything you need is right there. I love Harry's Restaurant on the first floor. Harriet's Restaurant also on the first floor has a good breakfast. All kinds of cafes and coffee shops are within a block. They have the lowest prices downtown and the convenience can't be beat.
Hi Rob. Me and my friend went to DC last year for the first time. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Greenbelt, Maryland. The hotel had the best customer service I’ve ever seen. They also had a free Shuttle that would take you to and from the Greenbelt metro station. One time the shuttle wasn’t available when we requested it, and the staff paid for us a taxi so we didn’t have to wait. I’ve never seen a hotel staff go out of their way to help customers like they did. Being outside the city we were able to save a lot of money on the hotel price and were able to do a lot more on our trip. Would definitely recommend Holiday Inn Greenbelt, Maryland to anybody!
I'm in Massachusetts & will be in DC soon, & I sent ur video 2 my niece in Texas bc she & some friends will b going 2 DC & I told them 2 check u out 4 a tour! Ur videos r so informative!!
Rob, u have a great channel, lots of info, I watched a bunch of yor videos b4 my trip to DC this past week. I stayed at the Yotel on New Jersey ave. My son and I loved it. Nice clean fun place to stay, it has an underground parking garage, Restraunt, pool ect. We did some sightseeing and saw a Nats game. It was our first time in DC. Can’t wait to go back when hopefully things open back up and we can’t get the full DC experience. Keep up the good work man!
I also had good luck in the Friendship Heights area though a bit farther out. Even Bethesda/Rockville though he is right about higher Metro fares but a $100 or more cheaper for a hotel adds up to a lot of subway fares plus there are a lot of nice places to eat etc... in those areas. My biggest tip would be, use the shoulder seasons and check when big conventions were in town. Lots of rooms that can be very reasonable at off times even in desirable times of year. No cherry blossoms, holidays or big conventions.
Just subscribed to your channel. The last two times I was in DC were when I was still single and traveled with a friend to see some Phillies-Nationals games at Nationals Park. We took the Amtrak Northeast Regional from Philadelphia, stayed at the Comfort Inn in College Park , MD, and took the Metro to the games.
I'll also add in some inner Maryland suburbs: Bethesda and Silver Spring. Both are 30 mins and 20 mins away from downtown, respectively too. Both also have pretty interesting downtown districts of their own too 👍
I agree with you. There is a whole lot going on in those areas other than sight seeing that a vacationer can appreciate. Yes, with traffic, it will be a ways to get to the good stuff in DC but keep in mind, when tourists go sightseeing, they spend most of the day walking around so if your commute is a little longer, it's not that big of a deal
What is best area for older people in their late 60s? They need to be close to the mall and restaurants. I need to cut down on walking as much as possible.
I use to find a hotel in Washington DC but right now I stay in my cousins apartment in Falls Church,VA, downtown silver spring and Comfort inn in Beltsville because I normally take Wmata subway to Washington with my metrocard with a lot of money and my mom works in the FDA
Hey Rob, I’m in the process of getting an internship with the Smithsonian this summer. Do you have any tips for interns? Such as housing options and things to do during free time.
I have the option of staying at the Residence Downton, Capitol or Convention Center. All money being equal, where would you stay? We would like to do the main tourist attractions at the National Mall. Have a 4 year old with us and 2 adults. We prefer to eat at casual restaurants and avoid sit down places or fancy restaurants. We don't mind using public transportation or walking
Got good deals for either The Darcy or the Georgetown Suites. Which one do you suggest? We plan to do a bit of everything and like to walk whilst sightseeing. Love your videos, so informative. Thanks
All Metro stations have elevators and are accessible (in theory). However, I recommend using an app like MetroHero to check for elevator outages before beginning your trip. dcmetrohero.com/
If your home city has a para transit service, you should be able to access the metro para transit service during your visit. This is an excellent option for those with mobility issues of any kind. Check with you home city para transit service for details, as well as with Metro so you are set when you get to DC. Remember metro covers not only DC but deep into both Virginia and Maryland.
Hi Jen - just because a property doesn't appear on the list doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad place to stay. It's extremely difficult to be the judge of "niceness" because everyone has different tastes and preferences and I have personally stayed in very few DC hotels since I live here. The recommendations are based primarily on location, general reputation, and feedback I've gotten from my tour customers over the years. If you're comfortable with a hotel based on its reviews on TripAdvisor, etc. then I would stick with it.
I have a "cheap eats" video in the production schedule but it probably won't be up until mid-summer. In the meantime there are some recommendations in the Beginner's Guide to DC e-book: www.triphacksdc.com/e-book/
Mainly the green suburb feel while still being in DC. i live on veazey street by wisconsin avenue so i can get to school in under 10 mins by walking, and have access to a lot of public transportation like the metro, and bus lines. it also is the highest ground point above sea level in DC which is nice i guess.
A Hilton in laurel an hour away from Washington. Very nice staff, modern and nice. But you have to drive to get to dc though. If you just walk than don’t stay there
Best thing to do is to stay in Pentagon City or go up the hill to Arlington VA! From Arlington go across the Key Bridge to Georgetown and the make your way down to the Mall and the Smithsonian Museums!!! Make sure you ride the DC Tours bus and get a bird's eye view of the city !!! DC has its tourist spots all over town but this beautiful city has several neighborhoods with a style and feel all of their own. You wont Experience scammers as you move farther away from the tourist spots. If it doesn't feel right stop talking to the scammer and they will move on. Enjoy your time, go to the Wharf and go to the National Press Club , and go up embassy row, also Adam's Morgan!!!

I love Crystal City and staying in hotels near DCA. The close proximity to METRORAIL seals the deal for me. Thanks for sharing! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
There is a free trolley in Old Town Alexandria that will take you to and from the King Street Metro Station.
Yes it's quite convenient.

researching!!!! and drinking beers. Thanks Rob for the help
Sure thing! 🍺🍻
Wow I love in DC and I will take a Staycation in my own city. It’s that good and there is so much to see and do. So Much more when I was younger.
I am staying at extended stay near Dulles Expo center Next month

Holidays can yield great rates (sometimes) because convention organizers often avoid bumping their events up against holidays.
I'm from New Orleans i stay in Arlington Virginia I love it..got a goverment job at METRO
Excellent Recommendations. And yes we were staying at SouthWest area with free shuttle and did enjoy DC so much! Thanks Rob for the TipsTricks&Hacks
Happy to hear it worked out!

Thank you for this video. It's really helpful. 💖
You're welcome!
I'll also add in some inner Maryland suburbs: Bethesda and Silver Spring. Both are 30 mins and 20 mins away from downtown, respectively too. Both also have pretty interesting downtown districts of their own too 👍
Not bad choices. Be careful on the weekends because Red Line track work can really throw a wrench into things.

bethesda is a really busy town. however, the bethesda and medical center stops are accessible for getting into downtown d.c.
What is best area for older people in their late 60s? They need to be close to the mall and restaurants. I need to cut down on walking as much as possible.
Is everything in downtown within walking distance? No more than 3-4miles
What hotel do you recommend close to American Univ in DC?
Do u hav availability for private tour on April 14 afternoon? Closer to evening? Love your videos!!!!
The next private tour availability I have isn't til April 23rd. Sorry! These are my recommended local tour companies: www.triphacksdc.com/localtours
Hello Victoria nice to meet you.

What about the hotel in Silver spring
@@einsteindarwin8756 the best hotel in Silver Spring is the Hampton inn or home wood suites located downtown.
Thanks, dude. Awesome info. Appreciate.
No problem!
great video as always is logan circle downtown or you just didn't recommend it .

Hey Rob, I’m in the process of getting an internship with the Smithsonian this summer. Do you have any tips for interns? Such as housing options and things to do during free time.
Stay in intern housing at one of the universities. Trying to find housing on your own in DC's tight rental market is a nightmare.
Great video! Please add some hotels that are pet friendly. I stayed at the Monaco in Alexandria with my cat. Nice hotel! Do you have any suggestions?
Kimpton hotels are pet friendly. I have 5 of them in the guide. Lots of options to choose from.
I’ve been to Washington DC in March of this year! I like to stay at the JW Marriott. It’s probably obvious of why I stayed there.
I’m there next month; staying at Courtyard by Marriott Downtown/Conv. Center
Nice. Have fun.
This is soooo helpful
Thanks!
Very helpful

The downtown one is probably the best located of those 3.
@@TripHacksDC Thanks! Love your channel!

I would personally pick the Darcy. If you really want to stay in Georgetown then pick Georgetown Suites. Can't really go wrong with either.
Thank you so much. Looking forward to seeing your new videos.
Hi nice to meet you.
I will be in Washington D.C. in March 2023 for a funeral at Arlington cemetery. Where to stay? Tips
How is transportation for a person in a wheelchair. Especially interested in subway access.

You didn’t mention State Plaza Hotel. I know the location is good but do you know if the hotel is nice?
Hi Jen - just because a property doesn't appear on the list doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad place to stay. Can you do a video on good places to eat lunch that aren’t expensive?
I have a "cheap eats" video in the production schedule but it probably won't be up until mid-summer. In the meantime there are some recommendations in the Beginner's Guide to DC e-book: www.triphacksdc.com/e-book/
Hi Jen. I am staying at State Plaza when I visit D.C. in December. Did you stay there? If so, how did you like it?
Hello Jen nice to meet you here.
Hello Rob. Excellent videos! I'm planning a family trip to DC and was wandering if you have any recommendations for good Bed&Breakfast places to stay.
I don't have any specific B&B recommendations, sorry.
This is no joke, I don't think most DC locals even know what bed and breakfast is.
It's not really common in major cities.
What hotel would you recommend if I wanted to be close to American University?
Smething on the western side of the red line. There are not really any hotels right near American U.
im renting a car for the trip, are there places to park at each location?
Check out th-cam.com/video/AKHFi_lMrvg/w-d-xo.html
Honestly even though there are barely any hotels i really like the tenleytown area.
What do you like about Tenleytown?
Mainly the green suburb feel while still being in DC. i live on veazey street by wisconsin avenue so i can get to school in under 10 mins by walking, and have access to a lot of public transportation like the metro, and bus lines. it also is the highest ground point above sea level in DC which is nice i guess.
U da man Rob!!
Do you have any experience or reviews for the “cherry Hill park” campground ?
I've never stayed there but have had customers who did. Everyone seems to have liked it.
I'll be needing a hotel with parking. Thinking Crystal City since downtown is so difficult to find parking.
All hotels have parking, it just isn't free.
POD in Chinatown, Loved it!
Nice. What did you like about it?
Trip Hacks DC conveniently located, lots of food and drink options only a few feet away. And friendly service.
It's definitely an excellent location!
Thinking about staying here! Is parking going to be a problem? Thanks
What hotels are on the red line?
tell me what the best hotels that are the closest to the amtrack station
www.triphacksdc.com/hotels
This was a great video! I always wondered where to stay when going to DC.
Glad to hear you found it helpful!
What was the hotel that served the Chrystal City metro? I stayed there once
Marriott is connected to the underground. Actually, two of them.
Boat Lover it isn’t the underground it is the metro
I couchsurf where I can find a great host
Completely agree!
Nice! 👏
Any thoughts on staying in Pentagon City...?
It's more or less the same experience you'll get as staying in Crystal City.
Pentagon City is fine. Several restaurants and a mall right there, just a couple Metro stops into DC. Good choice for the right price for sure.
Awesome. Thank you both!!
What about National Harbor?
I don't recommend National Harbor. It's far and not Metro accessible.
Only thing unique about National Harbor is MGM casino.
But why come to DC on vacation to gamble?
Much better places to vacation if that's your thing.
How is the Silver Spring area in Washington DC?
It's fine as long as you're close to Metro. The suburbs in Virginia are closer to the sites than the suburbs in Maryland.
A Hilton in laurel an hour away from Washington. Very nice staff, modern and nice. But you have to drive to get to dc though. If you just walk than don’t stay there
You can take the MARC train from Laurel, I would stay closer.
Anyone ever stay at the Residence Inn by Marriott Washington Capitol Hill/Navy Yard?
It is on the recommended hotels list. www.triphacksdc.com/hotels
