    I'd love to have a TVR with an AJP8, if only because that's the sound they used for the BMW M3 GTR in NFS. That and having a sportscar from my hometown is pretty nifty. Wish they still made cars there tbh. TVR was the best part of Blackpool. Definitely the most productive thing we contributed to in the country.

    My mate Lofty built the chassis for that car (unless it's new.) Him and his brother were the only lads at TVR who built that chassis at the time.

      Thanks Rob, nice to hear about a bit of history on the car. The car does need a chassis refurbishment unfortunately so once we move, we will be looking into getting a 2 post lift to assist with this, but we will see.

      @@RobsCars I imagine it's probably not the best. The 90s were a wild time in Blackpool. I heard a rumour of a Tuscan with a dead mouse somewhere in the spaceframe....I saw another Cerbera on Wheeler Dealers, and they were hoping they wouldn't need a new chassis. I knew they would. Lofty was a heck of a welder, though. 👍

    Sounds like a happy AJP8. I'm quite surprised at some of the comments from camry drivers in the comments lol. As far as British sports cars go, I always thought of the cerb as quite reliable. I made a 4.2 sing every time I drove it, and it ran like a clock.

    • @RobsCars
      @RobsCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Merv, she has been temperamental on occasion although usually non TVR derived parts that fail! Ha! Mechanically the AJP8 is a strong engine as you say, and can take serious abuse contrary to the Ney Sayers; race engine after all! 💪
      That's said I am still not going to abuse it and if I do it's usually for a few minutes rather than like racing it around a track day for example and I always do a cool down for at least a mile before getting home and turning it off. I do try to look after it and hope this will help with it's longevity.
      Yeh, they're like sowing machines when they're on tick over. 😁
      The pensioner comment was actually my best friend being a p**** 😆 but as you know you can get into big trouble in a Cerb very quickly especially in the wet.
      Thanks for your comment, what happened to your Cerb do you still have it? Cheers R

      @@RobsCars LoL, I'm glad that was your mate. Sometimes forget how much the Brits love their banter. :D
      I think a bit of mechanical sympathy goes a long way. And I hope you have many happy miles in yours. I can't leave things alone, so if I got hold of one today, I'd be hooking it up to a modern aftermarket ECU and having a good play with it.
      The 4.2 I spent some time in was a company car. For the last few years of the Wheeler ownership era, TVR was establishing a wider distribution network. And I took on the challenge of Service and Warranty manager in Oceania. We had just the one Cerb, brought in as a demo/press car and for the purposes of certifying compliance. It's safe to say that thing was absolutely put through it's paces over and over. Track days, Hill-climbs, etc. I was responsible for keeping it in mint cond and establishing a network of trusted service techs. It's reliability surprised everyone.. We pretty much just serviced it and drove the tires off it. Gosh it was beautiful, British racing green with a doe hide and forest green interior.
      Personally I still rate it as the best supercar interior ever, with it's only real competition being a Pagani. The drivers cockpit created by the arched interface between dash and center console. The gauge clusters and ventilation around the wheel. The full 6 point integrated roll cage wrapped in leather bolsters. Bloody hell, I'm sitting here talking myself into trying to find one. lol.

      @@M3rVsT4H Haha that's awesome, yeh I can imagine they can be abused, as long as they have someone fastidious in servicing it. 👌
      They're totally bonkers cars. I took my wife out the other week and my foot just kept going further and further to the floor, revs climbing up through the gears. It is unrelenting and feels like it's going to take off, especially with the bonnet flapping the higher the speed increases. 😆 I think I put my air dam / splitter around the wrong way which is supposed to mitigate the bonnet flap. Hit at least 150"kph" 😉😉 in not much space at all... This is the first car that I scare my wife it until she turns white. 😀😂
      I want to get a new set of tyres so I may find somewhere where I can get rid of these ones. 🍩💨💨💨💨💨💨 I'll try an film it. 🤪

    Do these really have all the maintenance problems i hear about? Or is it more people dont know how to maintain their cars?

    • @RobsCars
      @RobsCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, it is a handmade car, so this in itself causes issues. However, the way you have to look at these cars is as a toy. It will potentially let you down, but if it is pampered by being garaged and has regular maintenance then they shouldn't be any worse than any Ferrari, Aston Martin etc of the same era and could potentially be a very reliable car. In fact I would say those mentioned were worse and cost far more to run. This said these aren't exactly cheap to run either! But that stigma only gets tarred with TVR "because it's a kit car" ha! How far from the truth that is.... I have had oil hoses perishing, oil cooler exploding, Starter motor issues and many others but it's never left me by the side of the road except after I took it to a very expensive TVR 'Specialist' who buggered it up!
      But if you think about it, it is mostly age related not the cars fault. JC talks BS about TVR, yes some weren't particularly well finished but these were usually early cars. If you look at a Cerbera from late 98' and onwards they were considered to be the best. Earlier ones have their problems but this said they would have likely been sorted by now with engine rebuilds etc. Other things to note are the chassis on these, they rot.. so get one that has recently had this work done even if it is in the £30k+ bracket. It will save you in the long run, as long as you keep up the maintenance as mentioned above. I am facing a huge bill with mine as I need to get the body off to refurbish the chassis, but while I am at it the engine will be refreshed, all the fuel lines, brake lines, suspension etc will be overhauled. But coming back to your question, it depends on what you are willing to throw at it to keep it on the road, could be money, your time with your spanners etc. If you can do those it should be an enjoyable experience. But if you have neither of those things get a 911. It won't be anywhere near as fun though and a lot slower for the same money. Pound for pound the Cerbera will embarrass newer supercars and that's why us owners love them and want to be buried in them when we die! 😂 hopefully not by crashing though! 🫣 Rule is gonin with your eyes open! 👍

      They’re no worse than any other car tbh. I’ve had one for 2 years, I’ve only had to fix things that I wanted to fix like an indicator return spring that only worked 75%, window felt runners needed replacing and setting the bonnet locks perfectly.I enjoy tinkering with it and drive it all the time. They’re easy to work on and you don’t need a computer to fix them. They get lots of attention and look beautiful, you could park next to any super car and they steal the show.

      3 years of ownership and it still runs. Perhaps look at my other videos I am not exactly gentle on it. Perhaps the bad reputation comes from people who don't understand these cars or have deep enough pockets. ☺️ So far it's been brilliant so all I can say is eff you and get a life. 🙂
