If you’ve ever been in a taxi in Rome, you know what it’s like to see your life flash before your eyes. Honestly the scariest driving I’ve ever seen. Been here less than 24 hours, been in 3 taxis. Every driver was driving waaaaay to fast, braking super late, no turn signals, driving over road markings and between lanes, disregarding crossings with people actively walking across, merging when there’s no space, overtaking on blind corners and just generally inpatient and angry. Almost completely t boned a car which pulled out of a side street without looking and our taxi driver was speeding and not paying attention. Both drivers at fault but our driver wasn’t looking straight so only saw the car pull out last second and slammed the brakes and swerved. 10 seconds later slams the brakes again almost knocking over a young child and moth crossing the road at a crossing. Honestly such a scary experience.
Nothing particularly dangerous or messy. Only big traffic. You only must not be scared by scooters and bikes: they wil avoid you. Just walk your way. And be cautious about pedestrians: if you hit one pedestrian you will be considered guilty, always (different from London when cars and buses will hit you on purpose if you cross the road wrongly)
I'm a daily driver in NYC, and Italian driving is on another level of insane lol. Being from NY made it a little easier, but Italy was easily the most difficult driving experience I've had to date. Video doesn't do it justice, you have to actually do it to understand.
Drove into Rome by motorway, 50m after the Welcome to Rome sign, I witnessed a Smart car crashing into a car in front and flying back 5 meters. Both came out, smart front end completely smashed, other car only dented, both got back into their cars and drove off casually. I was gobsmacked.
Yeah bro Rome is insane, but oh boy once I went to Naples as the previous comment said and it's on another level. That being said we are the best at traffic jam and impossible driving lol
I'm from Rome, and you're so rightl! And I tell you that also italians from other cities in our country go mad in Rome's traffic.. So..don't worry..you're not alone!! I hope you like my beautiful city, anyway..
I was in Rome a few days a go. Interestingly, I did not see aggression among the drivers. They drive like crazy but they are calm. I love your city. Saluti dalla Polonia e congratulazioni per aver vinto il calcio.
I am really having a headache trying to figure out how to return a rental car to Roma Termini without going thru ZTLs roads. I’ve been studying for weeks now but I’m not understanding why it would show that my way from AutoStrata to Via Giovanni Giolitti is not ZTL covered BUT when I do Google Maps virtually I do see them almost everywhere. do have have any suggestions for me?
@@Maringkai70 if you give me your email Andress I can send you the official ZTL map from Rome municipality office. It's very clear. I live in Rome and I've never understood why does Google Maps show such a big area.
To everyone poo-poohing this video, go try to drive around Rome, especially in the dark as in at night, and then come back and report on the experience. It just took me 2 hours to go 11 km across town and I had planned out my route and "knew where I was going". Didn't quite go as planned.....
@ulimatum Obviously I did something wrong, like miss the street I was supposed to turn into and then trying to get back to where I'd made the mistake turned into a nightmare. @Aafif Sabu Yes, it's true. I was not pleased!
Overall Rome is the most difficult city to drive in, also due to the extremely fast and aggressive driving style of the locals... But also for the city needs new roads, parking lots and neighborhoods I think pretty much everybody living there agrees
Rome has also some of the worst numbers of road accidents and road kills...being a pedestrian is extremely angerous there, intersections are awful, pedestrain crossing are sometimes non-existant and even the paint of the zebra crossing is missing. Cars are parked everywhere, on sidewalks and on zebra crossing as well and you can easily get run over by cars daily!
@@aafifsabu627 bro i live in rome, in an always jammed area, as the street near my house brings you from the highways to the vatican (i m 800 mt from san peter) and it takes like 20 min to make it from the vatican to my house during the rush hours (800 mt i repeat). There is an higway called "tangenziale" it is litterally always jammed, if you check on maps it is black traffic from 7 am to 8 pm 😂. In rome we know that moving through the city is difficult especially with the car, we know that 10km in rome are like 50km in every other place (stress level at the maximum) i think rome and naples are the worst cities in europe to drive.
I've been driving in Rome and after you get used to the Italian traffic flow, it is relatively chill. It looks chaotic at first, but there is a system to it that everybody respects, and all the drivers are really attentive.
To really enjoy the atmosphere of Rome you should rent a scooter(moped) small engine (50cc/125cc) and drive by night, when there's little to no traffic. When in Rome...do as the Romans do 😜
Great attempt to show the craziness. This video does not do justice to the madness, though! It was like being in a circus ring! I knew it was not going to be easy. Best advice, follow traffic flow. Stop on the side of the road if you need to catch your breath, adjust your eyes to determine whether you are allowed to turn or even keep going where there are tracks or what appears to be a one way only road! It’s an experience but it is doable if you drive aware at all times. You also can’t be too much of a polite driver as you will never be able to merge into the roundabouts with all the traffic, pedestrians , bicycles, buses, ambulances and vespas! Lol!!
I've can drive now though driving in California 70 mph driving I'm like umm ok where getting off years later I live in Massachusetts a bit better but I was in Rome a couple weeks ago yeah I was like mky we ain't renting a car in fact you guys might of saw me cause 4.19 my hotel was around the corner
Looks like a very chill place to drive. The only thing that would irritate me is how cautious, and slow everyone is driving. People seem to be afraid to assert there right of way there.

It would be such a great video but the music ruins it all. I think most viewers would prefer to hear the car and atmosphere not that annoying music.
Yes.
no i like the music and you can just go watch the unedited version of it

jwhite900 when I was there we had to drive through the most heavily trafficked intersections to get to the hotel. And oh my god.
Traffic in Manhattan is just as bad

My nephew got hit by a moped rider while on holiday in Rome.

Loved driving Italy, every drive was an adventure
LOL. Drive in LA. Crazy and have to dodge people shooting at you.
In Rome it’s even worse, trust me
Dude, L.A. drivers are crazier than this. Sudden lane changes, red light runners, not stopping at stop signs, even crashing into light poles.

@@maximilianmustermann5763 idk but the people recklessly cutting others off with their motorcycle is already getting on my nerves just from watching
Lol. Been there done that. Never again!
Why did you put that bloody music in this video?
Nothing compare to driving in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
4:30 would have been the perfect thubnail to describe driving in Rome. You have failed that opportunity. :D
I love this video. And the music..😄
Rome .... actually already a city of southern Italy, has a similar level of indecent driving and general disregard for rules.
Go back to sleep
No building is less than 450 years old.
It's called having an history

It's amazing to think that here in Argentina we drive almost the same, BUT WORSE.
But we're experts here.
Are there public parkings available near colosseum or Centro Storico?
Yes
you haven't been to the caucasus
I did walk in Rome, is more pleasant
So wonder driving in Italy is one of the most dangerous countries in the EU, the road facility is more than 450 years old or even 1000 years
What's so nuts about this?
Nothing. It's a bit more hectic in the ZTL with people walking and the scooters.
Really nothing
And also a red traffic lights
makes London look tame !

WHERE IS A FEFRARI !? A LAMBO !?
This is the poor side of Italy
I have seen smaller cities with worse traffic! Check out driving in Dhaka Bangladesh
Dhaka has _way_ _more_ people in it.
It's actually pretty chill. Drove there, can be much worse
Couldn’t these people have, at least, washed the windshield?
haha have you driven in LA yet? This is nothing.
