A lot of these unreleased NES games were released on the Famicom and other regions :) Dragon Wars was released on the Famicom. Earthbound was released as Mother, Makai Island was released as Pirateship Higemaru on the Famicom, Mickey Mouse - Dream Balloon was released as Mickey Mouse III on the Famicom and as Kid Clown in the US = Kemco wanted to release it as Mickey Mouse - Dream Balloon in the US but they got notice before release that they didnt have the rights for Disney characters in the US (only for Japan) = thats why they changed it to Kid Clown for the US market, Squashed was released as Ninja Jajamaru: Ginga Daisakusen on the Famicom = Jaleco was afraid to put out that game in the US because lets face it its a blatant Super Mario Bros. 3 rip off, Time Diver EON Man was released just in the Asian markets (not Japan) as Time Diver Avenger = Ultra Healthy Video Game Nerd did an excellent video on the history of the game th-cam.com/video/xZfrIgEwXDE/w-d-xo.html Titan Warriors was supposed to be a sequel to the Arcade game Vulgus.
For the game “Happily Ever After” you can cross the water section. All you need to do is press the B button twice and she will spin for a long time and you can cancel the spin and after that, there will be a giant flower platform that will come right up for you to be able to get to the other side.
Mickey Mouse Dream Balloon seems to be the prototype for Kid Clown, which was released a year later. It's called Mickey Mouse 3 on Famicom. I assume the North America version was renamed as Kid Clown because of a licensing issue.
Grate 😉video my friend! It never fails to amaze me how some of these developers would pass on what could potentially become an awesome title, only to have some snooze-fest hit the shelves instead!
holy moly moonlight sonata on the NES!!! eat your heart out earthworm jim. also xybots = kileak on the NES lol, nice. also i think happily ever after has a flower in the water that appears with a spin. i just went to look at another vid, that's cool. i might give these all a try. thanks.
Check out the amiga version of Hero Quest. I had great fun playing that with my cousins back then. It is not just a prototype it is a full working game.
I watched a playthrough of Happily Ever After and idk how you trigger it, but a giant lilly pad pops up at that body of water and you jump on that to cross. Ive seen that game on cartridge online and was thinking about picking it up. It looks like it be a decent NES game
@@GregsGameRoom yeah it's a repro. But I have no problem with them. I've bought repros before on the NES, SNES, and Gameboy. People get all mad about repros, who cares? If you're able to play and enjoy a game you really want to play then who cares?
Would like to add that I too loved HeroQuest growing up and recently purchased the rerelease with the expansion at Dragon Con. Loved making maps and coming up with interesting stories.
Jeez, Hard Drivin' on the NES? It was probably for the best that it was never released, as even the Genesis and SNES struggled with it. I think Sunman is meant to be played at 50hz, as I remember finding the rom listed as European, and it makes sense considering how absurdly fast the game runs at 60hz. I definitely need to play Time Diver Eon Man, as it reminds me of Power Blade, another excellent action platformer made by Taito. My guess is that they didn't release it because by its completion in 1993, the NES wasn't commercially viable in the US (the market it was developed for, apparently as a sequel to Wrath of Black Manta), even if Capcom was crazy enough to release Mega Man 6 on the system an entire year later.
Earthbound is a series called mother. Lots of drama about english releases, the history is pretty interesting. Check it out you might get a kick out of it
I thought I saw in a deep dive video that Earthbound development started for the NES, but the SNES was coming out, so they moved development to the new platform.
@@michaellinke6448 Earthbound was released. But only on the Famicom in Japan as Mother. The Earthbound released on SNES is in fact Mother 2. This proto in the video is a completed translated version by Nintendo and is known as Earthbound Zero. Later Nintendo finally officially released it as Earthbound beginnings on the Wii U VC etc. Back then it was risky because of expense for Nintendo to release rpg's and with the SNES coming out they scratched releasing it, even though all the work was done. What you describe I think is what happened to NES FF2 which was subtitled Dark Shadow Over Palakia for the US market.
Interestingly, I tried a couple of different roms for Xybots and neither one would work on my Everdrive. Did you have to fix the checksum or something?
realizing this videois a year olld but if im not mistaken there should be a patch to make sunman in to superman maybe im wrong eaither way good video (edit: turns out i was right there is patches to do just that pretty cool)

Thanks for the info!
The NES EarthBound in Japan was called Mother and the SNES EarthBound was Mother 2 but the GBA Mother 3 is for the time being Japan only.

That explains why it's so complete.
I am fascinated by these prototypes. Probably because of the “what if” factor. Thanks for the video
I really enjoy these vids, Greg. Thanks for sharing.
You and Tampa the Jay should have a sleepover and livestream video games all night 😄
LOL, that would be fun!
Grate 😉video my friend! It never fails to amaze me how some of these developers would pass on what could potentially become an awesome title, only to have some snooze-fest hit the shelves instead!
LOL, that “grate” thing reminded me of “JWW on the Move’s” when he’d point to a storm grate at the end of each video!
Mickey Mouse Dream Balloon is the Japanese version of Kid Clown in Night Mayor World. They changed the name and characters due to copyright issues.
That explains why it's so complete then. Thanks for the info!
Yeah, but the japanese version has japanese text so I'm not sure what version is being played in this video.
wow, really nice, thank you for share these unreleased game on nes :D I really enjoy it.
Dracs night out is pretty fun. I have it on my nes classic. Probably going to add a few more after watching this video

Rapidly tap the B button until she starts spinning, and then press A.
Hm, a cartridge would be a repro then. Would probably be worth getting for $50 or less I'd think.
@@GregsGameRoom yeah it's a repro. But I have no problem with them. I've bought repros before on the NES, SNES, and Gameboy. People get all mad about repros, who cares? If you're able to play and enjoy a game you really want to play then who cares?

Oh cool. I was at DragonCon too! I didn’t make a video but my friends Tampa Jay, Splorin Ryan, Krazy Joe, and Adam The Woo did!
Pretty sure we saw you while we were talking with Tampa Jay and Cris! If we see you again at another convention we will say hi!
These are really cool prototypes
Phelous just did a really great video on the history of Happily Ever After by Filmation :)

Hard Drivin' is pretty impressive for what it is. I wonder if they used the same technique Elite did?
@@GregsGameRoom Yeah looks like some sort of wireframe graphics, impressive for sure.
Interesting!👍👍
Yeah, cool to see what could have been.

Sunman was released as Superman on Sega Genesis.
No, that's a different game entirely. The only thing in common is that it's an action platformer, but the levels are different.
Dragon Wars looks like a Might and Magic type of game
Interestingly, I tried a couple of different roms for Xybots and neither one would work on my Everdrive. Did you have to fix the checksum or something?
No, just Googled "Download NES Protos" and it was one of them.

Blockout on NES???
