    It’s great having a 3D printer I think it’s the way forward for the hobby. Got TH-cam on my widescreen tv no more having to watch on my iPhone so this morning bacon sandwich ( I’m on a diet but Sunday treat ) cup of Rosy and Oscar channel perfect Sunday morning mate. All the best and great as always ,maybe more in the way of parts with your printer save a fortune,be safe Mark 😊👍🏻

      Good morning Mark defiantly sounds like a diet if you left out the fried egg from that sandwich! must go and make one myself I'm having a slow start to the day and intend to enjoy myself. I think you are right 3D printing is going to become a very important part of the hobby especially in the maintenance and restoration side of things. As the price falls and the ease of use and quality improve there will become a point where they are perhaps as common as the domestic desktop colour printer. The 3D printer Ender 3 v2 I have is a year old now and cost less than my first colour printer. They now sell quite good colour printers at the supermarket. It's going to be very interesting as it evolves.

    Hi oscar
    Well you seem to have the makings of using th3d printer to its full potential, making the sound boxes is working well i must say i was impressed. Nice to see a bit of amercan running round the layout, what a surprise to find out that the scotsman tender has been utilized on the american loco, i did not know that until you pointed it out. See that running some locos was keeping you on your toes. All good mate keep it going.

    So many interesting things each week from you Oscar. I have a fair collection of different TC coaching stock but now there is another set for me to look out for. I have the earlier set with the red stripes through the window band but not the ones you showed today. I only have one chuff-chuff loco and to be honest, while I like the sound it doesn't take long to get slightly annoying so the loco doesn't get much use. You certainly did a great job on the reproductions. I assume the Collet style coaches have Silver Seal wheels because as the train gathered speed the chuff-chuff was lost in the general sounds of the train. All told, todays video was very relaxing. Thank you again for a great start to my Sunday. Regards, David.

    Morning Oscar you've done a great job making the sound box. If you want the correct material for the arm, which is also best for making pick ups, you need to buy a sheet of beryllium copper. It's available on eBay. This can easily be cut with scissors and retains its spring tension unlike normal soft copper. Kind regards Gary

    A very nice facsimile of the original sound box and 'tone arm' and it sounds the same. I feel a bit bad for my Albert Hall because I took the sound mechanism completely out. I have kept it though just in case. Maybe I will try it again one day just for fun. I like that late model TC Pacific loco too. 👍😊

    Great video Oscar I fitted one of the original chuff chuff sound boxes to my Albert hall a few years ago, my guess is that the previous owner had taken it out because it had the hole to let the scraper section through and the rear axle on the tender has the part that does the scraping to make the noise, the lord Westwood looks to be a very good model and would look good on any layout because it is something quite unique.

      Hi David, I think many people remove the chuff chuff sound boxes as it can become quite annoying, I find it quite good fun and great play value, must have been a great selling feature at the time, simple and effective. There's something about the Lord Westwood it is a striking livery correct or not it looks terrific on a model railway.

    That plant label strip is something I've not come across before. I'm guessing it's a "phosphor bronze" strip which is something I keep an eye out for as they make great replacement/repair for pickups.
    Great video as always.

      Hi, thanks for watching the plant labels I got from a national chain of high street discount stores a couple of years ago. They were sold as a pack of 10 with ties, I think they were less than £3 and simple labelled Metal Plant Labels. When I realised how useful they were I went back for more sadly the store has not had them since. But they are available on auction sites.
      Glad you enjoyed the video take care.

    Good morning Oscar. Great work on the chuff-chuff boxes and nice to see Lord Westwood back on the tracks. I still have a fair bit of work to do before my Transcontinental is up and running. I've done some repairs to its broken body but need to find a replacement for the old Tri-ang tender bogies as the wheels will never work on my track.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Rob thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video, its great fun item the chuff chuff sound, simple and effective and can easily be removed when it becomes annoying but great play value along they way. I think John at Johns Amazing Trains - chambs123 did quit a number of video's showing his conversion of his Tri-ang locomotive and rolling stock over to wheel set that would run on the more contemporary track he is using. I'm sure he showed the change over of his TC items using wheels that were currently available new and a modification to the original axle boxes. Maybe worth a look across his shell to find the wheel types he was using.
      Take care.

    Thank you for this morning breakfast viewing :-) You do a remarkably good job with that 3D printer. I remember that the bridge supports were also excellent. I wonder if it would be feasible to recreate a loco body, such as the Triang 4-6-4, where most of them seem to have suffered distortion? That would keep someone busy for a few weeks doing the CAD!
    Those coaches go well with the TC pacific! Gordon :-)

    Hi Oscar,
    Great job on the sound box. I wonder if a piece of junior hacksaw blade would produce a 'scraper', might be difficult to form such a small shape.
    I am told the tricky part of 3D printing is design and getting the software right, also do you have any experience of shrinkage on cooling down which in turn might render the part unsuitable.
    Good Vaseline tip.
    Regards and keep up the good work.
    Gordon

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gordon, your right it's the size of the clip that makes it hard to manipulate the materials I have at hand. The 3D printing software can be very frustrating, I think there is work to do there by the many developers involved to bring it to a wider group of users. There is a slight discrepancy in parts of an mm which could be shrinkage or the edge of the printer's capabilities, it is not so great it's really affecting the parts I've been working with so far. It's been great fun but a couple generation down the line in hardware and software it's going to become quite an import tool for many.
      Thanks again for watching take care.

    Interesting concept that soundbox. I suppose that those who don't have a 3D printer could make one out of an empty box of matches, which look fairly the same size ... what do you think ? ...

    And 100,000 horrified 1970s Mums roll up their sleeves and come looking for you:-) Clever bit of work and an interesting video, would quite like a bit more on what you are 3d printing. The chimneys form the first series of Trian buildings seem a good prospect and I wonder if you could do catenery masts.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I can just hear them of the now! I've made various bits and pieces to help with the elevated part of then railway and the odd step and drawbar plus a few other useful bits. I'm not sure the PLA I'm currently using would be strong enough for solo masts. Probably a machine that prints in a resin would create a stronger model/part and defiantly fine details could be reproduced. Funny you should mention the chimneys I have working on a drawing but have not got to trying a print yet. It defiantly going to be a valuable tool as time moves on, these early printers are just the beginning but the software has to become more user friendly as it can become very frustrating. But is great fun when you make something that can be useful.
      Thanks again take care.

    Thinking of visual rather than sound effects the Leeds Model Co were I think the first to introduce "smoke" in their first o gauge goods set of 1949. I have the set and the little tank locomotive but no smoke bottles for it

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good morning Nick thanks again for watching. That sounds like an interesting set you have. It's a loverly feature the working smoke, especially on the larger models. Some of the larger American models from Lionel and A.C.Gilbert have great working smoke I think at this size the smoke units are much more robust and reliable and look great in action. Possibly early on I think they used waxy type pellets to drop into the smoke units but I think later and more contemporary units now use smoke fluids.
      Take care.

    That was Brilliant with the sound boxes. I was so impressed with the running, then the Diamond Crossing threw a spanner in the works. I am getting more locomotives running and am closer to putting a layout together. I was thinking of using silicon grease on the fish plates to help current continuity. Do you have any thoughts on that idea ? 😁

    • @gerardburton3741
      @gerardburton3741 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would try a small amount of vasiline on a couple of the the joints to try it out as it carries a current better. It is often used on the battery contacts for cars and bikes.

    • @WhatAboutTheBee
      @WhatAboutTheBee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look up "conductive grease". Quite inexpensive and certainly better for continuity as the grease is filled with tiny metal particulates. There is also "conductive sealant" if you don't want the grease.

    Nice Transcontinental train . Love these coaches . The Lord Westwood is a great livery . I remember the controversy when it was introduced in the 1973 catalogue . The world of model railways was going to end with the Purists because they’d painted a Hall bright red! How could they . The Model Railway Constructor Magazine went into melt down. Must admit found the chuff chuff sound a bit annoying and actively disabled it from my Princess Elizabeth and B12 . Only the Flying Scotsman survives with it ! Nice to know I’m not unique in putting things somewhere safe then promptly forgetting where!
