      Very cool, I'm currently a 1st year chemistry undergrad but I was in a similar boat as you a few years back. It's definitely worth doing, the studies I did in my free time a year or so ago has basically let me ace every exam in my first semester while studying maybe 25% of what everyone else is while still getting better grades than almost all of them. Hope you're still going strong my friend.

    I think overall this good advice as a 3rd year biochemistry major but learning styles have no correlation to how you remember information although everyone has a preferred method to receive info

    Really great quality video and fantastic explanation. I'm a 2nd year European student and we have biochem divided into 2 parts during whole year. Your video definitely helped a lot. Thanks a lot 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

    I'm glad you made this video! Did you find biochemistry difficult in undergrad (obviously it probably wasn't as difficult as it is in dental school)? Did you feel like it prepared you for biochem as a D1 student? And is there anything else you could have done to better prepare yourself for the work load?

    • @stephenraydentist
      @stephenraydentist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Thanks for the comment! Biochemistry in undergrad was mostly the same type of information but presented at a much slower pace. Dental school biochem is both more rapid and more detailed. I will say even though undergrad biochem was easier, I struggled more in it because I wasn’t as good of a student then as I am now. I continue to grow in my habits and study practices. Using Anki (which I should’ve mentioned in this video) and understanding my study style helped me through biochem in dental school. As far as prepping for the workload, organization is key. Learning how to use notion and Anki to systematize your study schedule allows you to be more prepared. I plan to make a video in the next week or so where I prepare for semester two of D1 year, and I’ll talk much more about it in that video!

    hey so im trying to get into PA program and I have options to take biochemistry or mammalian physiology, genetics or cell/molecular biology. I am so confused because I don't know the differences between them and what their order of difficulty is. Do you mind touching base on them please?

    • @syd5604
      @syd5604 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i’m a bit late & im definitely not an expert and can’t rank their difficulty or give an in-depth comparison. however, to my understanding biochemistry can be very broad and you will need to take bio 1 & 2 and chem all the way up to orgo 2 and maybe analytical chemistry (at least that’s what i need for my biochem degree). mammalian physiology immediately sounds the easiest to me but i’ve taken anatomy and physiology 1 & 2 and biology 1 & 2. with mammalian physiology you’re focusing on a specific class. when i say class i’m referring to its location in the taxonomy classification. not only that, you’re only focusing on physiology, not anatomy. it may be more in depth than the others but it may be easier than memorizing mechanisms. cell/molecular biology have a lot in common with biochemistry and genetics. genetics will most likely go over evolution and what not whereas molecular biology would look into the structures & relationships of things like proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, carbs.
      to summarize:
      biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics are closely related.
      mammalian physiology sounds like it’d be more on the biological side and straightforward
      biochemistry is more chemistry based and broad
      genetics is about studying genes/manipulating them
      molecular biology is trying to figure out and understand our metabolic pathways and isn’t solely focused on genetics
      i want to go to med school for anesthesiology and biochemistry fits with it. chemistry is probably my favorite science and i’d 100% suggest picking the one you think sounds the most interesting. definitely do your own research because i haven’t taken all of those classes.
      if you enjoy chemistry, take biochemistry. it could be beneficial for a PA
