Very useful!!! I just bought a Kronos2 and also use Mainstage. I had a PA5X before and could only PARTIALLY control Mainstage from the PA5X, and audio could only be routed back through another channel on my mixer. With the Kronos I'll be able to fully control Mainstage and have the audio routed back to the Kronos directly making the audio avialable to the sequencer and freeing up a channel on the mixer ! NICE -- thanks for the video !
I'm just getting into Gig Performer so this is just brilliant, thank you! Clear, concise, and straightforward as always. I greatly appreciate your time in putting this together.
This was a great, extremely informative video with excellent comprehensive tips. Though I don't own a Kronos, I believe the guidance you have presented here will prove equally invaluable in helping me set up my Korg M3 to act as a MIDI controller in conjunction with Gig Performer. A quick initial attempt to compare the external controller functions of the Kronos to my M3 leads me to believe that they are extremely similar, not surprising as the M3 is essentially the predecessor of the Kronos. Taking advantage of the M3's audio interface on the other hand might prove to be more trouble than its worth as the M3 uses the effectively obsolete Firewire protocol for audio routing. But that shouldn't be an issue as I'll just continue to use my Focusrite audio interface. In any case, thanks so much for putting this out!
The setup would be pretty much identical from both the Kronos side and MS side. I prefer GP5 over MS as I find the visual interface to be so much more efficient. It also works for PC as well as Mac and isn’t as resource hungry as MS. I finished a sound pack of 16 songs in less than half the time it would take me to complete a pack on any other platform so that to me is a testament on how easy it is to learn and use. My Africa sound was done literally the day after I downloaded the software for the first time.
Thanks a ton for this video. Got a Kronos yesterday and have been looking for ways to rehearse and play with backing tracks (without importing directly to the kronos) In this setup are you using the internal kronos sounds at all? Or using GP to trigger and change between VSTs on the PC? Trying to decide now on my workflow and I really love the korgs internal sounds.
There are 2 possible midi channels per Scene plus Channel 1 is always active. You can have 3 active channels per scene plus you could use the mute group function of the SW1 and SW2 buttons. Each midi channel can support up to as many timbres under 16 as you want. Plus its possible to activate sounds at the oscillator level.
Thank you for this tutorial. Assume that it's a similar process for Mainstage? Asking for all the midiots out there (me included). Also, would the pads on a Nanopad connected to the Kronos also be assignable in Gig Performer or Mainstage?
Is Gig Performer a DAW like Logic Pro ? I remember tryng to record the songs I made on the Kronos into the Logic sequencer track by track (midi and audio) but it was impossible. Is it the same on Gig Performer ? thanks !

Hi Narf, quick question, can you control GP from the Nautilus using the knobs?
Yes, setup is the same as shown for the Kronos.
❤ Brilliant! Any reason why Gig Performer rather than Mainstage? Would you do another video for us Mainstage Users/Learners, please?

@@narfsounds thanks that's super helpful. I find MS a bit obtuse to use and there are no tutorials on how to use it with a Kronos. Great video. Thanks
Thanks for the clear and detailed explanation!
Can you also make a video to set up the Kronos2-88 and Cakewalk by Bandlab (as a MIDI Controller and Audio Interface)? Thanks.
nah, I haven't got that. The the Kronos settings will pretty much be the same.

No Kronos sounds in this example. The sounds featured are from my soundpack found at www.narfsounds.com/gp5

Yes exactly the same setup from the Kronos and similar on MS too.

Gig Performer is a plugin host geared towards live performance rather than recording. Check it out at gigperformer.com
This method doesnt seem to work with Cubase 13. Can you please help me out getting this problem solved. Many thanks.
You probably need drivers for your computer from Cubase.
