  • If you've spent even a little bit of time in game audio or sound design, you'll hear about the term "field recording" an awful lot. But what is it, and why should we even bother recording our own sounds in the first place?

    I've had my H6 in my trunk for a few months. Thanks for the reminder to actually take it out and record with it!

    Nice summary Akash. The "gear lust" is definitely real. I remember I started with the H1n and used only that for a year. I upgraded to a H6 and now have an F3 and LOM Usi Pro mics. Looking backI kinda regret buying the H6 because now it mainly collects dust in a drawer, but it was a gear lust purchase at the time. I love travelling light, so the F3 setup with the LOM and a Rode stereo bar on a small tabletop tripod suits me so so well. Everything fits in a backpack easily and I always get superb sound. Now I just need to concentrate on being a better recordist !! Ha ha. Seriously, I'm too eager to put the gear down and press record. I need to learn to slow down and think about what I'm doing, and why I'm doing it.
    Nice video though. Hope you do more of these types of videos in future.

    Another great video...thanks for the effort in all you share. I look forward to the next field recording video, too. I've done most field recordings for a fiction podcast I do with the Zoom H6, and I get great results. But I'm reaching a point of wanting to do more with field recording; in part, just because it gets me outside even more and I like having a sound library I've made.

    Thank you for this video and your explanation, I'm just getting started and I'm really looking forward to it!
    I would be happy to see another video where you go into the external accessories.

    Great tips before I start a project I've had in mind for awhile. There are a couple of spots around my city I'm going to hit up and record several times this year to compare how things change with the weather and time of day. Time to take my little Tascam out for a walk.

    Great stuff as always, brother! The tip about using a tripod/stand/anything inside of the threaded insert is one of the most golden pieces of advices I'd ever received and I wish so badly there was a way to highlight that for anyone NOT already doing that lol aside from making a video that is 😜 dually for slating. Still using my H4n and I tell ya, between that and seeing what MarshallM did with his iPhone in several Waveform vids, enough to make me a believer and stop buying in to all the message boards that have existed spouting the most expensive Sound Devices recorder by the people who either a-didnt actually use them or 2-purchased them as a glorified paperweight because they were too afraid to take it into the field. My H4n is a decade old and has seen a little bit of everything, still works great and allows me to do what I need to do. Really, really loved how you closed with this one saying get out there and DO the thing. It's too easy to get sucked into the words and ideas and thoughts of it all but ultimately that translates to absolutely nothing tangible compared to get getting out and doing. Great stuff, buddy!

      Haha! The handle is such a small thing, but it makes SUCH a big difference!

    The "slating" tip is my best takeaway from this good video.
    Thanks Akash.

    Are those sony xm5? Why do you use commercial headphones for sound recording? Just something that isnt seen to often and im curious.

    • @AkashThakkarAudio
      @AkashThakkarAudio  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup they are! I really don't care about "pro-level" gear in most cases, and I've noticed far more comfort and better sound design results using these over anything else.
