    Отличный дизайн и культура производства! Хорошо, когда сочетаются два фактора: понимание того, что нужно с точки зрения музыканта и умение это изготовить "прямыми руками"! Мэтт, ты как всегда на высоте!

      It is a super cool design indeed. And the thin body of the chanter is quite fun to play as well!

    Matt thanks for your videos. I have been playing for sometime and was thinking of getting a new practice chanter. I don’t have access to bagpipe chanters and was wondering if you have a favorite. I’ve been playing my old Dunbar for the last thirty years with a Abbot reed.

    Thanks Matt! Really enjoyed your review. Was a bit disappointed to see there were improvements made after purchasing a LH one earlier in the year. I don't like spending money though! Haha. Have you compared them both?

    • @MattWillisBagpiper

      The previous one I reviewed alas wasn't mine, so I can not directly compare. That said, very similar from what I recall... I'd say the bell pitch ring is a small upgrade. Nice, but not required.

    Random question. I’ve seen your chanter/blowpipe stand in quite a few videos. Is that just some wood with dowels that hold all of them up? It’s a great idea however you did it. Also, any chanter storage ideas for someone who has a few different ones that I don’t want in my case all the time? Thanks. I appreciate all the videos.

    • @MattWillisBagpiper

      I could only get it to squeak if I tried to underblow it. Squeak free at normal blowing pressure with the provided reed.

    Matt! Awesome job, and contribution to the earth as a planet! You mention the Bfl stem is tuned up for recordings, and I have noticed this phenom while learning songs on the guitar by ear. So does this mean that playing against a recording of say, Lincoln Hilton while he uses the A stem on his chanter work, then, my standard actually should match the pitch of the recording? Mine does (ish) and wasn't sure. (as a side note if you have room for another student I would like to audition or what it is you do when you do that voodoo that you do... lol that escalated quickly...)

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tested Lincoln Hilton's pitch... Good question. As for lesson, email me at matt@mattpiper.com and I'll get you info. The calendar is nearly full, but there are still some slots available.

  • @ianhughes6930
    @ianhughes6930 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is unrelated to this video, but I didn't know where else to post. I was wondering if you have thought about doing a review on the Pipes Galore Delrin bagpipes?

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They technically function as bagpipes, but I don’t care for them. Chanter is very difficult to tune and the drones have a rather odd sound (super large bush openings). In other words, you won’t see a review of them here (I tend to only review products I like... It's hard to not look like a jerk when reviewing something that turns out negatively). In general, I do not recommend any poly bagpipe, even for beginners.

    • @ianhughes6930
      @ianhughes6930 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattWillisBagpiper, absolutely! I was just wondering, because I see them online and have been curious about them, but it's good to know about the tuning. I play a set of Hardies that I absolutely love. Thanks for your reply!

  • @RunePipes

    Hello Matt! I have bought this chanter a few months ago (black anodised version) and I am experiencing a little problem that does not occur during playing on my other chanters (RG Hardie twist trap and one of McCallums). When I am changing notes from low hand to top hand (especially low A to high A or low G to high A etc) it sometimes (about 3 to 4 times out of 10) cuts off and stop sounding. Note changes with G gracenotes makes it even worse. Have you noticed that problem too while playing this chanter and maybe came up with a reason behind it and a solution? My latest idea is that this chanter is very sensitive and demands more stable and lower air pressure than others I have used. I play pipes for over a year now (daily practice) so I am a beginner but not in the "absolute 0" level. Please advise!

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As you deduced, it sounds like you're overblowing the reed. There's less resistance in the ES Session chanters top than the twist-trap, so that could be part of it. I think it could be beneficial to learning how to better control your airflow at a lower volume (builds fine motor control of the muscle required for exhaling).

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was sent to me to review, so I cannot speak for how many reeds a purchased chanter would come with. I'd assume just one.

  • @stuartmoffat937
    @stuartmoffat937 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Matt, I just bought one of these for Xmas and it has a nice sound to it. One thing I really don’t like is the distance from Low A to Low G. I have compared against all the various practice chanters and pipe changers I have and it does not align no where near any of them. I really find this very poor design and wondered what your thoughts are ?

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The holes on the A body are placed where they are for tuning. To bring the pinky hole up would sharpen the low A... The B-flat body may be closer to what you're used to in terms of placement.

  • @puttsky7
    @puttsky7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice timing I just received mine in the mail yesterday! Question from a new piper though, I find the reed is very hard to blow through requiring a lot of pressure, is this normal or can that be adjusted? Thanks a million

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reeds for these ES chanters are quite thin plastic, so I wouldn’t suggest sanding the blades. If you have access to dental elastics (rubber bands fit braces), one of those doubled or tripled up about a third of the way above the wrapping on blades of the reed might help.

    • @puttsky7
      @puttsky7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
