Split rims are no big deal, you just have to pay attention to what you are doing. I have changed a thousand of them.

ed here, been redoing 1969f600 in tenn. hard to get anyone to change the 2pc rims or to air them up! they look easier to change than later rims. those 20 in. tires are about $350 here. i need 4. found 2 one pc rims/tires for front at $300. a bargain, but they are 22 inch. are the 22 inch tires off semi trucks easy to find used? cant find 20 inch.
Just use duece wheels you can get em cheap
22's are either hub or stud centric. as are 24's
those 20" tires held up to abuse for 40 + years till something better came along
Use a tire maul and a flat spoon to open the lock ring. Flip over and invert valve stem and hit with maul
Or just get the right tool for the split ring, I change mine using 15in tire spoons

I would have changed the hubs fast as I can to either lug mount or Hub mount(preferred). There is a reason you hardly ever see those wheels, They are a pain in the booty.
And yes I know it would cost me a lot of money, But I have access to Truck dismantlers, a pick a part for trucks.
