Hi Tracy, hope you are well ☺ There is always something different to grab and it gives me such good inspo - whether I ever get making one-tenth of what I want to is another story 😅
Nat, you certainly find some amazing books in your area!! Love the old music book covers! I can see another Engineering stylr journal coming up soon - ish!! Happy New Year!!!
For sure Carol, I am itching to make a few vintage, more masculine (for want of a better descriptive 😅) journals this year. Need to finish a few projects firstly so must get my butt moving!!! Big hugs💕
Isn't it wonderful, I got a nice surprise thumbing through that one. I received a lovely letter today - thanks so very much!!! I am putting aside a few pieces for you 😘
The porcelain painters book was so beautiful! Would be fun to use those pictures. And the Scottish Clans and Their Tartans--- I found one from 1897 online --- too expensive, but a leather bound beauty!
I can imagine it being an expensive book, mine is a recreation but will still look up about it I think. Still an amazing little book with a wealth of material ☺ The pictures in the porcelain book and the magazines I have are amazing - so beautiful 🌼
The Sottish Clan tartans book is fabulous! I also really liked the car repair manual. What are the recycling bins you mentioned? I can't imagine any op shops or even tip shops putting these book out for recycling 😮
You would be surprised! I volunteer at a secondhand bookshop that raises fund for charity and although we give unwanted books to many other causes at times (shared with prisons, hospitals, kids packs etc, even started a library in the Congo) there is only so much room in the shop (it's a whole house!) therefore books that have sat on the shelves for the longest and doubles go to recycling to make room for incoming as it wouldn't make sense to hold onto ones that are not selling. I would suggest the op-shops get rid of even more as we get trailer-loads of books they have turned away and possibly ones they clear out too 😐 Seeing all of this is what made me look for how to use them and start making journals ☺ It is great that this hobby can use bits and pieces out of old, broken, decrepit books to make something amazing 🥰
@natwilliams That's quite amazing. From the prices some op shops charge you'd think trashy books were in high demand. I go specifically wanting to buy them but often leave empty handed because I won't pay $5-10 for an old book (and I don't mean special old books). It frustrates me 😕
@@TraceyFJStudio Same! Many op-shops throw out most of the vintage ones and then sell a few for ridiculous amounts broken, old ones missing pages and with writing in because they must look up that it is worth a lot online - but not realising that good quality is what makes it so. Very much angers me.
I still struggle and hoard the majority, but it is getting easier as I see how many copies there are of some and understand the worth better. I always ask myself what I would do with them otherwise and the answer is they would sit on the shelf gathering dust 😅 so I rather use them constructively ☺💕
Great haul to start off the year! What a great collection of fabulous books!

I really enjoyed your book haul. I just love books, but i have the hardest time harvesting them!
