One of my favorite things about this is that it’s a Sarah sketch where Sarah isn’t the weird thing that’s happening, she’s reacting to it instead. Of course she’s great at the weird stuff but she really shines in this sketch without being the weird one.
She is such a great foil in a straight woman routine. I'd watch her in a movie if it was just her being normal reacting to an increasingly insane world.

Additionally, I read this right after the thing ended which was when I paused to read the disclaimer about Pongo and emotional projection so I found refocusing on pongo’s mental state to be extra humourous My Biggest thing tho is why use that insult in the comment section of an actually good snl sketch, just kinda makes you material feel a lot more mushy

Love the twist ending. Was expecting it to go super dark and Pongo like shove her in the hole or something but great way to reverse expectations with a callback.
The entire family has been converted by the sinister inhuman pull of Pongo. The one holdout, the mother, with enough will to put up a fight, was still, in the end, helpless to resist Pongo's senseless, brain-melting stare and succumbed, with just a single touch of his smooth paw. The world beyond the suburban gate is next, and the universe beyond. I think the ending was pretty fucking dark.
The more Sarah dials back the funny, and tries to act like a real (or crazy) person, the funnier she is. Some of the funniest sketches include an actor/actress acting as serious and real as they can. People like Woody Harrelson and Adam Driver do this really well.

Even Starting with Season 1, Episode 1, which i watched as a teen, in an hour and a half there were always a couple of second rate sketches. Especially the SNL muppets. Painful to watch
At 1:07 when you see the very faint red veins around the outside edges of Pongo's eyes... that's when you know. Okay, it's SNL you know from the start, but when you see those tiny blood vessels, that's when you know for sure.

But I'd love to start seeing some of the scenarios she set up evolve and come back. I just rewatched Meatballs and thought it'd be hilarious to make a sequel where meatballs have become a global pandemic or a required sex Ed film in schools.. Etc. Just an idea that you're probably already working on... Anyhow! Love Sarah and glad she's found folks at snl that indulge/produce her wild ideas!
I saw a robot dog decades ago. It did some pretty impressive dog like moves. Then I realized, after watching him for a few minutes, that it was the same stuff over and over and that was all that he did.

Sarah was fantastic in this! In the sketches she stars in, she usually plays a very absurd character surrounded by normal people, here, it's reversed, and she is the (relatively) normal one surrounded by people acting absurdly. It's a great flip that works well for her!
What a great skit! Gives me chance to remind folks that pets shouldn't be gifts. They are living creatures, just like us. They require love & care their entire lives. Nothing is sadder for a kid or any of us to abandon their pet. And the hearts of those pets are broken forever as they wait for the return of their guardians.
