December Snow - Korg Wavestate

- Live Ambient Berlin School jam inspired by snow, ice, wind and frost - using a custom 4-layer patch on the Korg Wavestate.

The Pitch Envelope in Layer D (arp 2 melody) is used as an oscillator by having it retrigger when it drops below -2. The speed of this envelope-turned-oscillator is controlled by Pitch Envelope Decay time, which is modulated by the Amp LFO. The Pitch Envelope modulates the Filter Resonance. The result is a kind of “dirty”, wobbly sound. To add to the variation, the modulation amount is again modulated by the slowly moving Pan LFO.
A similar technique is used for the pad in Layer C. The pitch envelope retriggers and modulates the High Pass amount of a Multi Filter. Pitch envelope decay is modulated by the Pan LFO, varying the frequency of the retriggered envelope, creating a nice windy texture. This Layer uses a Decimator effect with a slowly looping LFO modifying sample frequency, resulting in slow sweeps in the higher frequencies.
Wavestate performance mod knobs:
Knob 1: Layer A (arp melody 1) Octave
Knob 2: Layer B (arp bass) Octave
Knob 3: Layer C (pad) Octave
Knob 4: Layer D (arp melody 2) Octave
Knob 5: Layer A (arp melody 1) Amp Level
Knob 6: Layer B (arp bass) Amp Level
Knob 7: Layer C (pad) Amp Level
Knob 8: Layer D (arp melody 2) Amp Level
Joystick X turns Layer A (arp melody 1) into sfx.
Joystick Y more Delay on Layer B (arp bass) and less Reverb overall. The dotted eighth delays bakes the bass busier.
ModWheel makes everything softer and dreamy, by increasing Amp and Frequency Envelope Attack and reducing Filter Envelope Intensity.
The audio is recorded to SD card on a Zoom R16 recorder/mixer and normalized in Audacity. Video is recorded on a Canon EOS M50 mk2 with the included EF-M 15-45mm lens. Audio and video is synchronized in DaVinci Resolve 18 (free version).

Bro I just watched one of your tutorials on the wavestate and followed it step by step but making my own little changes and it was so much fun. Thank you for helping me out I'm new to the hardware synths and it's a huge thing for me as it helps my overall mental state but I have no clue what the hell I'm doing lol. Please make more tutorials with the wavestate I need them in my life 😆

Hello, (as known) very beautiful sounds and i'm also looking fwd to the (hopefully) next performance set. My favourite part here was the transition at 15:30 and including the last part!👍
An incredible composition of sound design and rhythm. Always moving, changing filtering, rhythms. Seems all sound including effects are coming from this one instrument. Also the stereo field seemed to be panned inside the WaveState. The recording sounds analog and modular, but better.
A new version with 61 keys and aftertouch is coming out very soon and more polyphony.
Yeah, that’s cool. I’m looking forward to getting updated factory sounds with aftertouch support for the Wavestate mk1, using my Hydrasynth as a MIDI keyboard for aftertouch :-).

Hi, beautiful sounds, if I buy them, can I upload them to the VST Native version? do i need a wavestate synthesizer?
All patches are tested with the Wavestate Native VST and sound identical to the Wavestate hardware synthesizer :-).
There is the Wavestate and there is the Wavestate with Waveformer soundbanks... where life and magic meets. Having the other two, when will the upcoming soundbank for the Wavestate be available, roughly? Takk!

Waveformer I was trying to use an external keyboard controller (Arturia Keylab 61) on my Wavestate to get a broader key range but I can't get it to work. I tried turning off local control in the Utility menu. Have you got it to work? Or have you ever controlled it from PC via USB? - Thanks
When is your upcoming soundbank for the Wavestate due to come out? Will your soundbanks also work inside Wavestate Native?
I can use the sets also on the native, but its much more comfortable to
play and vary it on the keyboard version
@@torstenb2205 Sure thing. But I already own a Kronos, so I want to use it as my controller. It even has a joystick. Do you know if the Kronos joystick can control Native's virtual vector joystick?
@@epicsynthwave hmm, in order of using the same MIDI CCs i think it should be possible, but I'm not really sure. Just ask the Korg Support
Seems that wavestate is a extension of yourself
It certainly feels that way sometimes. It has tought me to think differently about composing music, and I find that stuff I’ve learnt on the wavestate is applicable to other synths as well.
