It's a torque monster no RPM needed

Never seen a 2 stroke go so slow, surprised he wasn't overtaken by a pedestrian

That bike is very well behaved, I think you have hit the holy grail of jetting.
My '82 never run that clean, always took a lot of Klotz octane booster, the tank is still brown from running that stuff.

thanks bubba for the compliment.. they are very rich from idle to wide open,... the biggest thing that cleaned up the response was going from a 2.0 slide to a 3.0 slide. made a world of difference.. I also changed the needle jet and the main jet..

Im not 100 percent sure about your H model 465 pipe but if you look closely at it and can see a row of spot welds running either horizontally or vertically in a few places this is where the internal baffles are located..if any..This was common practice in the day in an attempt to quieten down these 2 strokes for registration purposes here in Australia..Another riding buddy with a Suzuki PE400 told me about this having done his bike already..If you simply replace the stock HEAVY atrocious muffler spark arrestor with a straight through alloy unit, that alone will make a noticeable difference especially to performance..Good luck with it.

Great vid and bike bud got one myself. My bike revs up on its own when hot and riding 1st gear sections any ideas what that is? Other than that it's sweet.

sounds like it is running lean if it is reving up.. you said it does it when its hot so I am just about positive its a lean condition.. these engines run hot to begin with and with the bad combustion chamber design they ping a lot especially when hot.. that is why I had my head bead blasted to remove all the paint and help aid in cooling.. its probably to hot and pinging along with a lean condition and the engine gets leaner the hotter it gets and that will cause surging issues..

run a hot plug if you ride slow all the time.

I bought the 1982 J model of this bike with the added YEIS (Yamaha Energy Induction System) back in the day brand new from a dealer and had similar pinging issues with it..did everything jetting wise to the carby but to no avail..A mate back then had an earlier YZ465G 1980 model and i asked him if i could borrow his complete exhaust system to try out..Once fitted to my IT the first ride showed a huge transformation..It was easier to start..louder..more powerful and responsive..and revved out more and ran cleaned with NO PINGING whatsoever..So i cut my chamber in half lengthwise and removed 1kg of internal baffles and junked the stock muffler and fitted an ANSWER alloy unit..Jetted it according to the spark plugs color..checked ignition timing and ran BelRay MC1 at 50:1 exclusively with no smoking even dead cold..The bike was such a joy to ride after that and was always a first kick starter every time...The exhaust system is the problem on these ITs..way way too restricted internally..engine is choked up so it runs hotter and pings.

Wow I never thought about that with the exhaust you mean to tell me the expansion chamber on the exhaust is baffled and gets all plugged up wow go figure so putting a y z pipe really cleaned it up yeah I can understand if it has an exhaust restriction it will get hot that will cause a lot of heat and hence the pinging begins it all makes sense wow thanks for the info Bubba cheers
