The US desert Southwest is such a national treasure. It's sad that many of our fellow Americans have never seen these vistas up close much less at ground level. The scenery in this video was inspiring. Thanks for sharing this time with your son!

In the 50s and 60s I was frequently a passenger on piston planes, from 172s to Constellations, but mostly DC-3s. I always enjoyed the customary run-ups before takeoff. Two or four big radials at full throttle for a few seconds we’re awesome.

Every time I see views like that of those canyons out west it is humbling to contemplate how much time it took for nature to create them. Seems impossible. If you went back something that seems a long time to us, say 250,000 years, it wouldn't look any different. You would need hundreds of millions of years. Beautiful images.

Wonderful! This just may be your best video in the US to date! Those strobes look great. Very jealous of the terrain for your in flight videos. Doesn’t get any better especially with the sunset! Surprised your tail camera doesn’t get layered with dust! Great editing and I know the time it takes! Cheers!

I really liked the comment about having your own personal mini Grand Canyon.
I live in southern Nevada and I travel as often as I can around Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. I've started avoiding the national parks in favor of the state parks. Go to a place like Moab and the national parks are PACKED with people. There are stories of people having to wait hours to get into Arches NP. But if you go up into the hills, you can visit Deadhorse State Park and many times be one of the only persons there!

If there's an arrow pointing to and from it, it is probably an old postal beacon location used in the 30s to 50s as a navigation aid way before radios were used. They were between 20 and 40 miles apart in the west so pilots could navigate at night across the dark desert.

I didn't read through all the comments, so maybe someone else already pointed this out. I found that rectangular structure on Google Maps and it is a water catchment. It collects rainwater and stores it in a tank that is either under the ground, or maybe hidden under the catchment apron. It feeds the drinker that is just east of the apron, and provides water for wildlife, probably primarily bighorn sheep. 36.307100488320906, -113.8278112316474
