Pushing v Pulling Screw Conveyors

  • The drive unit can be located on either the inlet or discharge end of a screw conveyor. KWS recommends locating the drive unit on the discharge end to pull material towards the discharge. Pulling material toward the discharge puts the screw sections in tension, keeping alignment, which is critical for preventing premature failures.

    Metal in tension can carry more load while in compression it will sag,bend or buckle.Drive motor mostly located overhead for wiring reason ,For belt conveyor it is wise to install motor overhead when the load is from bottom to avoid double friction on pulleies.

    Can it support 1000 feet horizontal, we want to use in dairy for cowdung

      It should don’t know how good it would push liquids. We brace it at every 10 foot or so and I don’t see why it wouldn’t that’s a hell of a auger though

      For that length chain conveyor would be better choice. 1000 ft would be a lot of hanger bearings to maintain and you would need very solid connections between screw lengths to be reliable. 35 years working in moving grain and milling products - that would be my recommendation.
