Excellent! I recall an interview of DePalma - regarding The Untouchables - where Capone is in court. DePalma could not gage De Niro's subtle performance, De Niro told him "It's good don't worry. DePalma was floored when he saw the footage on the big screen.. Little aggressive beats, barely perceptible until magnified. I'm subscribed.
This was so helpful, I am not an actor, I am a writer and I am writing my first screen play I have searched high and low to understand beats and this is the most simplified explanation I have found thank you
Wow. What an informative video. It is a very very important information not only for Actors but also for other behind the camera people. Loved the video. Thank you so much.
Coming from a theatre background, I'd say all the advice here applies just as directly to the theatre actor. Very clear. I like your use of examples. Have you thought of adding in the excerpts from the films after you describe what happens? That way we can parse the acting with your thoughts in mind.
You are right, Jeremy. Stage and screen acting are closely related, and the advice I give can apply to both. Thanks for the interesting suggestion about film excerpts.
As a new director, this class of rudimentary and imperative philosophy show script comprehension is fundamental to actors making a scene live. Practicing "multi note" action is key to entertaining acting. I came here to learn what someone else thought a "beat" was and learned much more.
Hii. I have seen your videos and really inspired by your advice. Looking forward to your videos. By the way, I have recently wrote a script. I would be honoured if you take a read at my script.....
Thanks Deborah. I used to feel the way you do. Then, I made a shift in my approach. I stopped thinking in terms of good and bad scripts. I made the choice to bring color and variety to every performance. My acting improved. Now, I approach all of my on camera work with the attitude that there are no bad scripts. I can react to every moment as if it is the most important moment. Let the script serve as a trigger to your imagination and creativity.

Matrixman, I'm not sure if I understand your comment.
Maybe you meant "fundamental" rather than "detrimental"?

@Screen Acting Success is this all there is to it when it comes to beats. I'm coming from a screenwriter perspective.
There's never an "all there is." The video is an illustration to help actors find variety and color in their performances.
@@ScreenActingSuccessWhat are some authors that deepen on beats & subtext? 👋
Hey great stuff! Do you offer coaching on this? How can I contact you?
Thanks, Jimmy. I do coach actors. What, specifically, are you looking for in terms of coaching?
how to choose a good screenplay script as a producer?
one awesome class
Thank you. I'm glad it helped you.

If anyone wants to learn how to act in a nutshell....This is ththe video
Thank you. I'm glad the video helps you.
Valuable tips - but some of the scripts I see are so badly written, I'm not sure it's worth trying to apply these tips.

@@ScreenActingSuccess love this!! Thank you!!!
Who doesn't already know all of this automatically? Even the worst actors already know this.
To be fair, I had no idea what it meant in a script if you read (beat) I haven't done screen acting before
the godfather reference just sealed it with how irrelevant old heads are with advice
