When people know l was born and raised in Newark NJ.the would have a look on their faces l knew they put in a certain category. As a white girl l didn't know l was poor. I had wonderful experiences at Easter Side High School and Queen of my prom all my fellow students got along and became friends..sooo. when l hear that Newark is trash it breaks my heart. I graduated in 1964 and had many teachers like Queen's Mom. .To this day and now l am 79 yrs l attribute my success in life to the men and women that were my teaching East Side Highschool in Newark NJ.
Mrs. Owens was a beautiful spirit. This is another reminder of the importance of making an impact on others' lives. Vernon, for instance, may not be here today if it weren't for his angel. Another powerful lesson/reminder I took away from this: "Give me my flowers while I yet live.... Speak kind words to me while I can hear them...." I am so glad those students told her just how much she meant to them. *Bravo* to Queen Latifah for that wonderful idea. May God bless Mrs. Owens's soul.
Passion that sees the potential in students and purpose to make a positive difference in their lives are cornerstones of teaching. For students to refer to her as "Momma O" says that she left a great legacy. Rest well, Ms. Owens.

Even though i didn't know your mom i know she is your top care love. People who see this know this i was in New Orleans when Miss Dana was here and i can confirm her mom got a call from her at the end of the day every day. Miss. Dana sweeteat person to meet the first thing she said to me was how is tooth ? Caring about someone she first meet rhat is good person in my book. I had surgery and was out the day she moved in. It was a Great 5 weeks knowing you i no longer work there but will always remember it praying for you at this time my dear friend .
