Thank you for featuring this book on the Nerdist book club. Yes, the book is a bit dragging, but I really loved it when I was young. Purely because I was fascinated with an immoral falling in love with a mere mortal. I was then exploring my sexuality and this is like a handbook growing up. Please feature The Vampire Lestat or Queen of the Damned next.

Anne Rice used Louis as an outlet for her struggles with anxiety and depression. You can see that in his constant ruminating and complete inability to move forward with anything. The first book is slow and the voice is all Louis and so you feel the struggle he endures to just get through the day. By the time you get to the end you feel as worthless as he does. The beginning of The Vampire Lestat is a slap in the face comparatively.
Also when she wrote this she was not as religious as she later became. At this point in her life she was very apathetic to religion and you can see that in her writing. She later found religion and began writing books about Jesus and religion.
The main point of this whole book is that Louis will never be fulfilled! He is the same from the moment he is made throughout all of the books. He can never find peace or joy, he won't let himself.

Interview With The Vampire was an Easy read.
    I love it.
The Vampire Lestat book was pure awesome though.
Queen of the Damned. I didnt like that much. I didnt like the third person pov.
The books after that while good felt not needed and too fetishist...
I read the original 4 books before the film btw. The film turned me off because they didn't match the book characters. But i understand why the cast older people, and people that didn't match the character description.

I like these book club series, but I do feel like they focus on very surface level attributes of a lot of the books. While plot and writing needs to be discussed, themes and authors purpose is arguably way more important.

Let's talk about the broken religious perspective Louis has on his identity and how that compares to Anne rice's struggle with catholicism after her daughters death. The exploration of the human condition through the lense of immortality, and the seemingly pointlessness of life.

Memnoch the devil. I feel she says everything she wanted to say religious wise with that book.

Like the first book. Second book was just okay,. Hated the third book and stopped there.
