    there's a lot more debris in the water than I would have expected. and it's not really water it's more like a thick milkshake with logs in it. great video thank you learned a lot

      After watching this watch it again and look at the background. This is why that looks the way it does.

      The drainage basins are huge, flood has a lot of time to pick stuff up before it arrives where I am filming. :)

      You get some amazing shots, you most def have some experience with those washes!

    Thank you for this incredible footage, I have often tried to convey to people not familiar with the desert the dangers of flash flooding. Your footage makes that danger much easier to understand for the novice.

    The monsoon season in the 4 corners is fantastic. I love the power of the storms. It brings life to the desert.

  • @rankinstudio

    Thanks for your concern. The water doesn't form new paths as the front wall is coming down. It will always follow the path of least resistance - the existing stream channel. After the flood gets going and picks up a bed load, then it carves new paths for subsequent floods. While this is risky, I have been doing it for over 10 years. The rewards of seeing / filming these floods is well worth the risk to me. Cheers, David.

    Wow that's incredible, and yes, it is so incredibly dangerous in every aspect. Great share though, I love to see the true start of a flash flood, how non-gradual a process it can be! The sound of all those rocks is brilliant, and that setting is really something too, those canyons and mountainous landforms in the background are very striking.

      +Bioshock Infinite Say someone(not a smart person) camped in one of the gullies as it looked cool, not knowing there was a storm 15 miles away that's now a river on top of you. Generally they kill when someone is unaware they are en route.

    • @cdstrngr
      @cdstrngr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Bioshock Infinite These can't because the banks are so short and wide...If it was storming hard I'm sure it would be more climactic....This is a very mild example of a flash flood....I've only seen one flash flood in my life and the one I saw was probably about 20x worse than this. The one I saw could most definitely kill you...The initial flow is near impossible to swim in because it is very dense due to all the mud (good luck floating/doggy paddling in that).....add drift wood on top of that and you are DONE.
