Did Maximus betray his wife according to GLADIATOR 2? Or is there more than meets the eye? 🧐
    What's your opinion? 💭

@PythonSelkan Just saw the movie with my dad yesterday and we had a lot of fun and I did have a blast watching the film in local theater, Yes as someone who loves history it is historical inaccurate but that doesn't take away my experience watching the film in terms of being enjoyable fun movie and yes I'm totally aware of Ridley Scott hatred of historical accurate or his beef with historians but still as a film it good enjoyable film. Is it Ridley Scott's best movie like The Last Duel, no but it is good entertaining film to watch from start to finished yes. Now keep in mind this is just opinion of the film alone not everyone else opinions for an example I enjoy Avatar the Way of Water but a lot of people dislike that film but still that is my opinion when it come to my taste in certain films the only time I agree with people when it come to bad movies is Joker: Folie A Deux. Heck I will admit when Ridley Scott announce this film I was like many people really why I understand Ridley Scott is getting older and want to have legacy but still why a sequel to Gladiator 2 but still the experience me and my dad after the watching was really good.
Now I'm still in the process of the whole Lucius being the son of Maximus being canon although to be fair there were hints in the first film about this possible and since tons of fan theories latch onto the idea. After I watch your video and especially my own thoughts on this topic I don't think really ruins Maximus revenge story from the first film if anything it shows that Maximus was kinda a bit flawed as a young man prior to his marriage to his true love. Which itself isn't bad thing we don't know how old is Maximus when he died but we could assumed he is the same age as Lucilla so their affair is more of young people doing well young people do, not to mention that I would imagined Lucilla may have to pick her bodyguards or lovers from the lower ranking officers like upcoming ones such as Maximus. Also let not forget that Marcus Aurelius is a bit flawed leader too sure he is presented as a wise fatherly figure to Maximus but at the same time he was kinda a bad father to Commodus (although Commodus's actions are still his own choices.) plus we know that enslave Macrinus leading to his dark path for his rise to power, Heck he was the emperor of the Roman Empire but he did nothing to restore the Republic during his whole reign granted there a lot of problems going on into his reign like Plagues and War but still,
Ultimately I think Marcus Aurelius is a complicated figure kinda his ruthless counterpart yes he was wise and a stoic philosopher but also he is the Roman Emperor who is was ruthless to that regard.
If I have one criticism I have for this film is it doesn't really explain why Lucilla didn't become Empress despite being the daughter and sister of two Roman Emperors like why she pass besides hiding her son from Rome or at least why the dream of the Roman Republic didn't happened after Maximus's death as the ending of the first film suggested. I know about what happened with Real Life Roman History with the aftermath of Commodus's death like the Year of the Five Emperors and the Birth of the Severan Dynasty but still should have elaborated on why didn't it happened for the Gladiator universe besides well that not what happened in actual history.
And to be honest as much flack people give to Ridley Scott for the years like Napoleon, I can't really blame him to go back and have Rome an empire again, From his perspective or at least the marketing/general population perspective Rome as an empire or The Roman Empire is a lot more cool and interesting that having it being a republic for the sequel despite what the first film suggested So from this standpoint I understand why Scott choose to have Rome still being an Empire for the sequel plus I imagined for him it would be a lot of fun especially with the Twin Emperors and their madness like to him they are entertaining to direct and watch!

@@WyattDucar Basically this film was a cash grab by Ridley Scott and the timeline and chronology are way too off, I mean it's way too far off. Yes the two emperors did exist(Geta and Caracalla) but they were not twins and Macrinis (Denzel Washington) had nothing at all to do with killing them, it was actually Caracalla who killed Geta, there was a lot of rivalry between them and they were not gay dandies or mentally impaired retards. Caracalla was a ruthless soldier who enjoyed the company of his troops more than the company of senators. This massive alteration of their depiction makes the characters and the story directionless. Also, they did not have sharks in the amphitheatre. Rome was not that advanced. You really shouldn't praise crap movies mate

@@mikemacfadyen1972 True I will admit it is a fun movie (I like Avatar The Way of Water mostly for 3D stuff. but people hate that movie so everyone has a different opinion.) I don't care for the historical accurate. Plus Denzel along with Pedro were the best things about the movie. Yes the Emperors aren't accurate to their real life counterparts but I still think they are fun too watch. Plus I like Joseph Quinn as an actor and seem like he was having a lot of fun. Could you elaborated on the timeline and chronology being off. Just Curious.
I will agreed that it is a cash grab by Scott himself. Heck when he announced I was very skeptical . Still considering the other ideas for Gladiator 2 over the years like bringing Maximus back from the literal dead like the Nick Cage script. It could have gone a hell of lot worse.
Still regardless The Movie was a success in the box office. (Not a billion dollar level but still made it money back.) I'm curious to see on what Gladiator 3 would be (obvious it would be a while.) considering how Gladiator 2 ended where Lucius becomes Emeperor. Again just because the film is a cash grab or at least not good compared to the original I still enjoy as a film entertainment wise and I'm curious on where would they go from here. Remember Everyone has a different opinion on certain things.

Got to be honest, Gladiator 2 was awful. The film on it's own was okay but as a sequal, woeful.
Gladiator 1 played on our emotions so well and that's what made it such a classic, it made the hair stand up on our necks. Gladiator 2, the fight scenes, the speeches, the story about the wife being killed was just a huge let down.
My expectations was probably set too high, but rightly so, Gladiator 1 is amazing but for me, this film is 3-4/10.

As a woman, knowing in Gladiator 1 Maximus only wanted to go home to his wife and son, it is kinda of a letdown that he fathered an outside child... even if it’s just make-believe.

Nope. There is absolutely NOTHING in the first movie that even remotely 'hinted' that Lucius was his son, it makes absolutely no sense, both boys are 'nearly 8 years old'... It's completely out of character, now they made him dishonest and an adulterer, and also a tooI who is totally oblivious to this possibility. And for some reason she never told him, another nonsense.
What's next - Maximus was Marcus Aurelius' real son? And Commodus was Proximo's real son lol. Cringe parody 'sequel'.

I always thought so. When I watched the first film I was convinced Lucious was Maximus son, when they never said tho, I was confused about who his father there. When this second film got out, I finally confirmed what I was thinking for a long time.

    • @danicruz7746
      @danicruz7746 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

@@tyletmyrick8535 because the first film plays with that idea. Maximus and Lucila are shown with a pretty close relationship. The way they look each other, the way maximus looks to Lucius in some scenes. Lucila is the sister of the emperor and maximus is "just" a soldier, but for her he seems to be more than that because otherwise they wouldn't have so many moments alone. All these things are there to make you think "what if..." Its not just coincidence.
Of course they could be just very good friend but that would be much less deeper from a narrative and character building point of view. The best thing about a movie is when it ends not answering everything so you have to fill the gaps.

@@danicruz7746Hahaha, omfg... you literally said a whole bunch of nothing basing all of this off mere personal assumptions. Of course we know that Maximus and Lucila had a past before he left to move on. But nowhere, was it ever specifically hinted that they ever had a child in the slightest. The only reason why this lazy sequel even exists is to cash in on the nostalgia from the fans by tryna shoe-horn in some connection on a character to have relations to a previous protagonist who was far more interesting than this one will ever be (knowing it'll make no sense for him to be in the arena anyway considering he comes from a rich wealthy Roman bloodline). They clearly can't think of anything else! 😂🤣

I was just talking about that it is perfectly valid to assume that maximus is the father based on the hints the movie gives. You can have a different theory, that's fine but the one I told you is also perfectly possible and the old movie, again, wants you to play with this possibility

The minute I found out about this twist I immediately lost interest in seeing the sequel. But I hope it does make some money as there are some really great stories that can come from Roman history. And we could get some decent films out of people trying their hand at an ancient epic.
