  • This is podcast #2 in our series of ‘Traditions of Men versus Traditions of God.’ Enjoy!
For more than 17 years we were immersed in a church community that had elements of charismatic, word of faith, new age, and new apostolic reformation.
If you have been hurt by word of faith, new age, and other similar teachings, and would like help navigating your way back to the truth of God’s word, please contact us!

Our Mission: To provide support and education for those caught up in this deception and point them back to scripture.
    📖HOLINESS MOVEMENT: 1860’s
    👉🏼 Led by John Wesley
👉🏼 Placed an emphasis on total sanctification, achieving sinlessless
👉🏼 The term ‘Second Blessing’ was first used by John Wesley who claimed that an individual received a ‘second blessing’ from the Holy Spirit after their conversion
    📖FIRST WAVE: CLASSIC PENTECOSTALISM
👉🏼 Began in 1901 with Charles Fox Parham who was the first to believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was evidenced by the speaking of tongues
👉🏼 CHARLES FOX PARHAM: Taught that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was a ‘third blessing.’
👉🏼 JOHN G LAKE: A leader in the Pentecostal movement, known as a faith healer. Heavily influenced by JOHN ALEXANDER DOWIE and CHARLES FOX PARHAM.
👉🏼 Widely accepted to have launched mainstream as a result of the Azusa Street Revival which began on 4/9/1906 led by a preacher named William Seymour, who was a former student of Charles Fox Parham
    👉🏼CORE BELIEFS & TERMINOLOGY:
    - Believed that speaking in tongues was evidence of baptism of the Holy Spirit and that it should be earnestly pursued
    - ‘Second Blessing’
    - ‘Third Blessing’
    - ‘Baptism of the Holy Spirit’
    📖SECOND WAVE: THE CHARISMATIC RENEWAL
👉🏼 Began 4/3/1960 as a result of a Pentecostal preacher by the name of Dennis Bennett sharing his story of Holy Spirit baptism. He was forced to resign, but the resulting media coverage launched what became known as ‘The Charismatic Renewal.’
👉🏼 Became common among mainstream denominations by the mid 1960’s
👉🏼 ORAL ROBERTS: The Pentecostal / Holiness preacher responsible for founding the modern prosperity gospel, ‘Seed Faith’ theology, and well-known for holding ‘healing revivals.’ Is considered a mentor to more modern prosperity preachers such as Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Prosperity theology has its origin in the 1950’s healing revivals.
👉🏼 KENNETH HAGIN: An Assemblies of God preacher know for founding the Word of Faith Movement in the mid-late 1960’s, an offshoot within the charismatic movement, and originated as a result of the teachings of E.W. KENYAN, thought to have it’s roots in the New Thought Movement of the 1880’s
    👉🏼 CORE BELIEFS & TERMINOLOGY:
    - ‘We as believers in Jesus’ death / burial / resurrection have the right to physical healing
    - ‘Our words have power’
    - ‘It is always God’s will to bless us with good health and financial blessings, and that faith, positive speech, and donations will cause God to move in their life.
    - It is taught that Christ not only died for our sins, but that he also died so that we could have health and prosperity in this life (Healing is included in the atonement)
    - “Sow a seed reap a harvest
    - ‘The Sinner’s Prayer’ began to be heavily used by televangelists such as Billy Graham
📖THIRD WAVE: SIGNS & WONDERS MOVEMENT
👉🏼Began in 1996 with C. PETER WAGNER when he announced to a large gathering of faith leaders that the ‘New Apostolic Age’ had begun, and coined the term ‘New Apostolic Reformation’ or NAR.
👉🏼 Considered a movement within the Charismatic Movement
👉🏼 Claimed that God has restored the offices of Apostles and Prophets
👉🏼 Churches within this movement claim to adhere to a ‘Five Fold Ministry’
👉🏼 Adhere to Dominion Theology / Seven Mountain Mandate which claims that Christian’s have the authority and duty to reclaim the world for God (These areas are specifically: religion, family, education, government, media, arts & entertainment, and business)
    👉🏼 CORE BELIEFS & TERMINOLOgy:
    - Emphasis placed in Signs & Wonders (healing, demonic deliverance, prophecy)
    - Supernatural revelation from God is available to all believers. They adhere to the rule that any new revelation from God cannot contradict what is already written in the Bible, but it can ‘supplement’ (see definition of Gnosticism)

Thank you so much for this. I left the charismatic movement 4yrs ago to be a bible believer. I grew up with it all my life non denomination and Pentecostal. it’s so dangerous and indoctrination with new age.
