    I'm 57 years old and for some younger people that was gross up about this; they should try it. It really works. When I grew up we didn't have ferterlizer, so that's what my parents and other people use for specific vegetables in the garden.

    No idea how much I appreciate the absolute frankness of your video. Using tact for those who might be squeamish and yet covering the material perfectly to get the information clearly across is of great use.
    PS I am known to complain how we leach the ground of nutrients then repay the plants by flushing our nutrients in the river. So thanks for the backing on that as well.

    I use the urine fertilizer on my veggie garden, about one whiz per gallon and water the plants with it about once a week during their growth stages. Also a great compost pile activator and even makes a great all natural weed killer if you don't dilute it. I don't see it as being as gross than the common use of cow manure in the garden (which I also don't think is a big deal) or worse being fertilized with raw sewage like they do in a lot of places whose veggies end up at the grocery store. Some of these nursery supply places are selling what is essentially an animal urine and seaweed mixture special fertilizer for big bucks.

    Just wondered about covering and protecting from oxygen. I read somewhere compost tea it good to aerate with air (an aquarium pump) for about 2-3 days rather than leaving it.The reason being it creates aerobic bacteria rather than anaroebic. Just wondered what you thought and whether this applied to fertilizers made from comfrey, weeds etc?

    • @maximilian333
      @maximilian333 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Graham Bull I agree that aerobic bacteria is what you want to end up with before applying. Anaerobic fermentation works quickly, but I prefer to perform a second phase where I create aerobic conditions for additional processing. A swampy anaerobic brew is what kills roots and rots plants. Not to mention human pathogens (disease-causing, dangerous bacteria as in botulism). You can even just stir it up daily to prevent the swampy, methane smells that arise if you simply let it sit and rot. This is why in the wild, "standing" water has always been considered dangerous, and "running" water safer to drink.

    it would be more accurate to say normal urine is sterile. the kidneys do process body's toxic nitrogenous waste product excreted as ammonia. I dont think anyone is afraid of touching urine because "its toxic." more likely that they think its not clean when in fact its sterile. thx for the tips :)

    I moved recently to a new place with weak hedges. I did some aeration of the soil and added some fertilizer, but I think the ones where my dog pees mostly, are much in better shape, with greener leafs!
    Similarly, in my old place, I used to dig a hole and burry all the organic waste. And how the hedges loved it!

    I remember my mom when we are still young, use to gather our urine in a big bucket every morning, we use bucket when we pee, then she will gather it and put a lot of water in it and water it to our pomelo. She is telling us, it is the best fertilizer. It is true because, our pomelo yield a lot of fruits and it is really very sweet. Funny to say, when i watch your video, I realized that it is really proven true. And many are using this as part of their organic fertilizer. Thank you in sharing

  • @markplott4820

    I have been using pee and rainwater to water my trees and plants.
    they are lush and well fed.
    pee is great, its no toxic and its sterile . do use pee if you are using antibiotics.
    as for tea ( plant food ), I divert some of my green yard waste to making plant fertilizer.
    I use a large plastic drum with a tap on it, I store my plant fertilizer in a separate bottle.
    I got two going, one almost finished and the other a new batch, I rotate them.
    I never empty the drums, when a batch is done, empty it, then fill it with new clippings.

    PEOPLE, YOU MUST DILUTE THE URINE! 20 PARTS WATER TO 1 PART URINE!!! Maybe you should stress this fact first, because I know the moment some people hear urine is high in N, they get so excited and immediately run outside and pee on their plants.

      Yeah, you can't do that, it does have to be dilluted. You could pee directly on your compost pile, but not on the plants. He did say that in the video, after all.

    • @josecarlosamador
      @josecarlosamador 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I "experimented" with urine a few months back. The "experiment" was to test the saying that human urine deters deer. An unexpected side effect was the grass grew wild where I "placed the urine" compared to areas I did nothing to. From this I deduced urine must have some nutrients and a lot of nitrogen. Didn't deter the deer.. but cayenne pepper sure did!

I was so frustrated with my pup but eventually got over it and accepted that it was his yard.... that was until my neighbor saw my frustration and told me that every time my dog peed on my trees to follow it with some water to dilute his urine, and the wonders I would see... she was right, it was a life plant saver tip.

    Thanks for the video, I enjoyed watching and subscribed! Could I get your opinion? I ferment grains for my chickens, Cracked corn, whole wheat and sunflower seeds. I use 3 buckets in rotation, 5gl each and each feeds for 2 days. So ea bucket gets a 4 day ferment. I have about a gal to a gal 1/2 of liquid every two days I could that I could pull off and use in the garden. In your opinion, what would be the microbial benefit to my garden? And should I dilute and foliar feed? Thanks in advance!

      yes, the problem is dogs tend to pee in the same place, right? So you are burning the plants - to much nitrogen.

      Manav Tomar just add 2 or 3 parts of water to one of urine.

      Manav Tomar That can happen if it is not diluted and is concentrated urine. If you dilute it, it works decently as a fertilizer.

      arno schockaert Your dog is a bitch right? Male dogs don't generally cause a problem because they like to spread it around (scent mark), where as bitches will just empty all their bladder in one spot. Male dogs don't put enough down in one spot to cause a problem (usually). If your dog isn't a bitch, he probably needs longer/more frequent walks so he is not having to dump all his urine in one spot in your garden.

    The contents of a septic tank makes great fertilizer too. it's hard to imagine harvesting what is essentially sewage to spread around your garden. Fish parts and egg shells make great fertilizer too.

    Hello Phil,
    Is any weed acceptable to use for the fermentation tea process. I ask because there is an abundance of a nuisance plant called Virginia Creeper that grows completely wild here in the summers. If I could find something useful for that, I'd be a very happy camper. Thanks.

    Let say I have collected 5 gallons of uran. Now I dulited it 1 cup to gallon of water, giving me 83 gallons of liquid gold fertilizer to put on my yard. How much (cups/ gallon) should I put on per square foot? And how often should I apply.

    I tried fermenting weeds. I only "brewed" them for 3 days. They smelled like feces! I'm assuming this is from the anaerobic process. Will it smell less if I brew longer? The smell persisted for a day in the garden and compost pile so I've learned to make opening and emptying a last thing of the day.Also, I'm thinking this is a great thing to do with your weeds that have gone to seed. First, to keep seeds out of the compost where they will later germinate. I'm assuming they are rendered incapable of germination from this process. Secondly because seeds tend to be nutrient dense and therefore produce a higher quality end product.Any thoughts?

    hi, my question isn't about this particular video but you seemed like somebody who may the answer. I'm pretty sure that's a compliment lol
    I'm in the UK and have a peach tree in my garden that has suffered really badly from leaf curl every year since I put it in, it's been I for about 5 years and I e only managed to have one peach survive so far! Do you know of any safe, preferably organic, cures for it? I got a couple of miniature trees last year and they both have it too!
    I have recently tried something I found on amazon which turned out to be a fungus eating type of nematode but the infection is pretty bad so I'm worried that even 5hat won't work because it says to only use it 3 times a year and I've already used it twice.
    Sorry for the length of this but I had a load of words left over that I hadn't used from my quota this month :)
    Thank you in advance :)

    So I am wondering about the weed fermentation. Do you pour this right on your plants, or do you dilute the fermented solution?
    Also, does it matter if the weeds are about to go to seed or not? Will they be completely dead after 2 weeks?
    Thanks
    Nick

    • @Smilinggardener
      @Smilinggardener  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dilute it with 10-20 parts water. Doesn't matter if the weeds are about to go to seed. Yes, they'll be dead after 2 weeks.

    Help my garden (which I made a video of on TH-cam) is sad. I think the soil is mostly clay.. With some sand since a pool was here with previous owner.
    Anyway. It's my first year and I am about to throw in the towel and just do raised beds next year.
    Is there hope for a garden that is just not thriving mid season? Would urine help at this point? Or anything else for that matter? (I could give you the link to my video if you want it or I guess you could click my name and find it... I don't have many videos)
