    Great video! If we think of this pump as just a simple hydraulic pump, which it is, that seal shouldn't leak with around 100psi of shop air, let alone 500psi of oil which is the minimum needed for the HPOP system to fire the injectors on this engine. Good Job sir!

    To anyone else that may refer to this video on their fix, the pump is supposed to leak a little around the shaft. Not saying this pump wasn't bad internally, but there's other ways to test the pump in the same manner. But I give props to "Barnyard" for being innovative and fixing his own truck. There's only one way to figure this stuff out, and that's exactly how to do it 👍

      Hey did you happen to notice if yours leaked out the back side? where the c-Clip holds the plate on? I have the same issue and did exactly what you did but mine is blowing some oil out the back. Is this normal? Doesn't seem right to me.

      @@timbowles6 correction its not a dump valve it's a swash seal. the dump valve is located on the bottom of the pump with a allen insert to remove it from the pump.

      Everyone that said it supposed to leakoil out the shaft seal is full of it the pressure reliefe returns the oil into the return line . There should be no external oil leaks on this pump. 50 Year turning wrenches .😊

    Dieselsite rep told me their pumps arent sealed and you can't use air to test it. They said you need to follow the Ford manual for 6.0 and use blocking plates and manual hydraulic pressurize. I had the same idea when I had air blowing out the front seal and into the oil cooler area. She said they flow test the pumps and they can run them at 5K psi all day.

    • @ericbox2456
      @ericbox2456 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dieselsite rep, whoever that is, didn't know what they were talking about. That leaking at the main seal is not acceptable. I had one like this and the truck still ran, but could only generate about 2000 PSI. The engine needs about 3800PSI at WOT so the engine would stumble at about half throttle. I had just replaced the HPOP, due to a no start hot situation, so I assumed the new HPOP was good, since it made my truck run. Chased my tail forever going through the turbo, injectors, fuel system, EGR, exhaust, etc. until I found this leak was causing the stumble. GRRRRRRRR

    • @royanguiano2610
      @royanguiano2610 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      this is absolute true , talked with a friend that builds the pumps at dieselsite and the front shaft seal is designed to leak an that air should not be used to test the pump because it isn't designed to be completey sealed. if it produces pressure it is fine.

    Very ingenious and simple testing. However, when you see that old style aluminum pump, that's pretty much how you know you need a pump. They were extremely failure prone. If I were replacing one, I would upgrade to the new style pump which takes a different cover.

    Just wanted to point out. That hole where the compressed air was applied is the oil pick-up side of the pump and would never see anything over about 75 PSI. supplied by the main engine oil pump. These are two stage pumps with check valves etc. The high pressure side should never be able to leak backwards to the low pressure side. As an internal pump they are designed to leak a little out of the front shaft for oil on gear etc. at 75 PSI.

    • @marvinfisher6388
      @marvinfisher6388 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree putting air on the pressure side is the way it should be done but when I did that with mine it leaked really bad out the front seal and it was a reconditioned pump right from O'Reilly's had a hot no start. It's impossible to pressure test the system leaking that bad. I won't buy another reconditioned pump they are junk.

  • @adrenalinenjunk
    @adrenalinenjunk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Just so everyone knows that pump uses a swash seal and it does not fully seal unless it’s spinning under engine rpm if you put pressure on it, you should see a couple drops of oil come out not a full blown leak like that that one was definitely bad. It’s a good way for a do it yourself test but just don’t freak out if it’s seeps a little bit.

  • @marvinfisher6388
    @marvinfisher6388 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought a reconditioned pump that was doing that from day one was told it was normal to leak some but it would be impossible to do a leak test and it didn't seem normal to me so I purchased a new pump and it doesn't do that however I still have a hot no start condition I've been scratching my head with forever. The seals look pretty good in the j-tube but it's possible oil could be bypassing because it seems they're pretty flat

    6.0 pumps aren't sealed. you need to follow Ford RAPS and testing the pressure produced by the pump. I applaud you for fixing your own pump but some air would certainly leak out the shaft because some oil is meant to leak. I'm not saying that your pump is good but this is not a definitive way to see if it is bad. Just for some perspective did you happen to do the same test with the new pump?

      Did you pressurize your system with air? If it’s leaking you’ll be able to hear it blowing and gurgling. I pressure tested the hpop and oil rails with stand pipes separately. That how I came up with the idea of how to test the hpop alone.

      Pressurizing with air is crucial, I think. If you have a leak preventing start up, you should hear it. Im replacing an HPOP tomorrow.. working on a 2005 6.0 & it has no air leaks, & a new IPR valve. Only seeing a slow build to 15 lbs pressure at ICP while cranking, FICM is fine.
