Why I won't be getting the Apple Credit Card...

  • Lets talk about the new 2019 Apple Credit Card…and why I won’t be getting one. Enjoy. Add me on Instagram: GPStephan

    Summed Up:
    Titanium Card without numbers on it
    1% cash back on all purchases
    2% cash back when used through Apple Pay
    3% cash back on apple products
    No fees or foreign transaction fees
    Enhanced analytics to track spending
    When it comes to the Apple Credit Card…it’s…in my opinion…a little disappointing, and I’m going to pass on it. Not that I think it won’t do well for Apple and their customer base, but specifically as a credit card…they missed so many amazing opportunities to make this a home-run card that everyone should get.
    In terms of usefulness and practicality, the credit card is really just OK. And I have a feeling, from Apple’s perspective, that’s what they wanted to go for all along. It’s a credit card that’s created for mass appeal, and that’s it. It’s not built to be the best credit card out there, it isn’t meant to offer crazy competitive rewards to compete with American Express or the Chase Sapphire…it’s JUST meant to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible, who loves Apple, and wants something somewhat unique - which is what they’ll get with a titanium laser etched card without numbers on it.
    And I wouldn’t be surprised when this soon becomes the new trend among credit cards, to issue blank cards without numbers on them. When it comes to something unique or special - this is really what I think this credit card has going for it. It’s a novelty, but at the same time, it’s kinda cool and gets attention. And it costs nothing, with 1-3% cash back, which is decent. So for that, I’ll give it to apple.
    Like I said, for MOST people, this card will be perfect for them - Apple isn’t going after the people who really maximize rewards, and try to squeeze the most value from everything they do.
    Apple seems like they were aiming to make something that’s probably a little better than what the AVERAGE person is currently getting with their random crappy credit cards, and that’s their market - and arguably, THAT market is much bigger to go after than the people like me and most of you watching who just want crazy good benefits and rewards, and just want the best of the best.
    So in terms of market share, I have no doubt Apple will be successful with these cards, and many people will get it ONLY because it’s apple, only because it’s metal, and only because it’s got a “trend” factor to it.
    With that said, I DO think Apple missed a huge opportunity to offer SOME type of sign-up bonus with this card to attract an even larger audience.
    THIS was their golden opportunity to get people into a frenzy over getting this card who wouldn’t have ordinarily applied. If they want a TON of new customers, just offer a few hundred dollars back on your first $2000 spent. If they had done that, I would’ve gone for it - that way I can justify having a hard inquiry on my credit report.
    So would I recommend this card for anyone watching?
    Yes. It’s a no fee card, zero transaction fees, 1-3% cash back, and it’s titanium without numbers on it. To me, this card isn’t bad - I have nothing against it, and it’s absolutely BETTER than most of the other generic crap out there.
    However, there are many BETTER credit cards than this - like the Citi Double Cash Rewards Card - that give you a much more broad 2% cash back, without an annual fee, while also offering extended warranty protection. Or, the Discover Cash Back which offers 5% cash back on revolving categories.
    So if your goal is maximizing rewards and going for the best credit card possible, the apple card isn’t it. They missed the mark on that one.
    However, if your goal is just getting a basic, no fee card that you can enjoy and use - and you don’t care about getting the highest value all the time - then it’s good. And this is definitely the biggest demographic out there, who apple plans to market to. They understand the average audience an they’re making a mass market card for most people.

      I know this is a year old, but I need humans to understand the difference between extending the manufacturers warranty and getting Apple care! I work in retail (Best Buy) and an extended warranty doesn’t cover everything that a paid for warranty covers. Apple care covers cracks and damage! Regular warranties do not. They only cover if the device stops working! So it pays to get the Apple care and not an extended warranty. Besides Apple care on any MacBook is 3 years.

      Rocky while I currently have an iPhone 11, they’re in no way superior. Android and iOS both have their pros and cons. To list a few, iPhones lack fast charge technology and Apple still refuses to switch their dated lightning cable to a modern usb-c cable.

    • @TheScaith
      @TheScaith 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Rocky The only thing I would argue Apple is superior with are notebooks for work. The phones are simply in so many ways disappointing, like coming with a trash charger, offering no SD card slots and ridiculously small storage, low resolution screens with big ugly notches, small batteries and low ram, all the while being priced far above the phones they actually compete with. Sure, the processor is the best on the market right now, but who cares. This is a phone - not a gaming PC. I'm not going to sacrifice anything to make it run some mobile game 7 fps faster. Not to mention high repair fees. While this is opinion based I also prefer Android over IOS, I want to customize my device to however I like. While not having a universal design that goes across all apps and lacking the simplicity of IOS at some parts, Android just feels more free.

    • @TheScaith
      @TheScaith 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Rocky That's a totally reasonable argument, of course. IOS has a sleek design that goes across all apps and that's nice. I, personally, just find it way more important to be able to customize it to my liking. I can't say anything about tablets, because I have no idea. I heard good things about the Samsung tablets, but I really can't judge. There's also the thing that if you're already in the hole that is Apple's ecosystem, you're in many cases better off going for more Apple products, since they at least work well together. I was mostly thinking of Iphones and Macs, Macbooks are probably the best Notebooks for working on the go (If you don't care about money) and Ipads may also have their good points. I just found your original comment to be unreasonable, I'm annoyed by all the people that never had used an Android phone, except that one time they got a really cheap one and are complaining how much worse it is than a newer Iphone for five times the price, or not even realizing that Android is just an OS that's used by lots of competetive phonebrands and that Apple is only one of them. Well, the most important thing is that you are happy with what you have.

    At 3:45, I think you may be incorrect . If the store has" tap", it accepts apple pay which is pretty well everywhere. If you ask the clerk beforehand "do you take Apple pay?" most will say no because they don't understand what apple pay is or how it works.

    • @RayPossibleGT

      True that there are many places that take Apple Pay but there are also many that don’t. One of the biggest big box stores, Walmart, still doesn’t have Apple Pay at their registers as of August 2021! Like Walmart, many places still don’t have Apple Pay.

    • @chrisnotap
      @chrisnotap 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@areebebrahim39 Yes. To be clear.....if your iphone accepts you entering the card info into your iphone wallet, apple pay will then work at any machine with tap. If your iphone does not accept entering the info into your iphone wallet, then no, apple pay will not work. A good example for me at the moment is Costco here in Canada. If I try to enter the card info into my apple wallet on my iphone, it does not accept it, therefore it will not work. I still have to physically use the card to tap it. Companies pay a percentage to apple for the simplicity and ease of using apple pay. Hope I've explained that ok.

All theses so called better phones only advertise some bigger numbers that don’t really amount to that much in actual real world usage. You are the same type who buys cheap telescopes that advertise “500x ZOOM!” and think “we’ll that expensive telescope from Orion only has 100x zoom. Clearly the cheaper is super technology”. Of course you aren’t actually looking at the numbers that actually matter like how much light it can take in. Zoom means nothing if it doesn’t have anything t zoom on due to lack of light.

      While Apple is usually never on the bleeding edge of technology (or finance in this case), you have to admit that when they do come out they tend to be very slick and already have 99% of the issues ironed out. For example, they have done facial recognition (something many other phones have already done) much better than any competition out there. Even touch screen phones in general were already available before the first iPhone came out, but that first iPhone took the touch screen idea and made it better. That's what I think Apple does when its all said and done, and as an Android and Windows user I have to admit that Apple makes sure that it doesn't put out half baked products. However, I can't really speak on this Apple Card since I don't really know enough about this in general.

    The only real cost for having this card is a 5/24 slot. Otherwise, it’s good to have it in the credit card arsenal regardless of how much or how little you spend.
    Not everyone is in a position to meet minimum spends on high AF cards. A no annual fee card with no foreign transaction fees is super underrated and not seen enough in the market. It’s not the best with savvy points players but I like having solid no-fee cards for credit purposes just in case travel rewards become less of a priority in the future.

      You can pay off Credit cards straight after purchase. Treat it like a debit card, paying off the balance as they come, and you won't have to pay interest, as well as getting cash back.
      Also, if you want to qualify for a car loan/ mortgage, you'll want to start building credit.

      @db4a 5 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Actually, it will be much easier to get an Apple Card. Since this is a no fees at all card, the more people that can get an Apple Card is how Apple will make their money. Most people won’t pay off their credit card in full and Apple will generate much revenue from all the interest charges. So while Samsung is playing around with foldable phones, Apple will be making serious money with their new credit card. And this is just the beginning.

Also you need to send the product away to be serviced as opposed to taking it to the Genius Bar. Fell victim to this with my iPad Pro when the screen cracked. With Apple it would be serviced same day on apple care. On credit card I waited a week for the repair and had to pay £50 fee

      I’ve actually had AppleCare on nearly all of the Apple devices I’ve owned. I’m well aware that in addition to the extension of warranty, depending on the device, you can have it replaced for free or some amount less than the full retail value. On my first MacBook Pro, AppleCare really came in handy as the device needed repair outside of the first year (the warranty I would’ve had without AppleCare). And I’m very happy that the Apple Store will take care of repairs/replacements for you.
      Although AppleCare and credit card extended warranty are not the same thing, it seems (based on my reading) that you can have one after the other. Have AppleCare for 3 years (that encompasses the 1st year that you already get) for a MacBook Pro, then take advantage of the extended warranty after that. If you paid with Citi or Amex, you would get the 2-year extended warranty. So you would have a total of 5 years of warranty coverage (although the first 3 are with Apple Care).

      @@njsfer - There's a charge with Applecare+ which is the extended coverage option Apple offers within 60 days of purchasing a new device. It's a fraction of what you'd pay to repair your phone without it, and you're only covered for 2 instances of accidental damage. Once you've used it 2 times for damage, you still have the extended warranty but damage is assessed the full out of warranty repair price.
