  • What happens when China, one of the world’s most fiercely competitive manufacturing countries, goes up against Tesla, an American super-company devoted to revolutionising the way we think about personal transportation?
    While the Chinese government is renowned for imposing strict import regulations on other countries and companies, its deal with Tesla hits just that little bit more different.

      @@ajaygoud142 I've had a 09 Chevy colbolt, 04 Oldsmobile bravada and a 2018 Chevy Cruze.
      Of those I will say that my bravada was awesome it just got like 8 miles to gallon but I loved that car.
      Other cars I'm familiar with is Toyota Camrys
      I've almost logged 50,000 miles on now, I've had no issues, full self-driving it's amazing especially on long drives, my total cost of charging (at a supercharger) over this period of time is less the $80 so less then a oil change (from the dealership $89/$48 from my local shop)
      Only maintenance is tires and tire rotation so far. I'm in the north and the car handles the cold and snow great.
      It's a amazing daily driver and has gotten better threw the updates over time
      In short the model 3 is fantastic and I recommend it to everyone and do what I can to let people test drive it, everyone walks away with a smile

    Giga-factory Shanghai has been such an incredible success story. Even during the pandemic it was amazing watching the factory continued to expand day after day in real time. Companies like Tesla and SpaceX are what really give us hope for the future, as we can see them moving seemingly faster than anything else out there. They definitely need to apply what works in China’s Giga-factory to other ones. Especially in Berlin with the site there are still well under construction.

    Gigafactories 3 and 5 (Texas) make for an interesting comparison: #3 being built out incrementally in three phases then ramping products following Fremont; vs #5 being built out fully in one phase and set to ramp new products (Roadrunner 4680s in structural packs with castings replacing welded frame, CyberTruck). Prior to Tesla's late 2020 capital raises, an incremental build-out was planned for #5.

      Mining, including oil drilling seems to be the similar or better for electric cars. We should keep an eye on it, though. In contrast to gas/petrol cars, batteries are useful after the electric car is pensioned off. Also battery cars can last much longer: Tesla is aiming for 1,000,000 miles. You can reuse and recycle the batteries, you can't recycle the gas. And burning stuff is destroying our climate.

JD Power ranked them as the worst in the country out of all 32 automakers that sell in the U.S. in terms of quality. They had more quality issues per 100 vehicles sold than anyone else and it wasn’t even close. Consumer Reports redacted their endorsements of the Model 3 and Model S because of the astronomical number of quality issues. All of that in spite of the fact that electric vehicles contain about 33% less parts and therefore theoretically have a huge advantage in terms of the odds of experiencing quality issues. Oops. Lean manufacturing is nothing to do with parts arriving at the right time - that is Just in TIme inventory management - 'Lean' means you can retool your machines for a batch size of one very quickly - if you sell only one pink Tesla you still make a profit on it because the cost to retool the paint line is very low. This typically means much lower tech tools - at least it did at Toyota.

    • @TheBirdRocker
      @TheBirdRocker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's a gross oversimplification of Lean. Lean is a comprehensive methodology which focuses on reducing waste in a system (overproduction, transportation, delays, inventory, etc.). Just-in-time is a prominent tool used to accomplish this, by striving for continuous flow (or one-piece flow) to minimize non-value added time through the process. Lean certainly has to do with parts arriving on time... it just also encompasses a plethora of other factors that all are aimed at accomplishing the same goal: no variation and no waste.

    • @ChatGPT1111
