I can honestly say I did not expect to watch a guy clean his Fishtank and enjoy it as much as I did… Goes to show that with the right music and good camera quality even taken a shit would be epic and enjoyable to watch. 👍
I think many high tech led lights that sit close to the aquarium and are high powered are almost always way too intense at 100%. You should always start off at around 50% intensity and gradually increase that number until you start seeing algae. At that point you want to wind it back one notch.
It’s better to get some cheap PAR meter or rent a decent one and do some measurements, before deciding if you have too much or too little light. But, yes, the safer approach is to start dimmer and then slowly increase day by day, observing the changes. I would not reduce the photo period though. All tropical plants and corals adapted to have ~11 hours of light per day. They can’t utilize products of photosynthesis fast enough if you give them very bright light for a short period. Better to distribute that energy more uniform in time for a longer period.
It's so interesting seeing this perspective for me. How an aquascaper has a very contrasting idea of algae with me, a microbiology undergrad student cultivating marine algae for my thesis. One of my friend even did use peroxide (H2O2) too, but on purpose to stress out the algae just enough to not die, but still be able to produce higher metabolic products.
FIRST again! ALGAE It’s an everlasting question how to get rid of them. Since every aquarium is different there is no exact answer. It can have thousand causes but it’s sure it indicates a problem in your tank. In the beginning I was messing a lot with the algae and to be honest with you it can still be a problem. I neglected this tank recently I wasn’t looking after it. I was suffering from algae for a longer while and even this video haven’t been about to be made, because I wanted to take it apart. But eventually I figured out how to give you some useful tips based o what happened. I’m hundred percent sure this video won’t solve all of your problems with algae but I hope you will find some useful tips and gather some motivation for the fight. Don’t need to be afraid of algae and you shouldn’t be pissed too. Just assume it as a challenge. So good luck guys, algae can not win!
I just sat down after removing some hardscape and boiling it to remove BBA that was on there. Turned it green - hoping it'll be eaten off by my amanos soon. Great video!
Nice video once again, and yes algae is a Nightmare for all of us. I have destroyed tank last month due to algae, as it was nano tank and wasn't being heavily planted . I considered Destroyed and resetting it again
In the next year THECINESCAPER is gonna be the most subscribed youtube channel about tanks and stuff! Remember me! Congratulations on your victory by the way bro..
Wow if i knew such a movie is waiting for me i do get a popcorn :) :) Great story and captures! We really not in love with H2O2 caused more trouble than we win with it, but glad it worked out for you. Congrat to the new video! :)
Thanks guys, I’m glad you like it. I’m not happy either I had to use h2o2 but I couldn’t manage to solve it another way. Luckily I’ve experienced no bad side.
This video is GREAT ! Through the years of focusing on planted aquariums, i've had almost every algae one can get.....and even some unknows. With all the ups and downs i've come to the conclusion.... if you have a good bacterial set-up, chances are you'll have some kind of Algae. i don't use Co2, and i've stopped using the Excel-dee-hyde stuff, (not enough info on saftey.) One thing i've noticed is that once the plants have acclimated and are happily growing, the battle to eradicate any infestation is a whole lot easier. My main weapon has been H2O2 or for removable plants or cuttings, a mild chlorinated bath,(for the difficult agae.) Has anyone tried a tank made entirely of those lab grown sterile plants ? ...Thank's for posting this !
Damn, you really go all out with the editing and filming this time! And that choice of music, absolute epicness. Bravo for winning against that aggressive algae, it really took control of the entire tank but you managed to get it sparkling again. (and I'm quite amazed how the plants actually survived that harsh of a H2O2 treatment!)
PERFECT VIDEO showcasing your own experience! I have similar problem as many others and reducing the light, cutting the ferts dosage in half has a huge affect. Thanks for sharing the experience!
Great masterpiece of a movie ..someone who shows algae and not alone the start..great music ..i would like to now the creator...look forward to next movie...thanks 👍👍
This movie had me hooked from the start! It has everything, the epic highs and lows of the story combined with a fabulous score and cinematography. I gave it 5 out of 5 youtubes! a must see!
Top quality, informative and entertaining at top level as always! Saw this video was posted and top spot on Reddit aqua ape this morning. You’re popularity just took an uptick
Great video!! Loved the pacing and music was used to perfection enhancing your story brilliantly! Great instruction too! You are a talented videographer!
Your editing and choice of music was superb. It was so in sync with everything💚. Sorry about your algae issue though but glad you defeated it. Hope it doesn't come back. By the way, I was the one over on IG that said, "That would drive me nuts.". Now that I saw your video it would have drove me insane😁😯
Wow! That was a VERY different video from you. Even the soundtrack is completely 'off cinescaper'... But then, so is the issue at hand! Nice to know that the 'perfect' aquascapers also struggle with the same problems as 'us common mortals'... Thanks for sharing your problems and your solutions.
Hi. Greetings from Argentina. I have two questions, how many gallons does the tank have? You said that you poured 50 ml 33%H2O2 in the tank. Is that percentage of H2O2 right? Thank you very much
Really nice story. Loved every bit of it. Can i ask a behind the scenes of the filmaking. how do you get rid of reflections? how do you set the aquarium for filming? would love to watch a behind the scenes video. keep them coming. love your work.
Let me guess you used tropica soil? I have the same filter too, and terrible algae issues. Maybe it’s in the bio media that it ships with? But my guess is tropica, because i used them in a completely new tub setup and it caused the same algae there too.
EPIC! This is fantastic! I love the story you tell and the drama you create with this video. And, I’m really pleased your hard work paid off in the end! Just one question though-if you keep you filter running during this whole process, does such high doses of H2O2 not effect the bacteria in it? Did you leave if off at any point? Cheers, mate! 👍🏼💚
Thanks! It effects the bacteria of course, but not as much as people think. It is because the bacteria in the filter forms a media called biofilm, that makes bacteria more hardy then if they was separately. If you switch off your filter, -in my opinion- is a bigger risk, because lack of oxigen kill many bacteria for sure. I dont know which thing kills more ( H2O2 vs. lack of oxigen), but in my experience with H2O2, maximum side effect was a little opalescent for couple days, and some sensivite plants was hurted a bit, nothing else. Shrimps, and some fish species can be sensivite too.
you inspire me! think i have watched every single video you made. All the way in brazil, I feel inspired to one day have a tank just a little close to what yours are!

Beautiful video. But how come you dont use amano shrimp and a sae? They are killers for that kind of algae. I added the fish in moment i saw it, the next day the algae is all gone. Now, I only get green spot on the glass, but the hair algae is an endangered species in my tank.
great video man....I have a question, noting that the height of that tank is so low, could not be the problem the amount of substratum used....normally in a highest tank you could have problems if you dont have enough CO2 to burst the plants to consume all the nutrients....In a tank like this you will need maybe even more CO2 to consume all that nutrients stored in the substratum
Thanks! You are right, the substrate contains nutrients, but not so much, since it's Amazonia Light, that means it has reduced nutrient amount. Also the highest nutrient stock is in the water, because I pour fertilizers daily.
Awesome video!! In my experience green hair algae occure due to a simple cause!! ...the lack of nitrogen!!! Plant grow is superb and all of a sudden the growth stop and something about 10 days after, the hair algae explodes! Can anyone admit?
Molnar, great video, as always! I love the color in this tank! I was wondering how much credit goes to your ONF light. How does it compare to a Chihiros?
Thanks! You can find ONF lights price on the www.onf.com.tw official site. ONF light is amazing but much more expensive than chihiros. Btw chihiros is a good budget light!
I didn’t switch off the filter. Shrimps, and some fish species can be sensivite too.
If you have time, can you share what lumens is the output, how many hours it was on, what volume is the tank? Thanks in advance. Alge probably will come back. I had similar issue when i forgot lights on gor couple of weeks:)
I prefer you to switch ada amazonia for tropica soil powder because ada is tooo much filled with nutrients which leads to this....or you can mix 25 percent ada with 75 percent tropica ....ive used the same method and it works like a charm.....
Nice Video, for me I was really suffering with green ALGAE and BB as well, I started using Seachem flourish Excel daily and that helped me to get ride of the BB but not the green algae, anyway I started bulding a new Aquarium and I needed the CO2 System and the light there I removed it from the old aquarium for two days no lights no CO2 after two days I got new lights so I took the CO2 and lights back to old aquarium which has algae I was shocked when I turned on the lights no algae at all and the water become clear crystal!! I hope this can help anyone facing the same issue
I'm impressed! Great video, content and music! Btw, I know that 4 days left to Nemzeti ünnep, but as a Pole I would like to say: Isten áldd meg a magyart!
Nice video. Yes reactive oxygen species like ozone and hydrogen peroxide kill smaller organisms. It likely did harm your plants too, but their larger and more complex structure allows them to recover rather than die. H2O2 is a natural byproduct of cellular respiration, and thus most complex organisms have enzymes to deal with it's presence. The smaller the organism, the easier it is to overwhelm and kill. This was an interesting example. Thanks for sharing it
If you have a planted tank and micro algae problem, why would you keep dosing fertilized and CO2 at all? Those would be first things I would reduce even before reducing lighting. Also, if you add several shrimp that start breeding, at certain amount of population they will consume micro algae faster than it can grow. I have a small planted shrimp tank for many years and all surfaces there are absolutely clean from micro algae. Plants doing well without fertilizers and CO2, they just don’t grow that fast and I don’t need them to.
Wouldn't it be possible to just drain the entire aquarium and run it emersed for a while since all the plants could handle it but the algae can't? I'm not sure if this is a viable idea but it just came to my mind while watching this What's your opinion on this?
great video as always. I recently came through this in a 5gal (18L?) just a betta and some plants. nothing nearly as sophisticated as yours. However, the tank sits in a south facing window and gets direct sunlight (I know, bad idea) 3 days ago I bough 9 amano shrimps and now the monstrosity that was is no more, and they're still looking for more to eat. Even if your chemistry gets out of wack, those little guys are troopers. The tank still sits in the window, and they've all but eradicated any hint of algae anywhere.
My plant fertilizer, the TÄP is here! For this launch I offer you a SPECIAL LAUNCH DEAL:

I tried out 50% light intense, but didn't help me, as I wrote it in the video. I never use this lamp at 100% on this tank.
You can find calculators online for the amount of light needed. You can also use a app to see the amount of light you have in the tank
It’s better to get some cheap PAR meter or rent a decent one and do some measurements, before deciding if you have too much or too little light. But, yes, the safer approach is to start dimmer and then slowly increase day by day, observing the changes. I would not reduce the photo period though. For 60×30×30cm tank what would you recomend 2 20watt t5 or 3 20watt t5
Super results!
Was filter running while you were applying h2o2? (Was there any flow?)
I can see you did not spot treat.
If m not mistake h2o2 also affects monte carlo, along with moss, doesn't it?
Wow nice cinematic again! This style is really good and educational also.

great video man....I have a question, noting that the height of that tank is so low, could not be the problem the amount of substratum used....normally in a highest tank you could have problems if you dont have enough CO2 to burst the plants to consume all the nutrients....In a tank like this you will need maybe even more CO2 to consume all that nutrients stored in the substratum
Thanks! You are right, the substrate contains nutrients, but not so much, since it's Amazonia Light, that means it has reduced nutrient amount. Also the highest nutrient stock is in the water, because I pour fertilizers daily.
Will this work on black algae and will it affect my fish? I don’t a spare tank big enough for all of them.
Superb editing. You sir deserve way more subs for such a quality and informative video 😍😍😍
Wow... I culd watch this more often than anime... And i just subscribed!
welcome! ;)
Do you keep your filter running, while putting the H2O2 in?
Love the drama in this edit. Your bloody good at your day job ;)
Thanks! 🤓
That was better than going to the movies!!!
Way cool vid mate, love the dramatic storyline and music, victory!🤘
Thanks!
What an epic vid but one question : what happen to the shrimps ?
I toke out the livestock before add overdosed H2O2
This video looks like a trailer. Love it !
Awesome video!! In my experience green hair algae occure due to a simple cause!! ...the lack of nitrogen!!! Plant grow is superb and all of a sudden the growth stop and something about 10 days after, the hair algae explodes! Can anyone admit?
Thank you for your videos, I have learned a lot.
I translated the video annotations for my friends.
They don't understand English
So I translated into Chinese so they can understand how to break down algae

02:58 H2O2(更多信息在說明中)

07:11 HYDOR PROF 250 CANISTER
07:35 ONF FLAT ONE
TROPICA SPECIALIZED FERTILIZER
Thank you! :)
Hey cinescaper,im worried about the bacteria colony in the external filter.Did you keep the external filter while dosing H2O2? Thanks
I didn’t switch off the filter.
TheCineScaper thanks,appreciate it👍
I never knew that cleaning an aquarium could be so epic
Thanks for the encouragement. Fighting the same enemy now. 💪💪💪
Good luck mate!
What is the amount of h2o2 in per liter of water
If you have time, can you share what lumens is the output, how many hours it was on, what volume is the tank? Thanks in advance. Alge probably will come back. I had similar issue when i forgot lights on gor couple of weeks:)
4500 lumen in 100% intensity. I use in daily 6hours with 40% intensity
I prefer you to switch ada amazonia for tropica soil powder because ada is tooo much filled with nutrients which leads to this....or you can mix 25 percent ada with 75 percent tropica ....ive used the same method and it works like a charm.....
the edition of video is amazing , and thank you very much for the knowledge. I think that will help me in the future ^^
did you pour 50ml of 3% H2O2 or 50ml of 33% H2O2?
Same Question
exactly 50mm of 35%
Ah, I love a story with a happy ending!
Are all of those bubbles the plants pearling? godaym
This is an impressive battle! Thanks for the great video!
felt like I just watched a long hard battle with titans LOL.
Great job! It was sooo goood
Nice Video,
for me I was really suffering with green ALGAE and BB as well,
I started using Seachem flourish Excel daily and that helped me to get ride of the BB but not the green algae,
anyway I started bulding a new Aquarium and I needed the CO2 System and the light there
I removed it from the old aquarium for two days
no lights no CO2
after two days I got new lights so I took the CO2 and lights back to old aquarium which has algae
I was shocked when I turned on the lights
no algae at all and the water become clear crystal!!
I hope this can help anyone facing the same issue
Thanks for the good tips!
So if I have a 90L tank, I need to use 90ml?
Loveee the cinematography!
Such epicness. Amazing victory
I'm impressed! Great video, content and music! Btw, I know that 4 days left to Nemzeti ünnep, but as a Pole I would like to say: Isten áldd meg a magyart!
Köszönöm szépen! ;)
Legend never surrender!
Always love your vid btw
Thanks! 🤩
Amazing comeback, gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing it
Thanks a lot for the tips at the end. It answered a lot of questions :)
I'm not sure if this is a viable idea but it just came to my mind while watching this
What's your opinion on this?
Yes, that would kill the algae, but not the spores. And If the problem with the aquarium stays, the algae will come back.
@@TheCineScaper ok that makes sense haven't thought about that
Great video by the way :)
I got goosebumps,, thanks..
TheCineMaScaper
Do you using h2o2 in the water or spot dosing the algae?
I’ m just pour it to the aquarium. You can use directly on alge.
You won because of your hard work 🖒🖒🤗😀😀
great video as always.
Amano is a beast but hard to make it multiply :(
@@fredrikmudas this is my first round of amanos, I'm going to give it a shot it one ends up having eggs.
Thanks for the tip!
@@TheCineScaper anytime bud. keep up the good work

Sooper I loved it both videography and tank😍😍😍😍😍
